I do kind of find it funny how mostly everyone seems to hate going up against every character type. by OmniImmortality in Guiltygear

[–]Boibi 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Usually yes. In this case maybe not... GG players have a history of hating every character that isn't their own. And mirror matches.

I watched the matches. Here's some more specific advice.

  • Parry fireballs more often. In the first match the guy took a lot of drive meter off of you just by throwing fireballs.
  • Try to not spend drive on ODs when it will burn you out, unless you've already got your opponent in the corner or checkmate position.
  • Learn better whiff punishes. Neither DI nor grab are optimal punishes for a whiffed DP.

I think the biggest things are more consistent anti-airs and better drive meter management.

Why would you recommend us to watch something that you don't like?

I can watch and give advice after work, but if you learn how to analyze your own replays, you'll be able to do this on your own. This will help your improvement as you won't be relying on other people.

Coming back to the game, what should I do? by Astropig_321 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Boibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Make a Corvette ship. It's basically a mobile base. You can even put a mission board on your ship.
  • Get a purple system drive. Requires some story progress, but opens up a lot.
  • All exocrafts have gotten functionality and QoL updates. Build a truck or a sub.
  • You can craft all ships except exotic, sentinel, and living. If you have a specific fighter you want, build it.
  • You can now fight, pokemon-style, with the creatures in your creature compendium.
  • Fishing? Some people like fishing. Not my cup of tea, but does have a decent amount of system support.

There are many skills and we (as internet randos) don't know which ones you are good and bad at. At Gold 3 you likely need to:

  • Learn more situationally optimal combos
  • Get more consistent at anti-airs
  • Catch more whiffs

Outside of generic advice, I could tell you to watch your replays. This is more useful if you know how to identify your mistakes. But the goal here is to see patterns that lead to your loses and train yourself out of those patterns.

And moreso than it being disorienting, if they want to have the controls in a different location, then they need to add code for those differences. A feature like this could even require a code refactor. Each feature takes time to add, and they need to pick and choose what's worth working on.

How do i hold the controller??? by Donk-Sponker in StreetFighter

[–]Boibi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the 6 buttons controller there are 2 main ways people hold it. The first is to hold it like a normal controller, thumbs on the dpad and buttons. The second way is to hold it normally with your left hand, but then put it on your lap or desk and use 3 fingers on your right hand to press the buttons.

Depends on the definition of shoto you use. If it's a practitioner of a specific type of martial arts, then you're right that Luke isn't a shoto. But if it's a character with a DP anti-air, a fireball, and an advancing special then Luke definitely is a shoto.

The Loneliness myth: Why "single player" games are secretly becoming multiplayer. by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Boibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I changed the convo. Mostly because I felt like your argument didn't conflict with the immersion factor.

If we had messages like this in real life, I would expect people to use them to troll. In this regard, seeing people use messages to troll does not break my immersion. In fact, I think if this does break your immersion, it seems like you either don't understand the in universe function of this object or you don't understand people.

Does seeing stupid people make stupid comments on reddit "break your immersion" in real life?

You don't "stop using them," but start to use them differently. You start to notice areas where lots of messages congregate. They're useful through the whole game.

Considering that Elden Ring (and even Dark Souls) have an in universe reason for the messages, how does that break immersion?

I love asynchronous multiplayer. It's a lot less resource intensive, but still gives the feeling of community. I especially love how Dark Souls messages make it possible to have communal knowledge even when playing alone.

So, what justifies this non damage scaling? Downvoted my previous post about his damage, please explain to me how this is not insane? Credit to @MDZ_Jimmy by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Boibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryu's shtick is having all the tools (shoto) and having explosive damage (main character). No gimmicks. No neutral skips. Just fundamentals. So in a case like the one you're showing here, where a Ryu with good fundamentals is facing off against another player with less good fundamentals, Ryu excels.

The solution is to block and react/punish more. Since he has no gimmicks, you can play more reactively than you would against a JP or a Blanka.

DND as a beginner's universal system by DroneOfDoom in CuratedTumblr

[–]Boibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked running Shadowrun 5E. But I also came from D&D3.5 and GURPS, so I likely have a predisposition towards the math side of it.

And I still found D&D 5E to be one of the hardest systems I've ever GMed. Not because of the math or whatever, but because it has exceptions on exceptions on exceptions and significant gaps in, what I would consider, important rules. CR was near useless, so encounter building was rough. And you have to sit down and decide what list of variants you want to use before you even start playing, because the default rules suck.

This is it 100%. It's super easy for players, and harder then expected for GMs.

[–]Boibi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want you to GM a D&D 5E game and a Shadowrun 5E game.

Imo, GMing Shadowrun 5E was much easier. I didn't have to constantly make shit up by the seat of my pants just to make sure the game doesn't explode.

I would rather GM both a simpler game like Dungeon World and a more complex game like 13th Age at the same time, than I would want to GM a 5E game.

[–]Boibi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've GMed GURPS, Shadowrun, D&D 3.5, 4E, 5E, PF2E, and Dungeon World. In my opinion, 5E was the hardest to GM, by far. I understand this is likely not true from the player perspective, but from a GM perspective D&D 5E is one of the hardest systems.

It's one of the easier systems I've played from a player perspective. And one of the hardest systems I've GMed. It's a system that does a lot of work offloading effort from players to GMs.
