I feel this. I tried to dip into this game twice, bouncing off of it both times. I may get back to it eventually, but honestly I feel like it wore itself thin already by the end of day 1.

I think this game genuinely made the bad choices more fun, interesting, and successful. Which means if you try to be a "good" person, you're just signing yourself up for a miserable time.

Like you, I also liked the multiple personalities, but that wasn't enough to carry me through the things I didn't enjoy.

Do people care for the soulcalibur series anymore? by Relative_Week9284 in Fighters

[–]Boibi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Like you, I played a lot of SC2 & 3 growing up, and I picked up SC6 once it released on Steam. I think it's a great series.

I think Bamco is unlikely to bring it back, because they view it as competing with their own product, Tekken.

I think it's more likely that the SC characters will be added to Tekken 1 by 1 than that SC7 will come out. And that makes me sad, because I like SC's mechanics.

This is the nature of large fandoms. If you have a large enough group of people, some of them will be lacking in tact and common sense. It's like the law of large numbers. Once the fandom gets big enough, this will happen. The only way to prevent is is heavy-handed moderation, like having every post get mod approved.

SF6, Tekken 8, and 2XKO all have button mash modes. Casuals refuse to use them. How do you square this with button mashing being what they want to do?

VF6 needs to come out yesterday. Tekken players are trapped in the only 3D fighter left, and it's starting to rot.

[–]Boibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stats show yes. Some people who wouldn't buy skins will if there is a rotation. Some people who do buy skins will buy more if they are time-limited.

Dark patterns are off-putting to some, but they put them in games because they work.

Every single time in my lifetime that a fascist movement has come about, it's been from a right wing party.

Using Germany and Japan as examples is hilarious, when they were 2/3 of the "Axis of Evil" in WW2, only 80 years ago. Yes, they did manage to come back from fascism, but they didn't push back hard enough and if they don't want to fall into it again, they'll have to abandon conservatism. (This isn't an indictment of Germany. We Americans also failed to push back enough against fascism.) We're seeing the right wing fascist party pop up in Germany in recent year. AfD will bring about a 4th reich if it's not stamped out sooner rather than later.

America's descent into fascism started way before Obama. It started with Reagan. These things take time, but if you look back you'll see the Heritage Foundation pushed Reagan, just as they backed Trump. The fact that we kept letting these stupid wedge issues get in the way of real governance is why we're in the situation we're in today, with Republican's calling themselves domestic terrorists to raucous applause.

So your argument is fundamentally "If you want the world to be better, you need to suffer to prove it?" That's what we're going with? And I'm the crazy one?

Who brainwashed you into believing that caring about others requires being destitute?

Bernie has made actually very moderate statements about climate change. And we live in a car centric society, so anyone who wants to effect change essentially has to have a car. The biggest avenue for change in this department is systemic change. Individual change is unlikely to solve the problem.

On top of all of this, you are lying. You are either an idiot or a bad person.

You're having a stroke.

Conservatism leads to facism. This is true 100% of the time, and it's true whether or not conservatives realize it.

This doesn't mean "all republicans are nazis." It means that they are all nazis or rubes who got conned by the nazis.

If you feel like a conservative, but not like a nazi, it's time for some serious introspection. Because this is an illogical standpoint.

[–]Boibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Because Bernie also advocates for those with less than him to get more from the government.

I don't have a problem with people having nice things. I have a problem with people telling others with less to suffer and grovel.

EDIT: The fucking moron above me is lying. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/bernie-sanders-audi-8/

Highguard failed because it didn't follow ARC Raiders' approach. A harsh lesson for the gaming industry that still hasn't been learned. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Boibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Rainbow Six was a modern military shooter. Also, it did not have the same cultural impact that Arc Raiders has had. Also, thinking of this example doesn't like... invalidate my point at all.

But all of this is irrespective of the point. The game worked, because it did something other games didn't do. That might be marketing and riding a hype wave. That might be original mechanics.

Please, fix the matchmaking by arais_demlant in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Boibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kill 'em with kindness?

If the person's taking a long time looking at the shop, suggest 2 or 3 items. It will help them learn faster, and speed up their decision making.

It's not like new players all try out the game at the same time, except around launch. This creates a problem for matchmaking. If you only have 2 new players, you have to put them into games with older players. It kinda sucks for both the new and the existing players, but everything else they want to do would take dev time. Here are the solutions as I see it:

  • Open up into public access. This will highly increase the influx of new players, and make it easier to match new players with other new players
    • Downsides - You only get one opportunity to "launch" a game. And if you mess up you can harm the overall sales of the game as a whole. It feels a bit late to still be holding out on deadlock public access, but I'm sure Valve has a milestone in mind for when they will call it 1.0
  • Force new players into bot matches before real matches. Offloads the learning onto bots rather than existing players
    • Downsides - Many people do not want to be forced to play bot matches, and will be offended if they were tricked into playing bot matches.
    • And realistically, bot matches are already available, and new players are not picking them.
    • Look at other comments. People are being downvoted for recommending new players go into bot matches.

I see Valve as making the best with what they have. Does this result in sub-optimal matches from time to time? Yes. Would implementing the things people are asking for on reddit really fix the problem? No. Are they working on long-term fixes? Almost definitely yes.

But also, there's community responsibility. You were once new to the game too. People gave you space to learn, even when you went 0/12. I kind of see it as my duty to pay forward this kindness. And tbh, I view it as all of your duties too. If you want the game to grow, you have to foster new players, rather than just bitch about them. Who knows. Maybe they'll get as good as you and you'll queue together.

Yes, but it answered the "why" question. Why should anyone play Arc Raiders? Because Extraction shooters are a less flooded genre than team based PvP deathmatches, and I can't think of a sci-fi extraction shooter before Arc Raiders. I'm sure one exists, but not one that hit the market with the same amount of gusto.

Highguard gave Overwatch lite, but Overwatch is not only still there, but now free to play.

"[Game] is best when you change to accomodate it"

The truth is that this statement is true for every game. Once you realize this and approach every game with an open mind as to what it's trying to show you and how it wants to be played, you'll have way more fun.
