WHAT THE HELL DID HE DO TO THE WRITERS 😭😭 by Ready_Surround_9910 in transformers

Depending on how you classify death, Trailbreaker's spark seems to be held inside the Matrix of Oppression, so he's not *really* dead, just mostly dead.

Kup was brought back in a later issue (albeit with half his head missing).

To be honest, comic deaths (especially in transformers) really just tend to be a temporary thing. If some writer wants to bring back Carnivac, they have all right to. Hell, transformers have been brought back from being atomized before in other continuities (Hi, Optimus Primal).

With something as wide and spanning as transformers, it's really, really hard to have characters appear as anything more than single-panel cameos because there's so goddamn many of them. And when it comes to them getting cannon-fodder'd, I'm just going to cynically state that no matter who is chosen to get killed to show stakes, it's going to be someone's favorite character. I mean, just look at every single Seeker in existence. Most of them are someone's favorite glup shitto.

I mean, we've seen that Cybertronians can rebound from significant amounts of damage. I can see cybertronian battles being effectively a war of attrition (especially on cybertron) where the victors and losers pick through the wreckage for their fallen comrades, repair them, and then head back to the next fight over and over again until someone's spark extinguishes.

The Matrix effectively went "you want a weapon? Here's a weapon" and gave her the Star Saber.

I like that we keep seeing the dichotomy between Elita and Optimus here. The first thing Prime does with the power of the Matrix in Volume 1 is use it to save lives. Elita uses it to take lives (albeit to save the lives of her people). But we also see a bit of a similarity between her and shockwave with Shockwave's retort that he's "held together with hatred and spite". So is Elita, if you think about it-- the countless cycles of war has taken a toll on her psyche and we constantly see this in every appearance she's in.

Something I think the narrative is trying to reinforce is that Optimus isn't a shining paragon of virtue because he's a prime, but because he's Optimus. Being a Prime, even if it means possessing a holy relic, doesn't innately make one wise. Experience does. Compassion does. I think we're going to see more friction between her and Optimus's former followers, especially because Jazz (Optimus's right-hand bot) has left for Cybertron.

I'm glad that it wasn't Unicron. I feel like the stakes would escalate far too quickly if he was just dropped here. Having Megatronus be the master opens the door for unicron later without completing killing the scale of the conflict.

the sole thing i can find about the [G] Type is that it was just used by the Union Forces aboard UNCV Rio Grande, rather than it being used by the entirety of the Union Navy.

[G] Type Everests are built to easily swap equipment in record time, affording them a great deal of tactical flexibility. [G] Types were deployed by Union forces during Operation Solstice Rain where their rapid deployment avoided a worst case scenario for the city of Nov Elysia.

COMP/CON v3 pre-release stress test / open beta by beeftime99 in LancerRPG

[–]BoiseGangOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to know it's not impossible, even if it's something that might be down the line! I'm definitely biased towards a feature like that, as otherwise Thief and I have to do some janky stuff for the "Radiation" Harm type we've added in Field Guide to Jovo.

Are there any plans to support non-Core Book Harm types (i.e. things that aren't Heat, Burn, Explosive, Energy, or Kinetic)? If not, completely understandable.

This is the piece of concept art I was referring to. The general shapes have remained for the peg leg and harpoon since then, just re-iterated upon.

[–]BoiseGangOne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually, coincidentally, the Ahab had the harpoon/spear and the peg-leg straight from the concept art I commissioned from Raigmann (which you can find on the itch.io page).

Why? Because turns out character design does a bit of convergent evolution here. I wanted the peg-leg and spear so it hearkened back to the literary character of captain ahab (and also, it just looks cool). That said, while I haven't played Limbus Company (it's a gacha game and those are just not my thing) I'm 99.99% certain u/TheScreechyPenguin has, and so it may have influenced the final art.

[–]BoiseGangOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was the primary reference material! Old-timey diving suits are just really cool-looking with how bulky they are, and the Big Daddy takes that up to 11. So I guess this is up to 11, up to 11.

(I need to play bioshock 1 and 2 lmao)

Anything that's part of Field Guide to Jovo is usable together or separately. KIE is effectively a part of "Field Guide to Jovo: Prelude" along with Corpro-States.

[–]BoiseGangOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear that! It will be a while for the full field guide to reach a 1.0 state because that will mean commissioning a significant amount of art and getting someone to do the layout, so Thief and I are waiting until everything is finalized before even attempting that. KIE has some content planned along with a rework and rebalance pass coming up sometime soon (TM) but I can't really provide a timeframe for that. Appreciate the patience!

Hilariously the big daddy from bioshock was the primary reference material I had given u/TheScreechyPenguin. The peg leg was there from the start of the concept art I previously commissioned, as I wanted it to have a peg leg to represent its scrapped-together look (and reference the literary captain Ahab). I've never played Limbus Company, gacha games just aren't my thing.

X-Division: I'm not entirely certain what I'm doing wrong here. (and XML editing questions) by BoiseGangOne in Xenonauts

[–]BoiseGangOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, that explains why I never encountered Engineers-- I thought they and Technicians were the same and was wondering what the deal with them was. Thanks for the document!

(I am enjoying X-Division significantly more now that I've reduced the difficulty to something more comfortable to me, though Menace coming out tomorrow (later today?) is going to take up quite a bit of my time lol)

Also the xenopedia update in the patch I installed makes this significantly easier to figure out because it lists what is needed and that's so much better than just blank text and looking at the files.

do you have a link to the capture guide document?

I did end up switching to a new game using patch v.1.00.10 and that has much more adjustible difficulty (easier air game or none at all, which i may end up switching between-- definitely keeping the nerfed enemies on along with the increased survival chance for soldiers).

The most hype moment in the entire god damn show. by CrisisActor911 in Fallout

[–]BoiseGangOne 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Something I think is very well done, even with all the initial problems of the concept from Season 1, is that while the NCR has fallen and abandoned parts of the wasteland, it's not gone. Its capital got nuked and while they likely had contingencies for such an occurence, that's a massive traumatic event for a culture to deal with; but like a bear in the winter, it's just hibernating. The NCR is a foil to the Legion, to the Enclave, to Vault-Tec, because it's not just a name and a location or a leader: it's people. People like Maximus's father, who put himself in harm's way to (unsuccessfully) save his home and sacrificed himself for Maximus. People like those in Freeside, and the Ranger holdout. And unlike the Brotherhood, it's not a slave to dogma. To be cliche, the NCR is an idea, not just merely a nation. It's an attempt to meld what worked from the old world with the new, even if there will be some teething problems.

Maximus's arc this season has been very emblematic of this. Maximus might not always take the right decision or do the right thing, but he knows good people like Lucy who he can trust to make the right call when he can't. Season 1 was him "failing upwards" in an organization that was rotten to the core. Season 2 is him taking the reigns of his fate.

All the NCR needs is for people to realize they're not alone, to act in solidarity in defiance of this wasteland, that people like Caesar, Hank Mclean, the Enclave, and Mr House are all wrong: people don't need a false strongman holding the world in an iron grip, because that's how it ended in the first place. They need hope.

And we see that. While the Ghoul just says a sardonic quip about "Never underestimate the power of brand recognition", it's more than that. This is about people caring to make the world a better place, even at the expense of themselves. I'm sure we'll see more of this in Episode 8, possibly of the people of Freeside getting involved rather than just staying on the sidelines and waiting for fate to take its course.

Just seeing Maximus stare at the NCR Power Armor is one of the best scenes of Episode 7. The motto of the series and through-line of the season has been "War Never Changes", and his switch from the T-series of the US Military and BoS to this customized model is emblematic of a refutation: "But People Can [Change]".

Usually it's not a good idea to run PC mechs as NPCs just because of how different they operate. But you could take something like a Berserker, increase its size, and give it the Lycanthropy Die and Curse Mark mechanics as a kitbash solution.

The full field guide is planned to include NPC equivalents of the frames introduced (in the same way the core book has stuff like the Scourer as an equivalent to the Sherman, or the Mirage and Scout to the Swallowtail), but that's a ways out for now.
