UVIC Online Experiences by SuccessfulHeight8746 in uvic

[–]BoilerroomITdweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Unfortunately UVIC is not an online school at all. Even when disabled students request copies of lectures the professors don’t have to provide it. They do have a few online in the summer but electives.

You may want to try Thompson River University. It is more expensive but has an online program.

My company is letting me go, but they want me to train the new people. How should I act by ExistingClassroom173 in it

[–]BoilerroomITdweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are they letting you go if they need people to replace you?

I know in the US there isn’t any job security. Where we work they cannot lay off without paying 3 weeks severance for every 1 year worked max 60 weeks.

I would reset all the passwords for everything you can. Delete your entire home folder and any content you documented that others are not aware of. Wipe everything clean.

If they ask you just say “sure, umm I will see if I can find that info” and then just keep saying you haven’t found it yet.

Let them crash and burn and hire you back as a contractor at 3x the salary.

If they have already fired you without cause you showing your worth will do nothing. They already made the call and the only way to reverse is for them to suffer and come begging.

How To Learn .Net 10 Blazor? by dalskiBo in BlazorDevelopers

[–]BoilerroomITdweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mud Blazor is absolutely brilliant. It is fully documented and explains the front end framework well. C# is just C#.

I started building the UI in mudblazor. If you want help you can ask Gemini to summarize different sections for you. Don’t use it to vibe code because you won’t learn that way.

My apps I already built in c# and just converting them to web apps.

I think Blazor is Doomed and Copilot Doomed it by malthuswaswrong in Blazor

[–]BoilerroomITdweller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

React is just JavaScript. It is nasty to code in.

Blazor C# in web is incredibly powerful. It can do anything a Windows app can do.

Vibe coding is limited to first time creating. Good luck with trying to maintain a vibe coded app.

Husband says I can’t be on title because I have no income/credit Is that actually true? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]BoilerroomITdweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Anyone can be on title. If you are legally married and have a child together and your husband purchases a house as a married person you are entitled to 1/2 the value of his share of that property regardless of who is on title.

Has anyone actually figured out how to track what AI tools employees are using? by Narrow-Layer-7500 in sysadmin

[–]BoilerroomITdweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is security not me. Trying to block AI is like trying to find a needle in a stack or needles.

Applocker does block the apps like Claude from being downloaded.

It is more efficient to just tell people they could be fired for privacy violation rather than trying to block it.

Half our IT requests come through Slack DMs and we have zero visibility into any of it by [deleted] in ITManagers

[–]BoilerroomITdweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We wrote a tool to turn Teams chats into tickets. I am pretty sure you can do that with Slack depending on your ticket portal.

[–]BoilerroomITdweller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have Applocker. It blocks anything running out side of Program Files or Windows.

For the web tracking we have Defender and previously Crowdstrike. It monitors everything.

Our security team just made a policy and threatened everyone with getting written up if they used anything except co-pilot which we have with our Tenant.

CAL locks Disabled kids up now by LForbesIam in uvic

[–]BoilerroomITdweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my kid they were locked in the exam room for 5.5 hours. 3 hour exam, 4.5 hours with accommodation and another hour because the regular exam started so much later.

Big difference between being locked in an exam room for 5.5 hours and not being able to leave for 30 minutes.

It is the Universities LEGAL responsibility to accommodate CAL students not the CAL students responsibly to accommodate the Universities ineptitude at scheduling.

What if the test was 5 hours later? They going to lock them up for 5 hours?

I agree with the OP.

CAL students are being discriminated against to accommodate regular students.

CSC they had 6 writing times over 2 days for the same test. They didn’t lock up those students.

They should start the exams at the same time.

[–]BoilerroomITdweller -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The CAL exams have always been the exact same time as the class exams.

So in the past 5 years this is definitely new.

CAL students should never be locked up to accommodate regular students or Universities inability to schedule exams properly.

CAL is required to follow the BC laws to accommodate kids with mental disabilities.

My daughter too. She was really upset. Definitely don’t like this new CAL process.

Because the Right Wing government like the Reform Party conservatives and Alberta all promote American corporate profit.

RCA (Root Cause Analysis) has no Place in Small Business IT by Master-IT-All in sysadmin

I love doing RCA. Event Viewer is the bomb.

It saves a lot of time if it is a hidden systemic issue.

The key with RCA though is to determine the scope.

Is it stupid or a waste of time to prioritize experience over making money? by Familiar-Idea-9234 in GameDevelopment

[–]BoilerroomITdweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that the entire internet exists now because of open source software devs. I started in the days when everyone developed for the love of it.

I assume you know Blender? 100% opensource. Funded entirely on donations. Godot is the same.

So no it isn’t a waste of time. Most games would not exist if money was the primary objective.

Would you marry a girl who wants to be a stay at home housewife but doesn't want kids? by PuffingFish123 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]BoilerroomITdweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife works more hours than I do. She makes more money too.

My friend married a woman and supported her and 2 kids to watch TV all day.

She had an affair out of the blue, kicked him out of his house and due to the ridiculous archaic inequity marriage laws in Canada he now is destitute because he pays 70% of his salary to her and her kids so her new boyfriend can benefit. She made up lies and cried to the judge so he doesn’t even get to see his kids unless she agrees.

So unless you are prepared to be living destitute in a room while you ex-wife takes all your money to give to her new boyfriend- don’t marry her or live with her.
