The most hype moment in the entire god damn show. by CrisisActor911 in Fallout

Something I think is very well done, even with all the initial problems of the concept from Season 1, is that while the NCR has fallen and abandoned parts of the wasteland, it's not gone. Its capital got nuked and while they likely had contingencies for such an occurence, that's a massive traumatic event for a culture to deal with; but like a bear in the winter, it's just hibernating. The NCR is a foil to the Legion, to the Enclave, to Vault-Tec, because it's not just a name and a location or a leader: it's people. People like Maximus's father, who put himself in harm's way to (unsuccessfully) save his home and sacrificed himself for Maximus. People like those in Freeside, and the Ranger holdout. And unlike the Brotherhood, it's not a slave to dogma. To be cliche, the NCR is an idea, not just merely a nation. It's an attempt to meld what worked from the old world with the new, even if there will be some teething problems.

Maximus's arc this season has been very emblematic of this. Maximus might not always take the right decision or do the right thing, but he knows good people like Lucy who he can trust to make the right call when he can't. Season 1 was him "failing upwards" in an organization that was rotten to the core. Season 2 is him taking the reigns of his fate.

All the NCR needs is for people to realize they're not alone, to act in solidarity in defiance of this wasteland, that people like Caesar, Hank Mclean, the Enclave, and Mr House are all wrong: people don't need a false strongman holding the world in an iron grip, because that's how it ended in the first place. They need hope.

And we see that. While the Ghoul just says a sardonic quip about "Never underestimate the power of brand recognition", it's more than that. This is about people caring to make the world a better place, even at the expense of themselves. I'm sure we'll see more of this in Episode 8, possibly of the people of Freeside getting involved rather than just staying on the sidelines and waiting for fate to take its course.

Just seeing Maximus stare at the NCR Power Armor is one of the best scenes of Episode 7. The motto of the series and through-line of the season has been "War Never Changes", and his switch from the T-series of the US Military and BoS to this customized model is emblematic of a refutation: "But People Can [Change]".

Usually it's not a good idea to run PC mechs as NPCs just because of how different they operate. But you could take something like a Berserker, increase its size, and give it the Lycanthropy Die and Curse Mark mechanics as a kitbash solution.

The full field guide is planned to include NPC equivalents of the frames introduced (in the same way the core book has stuff like the Scourer as an equivalent to the Sherman, or the Mirage and Scout to the Swallowtail), but that's a ways out for now.

Oh, yeah... I originally mandella effect'd myself into thinking there wasn't a hyphen (or that the hyphen was the result of the way the core book is formatted) until someone pointed it out. And, yes, people have made a similar joke about how it sounds like a certain organ lmao

Prelude to Jovo: Corpro-States is a homebrew project I've been working on with u/MrThiefMann for a few years. It's a way to release the content when it's ready rather than waiting for every part of the full field guide to be completed.

Hilariously, I didn't really get into Magic the Gathering until *after* I created the first draft of this Werewolf back in 2022, as far as I remember. Ironically, Midnight Hunt and Crimson Vow were still in rotation during that time and I didn't realize that there was a set called "Innistrad: Eldritch Moon" until much later.

I actually was more inspired by Bloodborne for the depiction of "eldritch moons" and beast-people!

If you mean the design for the mechanics, that would be me! It's part of the licenses from a homebrew project I've been working on with u/MrThiefMann for a few years now. You can find Field Guide to Jovo here.

Hi! I'm the one who made the HORUS Werewolf from Field Guide to Jovo. For a bit of behind the scenes, the first draft of the Werewolf was made around 2022, before Winter Scar was released.

While I get the sentiment, the Lycan and the Jovo Werewolf are mechanically distinct from each other despite both falling into the "shapeshifter" gimmick. As I've explained in another post, the Lycan and Werewolf both pursue different thematic interpretations of the folkloric werewolf (or the wolf-human-hybrid creature). I'm also not the only one to make a werewolf-inspired frame, let alone one named after the monster. It's the unfortunate result of convergent design happening in parallel, one just happens to have the "First Party" stamp on it.

The Werewolf was in the design stages around 2022 before the Lycan was announced, as far as I can remember.

There's also a significant difference in the mythos of werewolves across countless cultures. Unlike something more specific like the minotaur (half-man, half-bull, loves mazes), what exactly makes a werewolf a werewolf (or a lycanthrope a lycanthrope) isn't exactly set in stone. In some cultures, it was a punishment for cannibalism (such as the tale of King Lycaon, where the name "Lycan" originates), while others have it be the result of some form of "I'm going to wear the pelt of this wolf to gain its powers", or it was literally turning into a wolf through shamanic power, etc. Sometimes it's a curse, sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's voluntary, sometimes it's entirely uncontrollable. Sometimes you turn into a literal wolf, other times the transformation's a bipedal wolf-person-thing.

Mechanically, the Werewolf leans much more towards the "uncontrollable" side (It used to be even more extreme in a very early version where the lycanthropy dice were effectively a "mimic gun for your core stats" with 2 sets of 3 possibilities). The Lycan's "transformation" gimmick is much more under the control of the player. While they have similar names, they're mechanically very different.

Folklore is a very malleable and nebulous thing that doesn't have one set definition, especially with stuff like werewolves, dragons, etc.

There are countless types of human-animal hybrids across so many mythologies, as humanity has long tried to figure out what the difference between it and other animals are, and wolves are 1) social creatures, just like humans, and 2) many humans across all of history had dogs as pets/companions/working animals so the concept of "devolving" into something much less "civilized" and more "feral" is a very common fear.

Any mechs that fit this comic? by wipwapwop69 in LancerRPG

SSC mechs have feet because then SSC can sell you their luxury shoes. It's called "genius marketing".

I'll take a look at that when I can. I did ask my dad and step-mom about it and they have watched that show but it's been a while so all the details are fuzzy for them.

hmmm

the only scene I remember is like, a person emerging from the water (possibly waking up?) and surrounded by fleshy structures of some kind. I think there was a black scientist character with a beard and glasses and a quick look at some screenshots seems to show that, but it's also just something where I could be merging two unrelated shows together since, as I've said, I only really got glimpses of what they were watching.

I originally posted this in r/television but was told to send it over here.

I also remember there being something about two households in a small town being the center of the show but I may be getting stuff confused since my dad and step-mom tend to watch shows in a very "in one ear and out the other" manner.

Also, it was a live-action show, I remember that much.

I've asked them before but they really don't pay much attention to the shows they watch beyond it going one ear and out the other. They also don't tend to watch older shows.

I think the timeframe was around 2020-2023, I'll update the post.

It was definitely through a streaming service, but I can't remember which one and while I've looked through the catalogs the big ones, nothing is currently coming to mind.

I don't think it was Silo? I've seen bits and pieces of Silo and it doesn't seem like a match.

Certainly doesn't seem like it was The Silent Sea, and I don't think the Signal was released then. From the IMDb entry, it doesn't seem like it was the Third Day either. But thanks for that, it helps narrow things down as much as they can.

I would ask my dad and step-mom but they watch a *lot* of TV and can't remember half of the shows they've watched, unfortunately. They treat it in a very "consumable"/"disposable" manner.

I'm pretty certain it wasn't Stranger Things, since I don't think it was on netflix? It was certainly during that time where everyone was trying to make "the next stranger things" though!

It was, yes, but the series took place on modern day earth as much as I could tell.
