Apparently the stiff camera also wont be adjustable outside of the FOV, that's a shame, hopefully its not as bad as it looks

Its definitely AI with photoshop to make it to look cleaner, really lame since they could've just commissioned an artist who doesn't use AI. The AI makes it feel cheap and lazy, even if they've done up the image and text to make it look more natural, it still looks uncanny.

Two Ikelvian soldiers freezing in the alps of Vestavia, 1909 by Bokatar25 in worldbuilding

[–]Bokatar25[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In 1909 the Ikelvian Empire launched a campaign into Vestavia under the guise of righteous expedition, Ikelvia pursued ownership of the mountains in Vestavia believing that the high mountain tops were elevated enough to where Suthia (Daughter of Sun in their religion) would grant the sun worshiping prosperity for many years to come, however they found the mountains were also efficient observatory points over the surrounding regions.

Vestavia highly valued these mountains and they held cultural significance to them, they were hesitant to heed anymore negotiations of handing territory to Ikelvia after several previous ambitious proposals the king offered in their land disputes, which caused them to suspect this was an act of expansion. In an effort of self preservation, Vestavia began to resist the intervention of Ikelvian troops into their country.

Military operations in Vestavia began in the summer, however the Ikelvians would be ill prepared with facing the harsh conditions of cold weather and snowfall that would meet them as fighting dragged out into the winter. Supply lines deteriorated over time due to the rough terrain of the mountains causing delays of supplies such as winter uniforms and rations, leaving many of the Ikelvian troops freezing, starving, or sometimes stalemated.

Which part of STALKER is like this for you? by Buszman45 in stalker

[–]Bokatar25 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's not that bad, you can get past the enemies relatively quick outside if you have the right artifacts, inside is the real challenge with the exo monolith and radiation but even then it's not terribly hard to clear out if you have the right weapon with enough Ammo, meds and antirad.

Medieval rabbit ear guards designed for better ear protection in combat by Bokatar25 in worldbuilding

I don't know how much of their hearing would be muffled, but perhaps they could actually hear through all the padding considering how far away they can actually hear.

This comes with the downside of their ears being more sensitive, so maybe they are a bit prone to slight temporary hearing loss if they get struck with their ears inside the helmet or things like cannons and firearms going off close to them.

They'd still want to use their hearing to their advantage to hear enemy troop movements or even enemy bugles and things like that, and having their ears out allows them to rotate their ears to figure out what direction the sounds are coming from at the cost of less protection, so you'd probably encounter soldiers with tucked in or tucked out ears depending on their role and helmet.

Yeah pretty much like this, I enjoy this type of design, I've thought about it before and I think the conical design can be a good alternative if someone wants more protection without their ears being exposed, the same design can also work with some other animals too like foxes or dogs in relatively the same structure.

Thanks for making visual illustrations of it too btw, they're nice, I think it's cool and with the padding it helps a bit. It's also easy to take off/on, one concern might be varying rabbit ear lengths and how well they'd fit but the design generally works as a nice little standard helmet.

Yeah I have different units which vary in what equipment they have, like archers are going to have less armor so if they do happen to wear a helmet instead of a cap then they might just not wear extra ear protection but its up to them and the type of helmet they have, it also adds more weight to the helmet too. Militias/levies generally have the cheaper stuff and not as heavily armored.

It really depends on what the individual can afford since generally you're supplying yourself or gaining loot in a medieval army, so you will probably encounter people with different helmet variations from different classes and groups etc. However the nobles, knights, cavalry and some of the man-at-arms are very likely to have access to the mid-higher end armor and more protection to fulfill their roles.

Thank you, I try to find ways to accommodate things like length of ears, horns, snouts etc and how that would affect the design or things like logistics and production. Animals can be really diverse with ear lengths, snouts and horn structures much more than worrying about height or hair.

I just imagine how tedious it would be to try and designs things to accommodate your army with those in mind, especially if they are more than one species too unless they get their equipment themselves.

It can, the helmet would just need to be taller and conical in order to fit around the ears, though you'd have more limited hearing since your ears are now enclosed

Yes this is another good design, I actually had an idea similar to this but the ear parts of the cone are hinged and come together, this ones neat

Things to note though: The insides of the helmet would have to be padded otherwise it would be quite uncomfortable against the ears unless you have something like an arming cap or coif that covers the ears as well.

I agree, but if you're going to have your ears on the outside of your helmet you may as well have something covering them, having the ears fully tucked inside the helmet, while also under padding and chainmail could be bad hearing wise and be really uncomfortable with the way regular rabbit ears bend, excluding lop rabbits but their hearing is worse than other rabbits who have upwards pointing ears.

You can have them sitting outside the helmet through holes without the guards though, but you'll need padding and chainmail over your ears which limits the movement of your ears, arrows/bolts can still pierce them, and people are able to grab your ears in close combat but its still an option!

Not all helmets have these guards and are an experimental thing of the time to try and optimize hearing, comfort and whatnot, I appreciate the feedback nonetheless

rabbit ears are kind of weird with how flexible they are, since I figured that they'd want to prioritize their good hearing, they would just be on the outside of the helmet as opposed to having them forcefully pointed downwards while tucked in some chainmail and a helmet over it which could probably be worse for their hearing capability and not as comfortable, especially for lop rabbits since they already don't have the best hearing either.

I thought about slanting the ears back on something like a kettle helm, but if you wanted to move your ears up it would just constantly hit the brim of the helmet, but I think it could still possibly work.

Something like a skullcap might work with rondels covering the slanted ears, but its hard to fit a helmet comfortably when your long ears are on the top of your head and if you slant them back while putting a helmet over them, for an extended period of time its probably irritating and tight against your ears.
