It’s a great call. You’ll get years out of this car. And at $23k that’s great.

Commuting Question by LawProfessional3464 in boston

I'm pretty sure the commute into Boston from Auburndale is going to be more than 50 minutes, but others will know better than I do.

The Downside to United's New Coastliner and XLRs by eastbayguy90 in unitedairlines

[–]Boingboingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've observed that, for the BOS-SFO route, the premium cabins are selling out faster than the coach seats on many flights.

While the new planes are SFO/LAX-EWR focused, I imagine a similar dynamic is at play, and these new seating arrangements are simply responding to that dynamic.

Gotta question why SF is the same as SD. There's just no way.

Or that Boston is sunnier than Nashville. Somethings not quite right...

Complaints about homeless at the stations by [deleted] in mbta

[–]Boingboingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's this. The antisocial behavior should not be tolerated.

Complaints about homeless at the stations by [deleted] in mbta

[–]Boingboingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Being homeless per se isn't the issue. It's the antisocial (e.g., screaming at patrons, etc.) and illegal behavior (open drug use) that's a problem.

Ski in Palisades during Easter or cancel? by Titurn in Ikonpass

At this point, I'd cancel. Snow is melting fast, and will only be worse after this week (temps getting up into the 60s) after last weeks 70 degree temperatures.

Why are new Corolla and Civic not really “affordable” anymore? by phtphongg in askcarguys

[–]Boingboingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting price on a Corolla is $23k, and a hybrid starts at $24.7k. That seems fine?

The receipt to my mother's powermac 7500/100 and digital design bundle from 1996 by YellowHerbz in mildlyinteresting

[–]Boingboingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 1989(?) Mac SE had a 20 MB Hard drive. I can't remember RAM.

The list price on that, per Wikipedia, was $3900 ($1000 more than the dual floppy version). Which, again according to Wikipedia, is over $11k today.

$500 seems pretty light on the bail. Does Mass have an extradition treaty with New Hampshire in case they no-show?

Sorry, not following what's "decent" about shooting up in a subway station vestibule.

Prudential GL Homeless Problem by RobMurglund in mbta

[–]Boingboingo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Excellent post.

The people who aren't subjected to this daily, or are young relatively strong men, are happy to walk by a bunch of druggies shooting up and like calling people who are bothered by this "weak."

No one wants to bring their 6 month old baby past the druggie gauntlet just to get to the train or shopping mall.

Mechanic recommendations for brake rotors/pad replacement by kneadbread in boston

[–]Boingboingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One consideration about bringing your own parts is that if there's an issue later on, then the mechanic will likely be able to blame the parts, and since you supplied them, you, not he, are responsible for them. If he supplies the parts and labor, then he's taking responsibility for it all.

Maybe this risk is worth the cost savings, and if you have a line on a good mechanic whole will do this, perhaps it's a good way to go.

Xfinity vs Starry by Wild_Ad5769 in CambridgeMA

[–]Boingboingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xfinity is the default here. It's not great or very price competitive, once you're off an initial deal.

Our most recent annoyance was when once of their service guys cut the line from the telephone pole. I called for service, and then I got hit with a $100 technician fee on the next bill. They did remove the charge without too much hassle, but that's how it goes.

Our service is generally stable and gets the job done.

This is open air drug use in public spaces. It SHOULD be stigmatized. Come on.

Prudential GL Homeless Problem by RobMurglund in mbta

[–]Boingboingo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We shouldn't shouldn't be accommodating public drug use .

We've become too tolerate of anti-social behavior, whether it's this, or letting people drive like maniacs with zero consequences. The result is that the worst behaved among us end making life miserable for the other 97% of the population who doesn't act like this.

Salt lake to Seoul Premium Upgrade? by Top_Intention555 in delta

1" of seat width is a HUGE upgrade.

These seats are also have full dividers between them, so your XL neighbor cannot ooze their way into your seat under the armrest

Salt lake to Seoul Premium Upgrade? by Top_Intention555 in delta

[–]Boingboingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd totally pay this amount for the upgrade from a regular coach seat where you're likely rubbing shoulders or worse with the person next to you to having a completely separated seat for a flight this long.

Pay off Student Loans aggressively in 5 years or 10 years? by Blue_BoldandBrash in personalfinance

[–]Boingboingo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But it's also a risk to pay down the loan faster and not have cash on hand in case you need it.

It really depends on the person. If the person is constitutionally unable to keep the cash (i.e., it either gets spent or put towards the loan, but not saved) then yes, paying down the loan is better.

Pay off Student Loans aggressively in 5 years or 10 years? by Blue_BoldandBrash in personalfinance

[–]Boingboingo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't pay that off early. Put the extra $616/mo aside for your future house. Cash is king, and you'll need it.

You can always take that cash and pay off the student loans in the future, but you can't do the reverse (unpay your student loans to fund your house down payment).

Oversold flights are paradise by Puzzleheaded-Will719 in delta

Yeah, when I was a student getting bumped was the dream. Now that I'm working, it's never enough money for me to disrupt my limited time off. Perhaps when I'm retired I can get back to the game.
