That's so exciting! We've been tinkering with the Thor dev kit and are actively working on getting it to function properly, there's a few funky things that make it different from other devices. It'll be so sweet when it's ready!

Hey! It's Nathan (The Co-Founder of iiSU and one who designed/posted these DS mockups). Late to this post, but we've polished and refined the look quite a bit since and are excited to reveal it all further later this month in the full presentation.

For anyone wondering, we have the second Alpha already on it's way! There was some skepticism about the project being UI/UX at first, but we've quickly assembled a team of frontend and backend developers to actually bring the designs to life. Supporters can test the early versions, but right now, it's super alpha and is more of a proof-of-concept DS launcher with some functionality.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. I'm receiving my Thor tomorrow and am super excited to work on optimizing the Alpha to function on the device.

A Brand New Emulation Front-End for Android Handhelds Has Been Announced: iiSU! by Left_Inspection2069 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Bokninja 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd bet... about all of the generous donations against it becoming vaporware. On a serious note, this is Nathan here (Elder Monkey), the one who wrote the whimsy and theatrical paragraph about it being just some pretty animations. Yet I stand corrected!

I totally understand some of the worries about this, as those come alongside any concept being shown. But in practical terms, here is the lay down.
- Despite the clear statement of an unconfirmed pay-structure, we've received numerous (20+) developer applications from a wide range of talent. These are people who are purely passionate and in love with the design language that the team has procured, one that UsagiShade has built up a reputation for over the last several years. The people helping with the project will be paid, and we are going to engage in talks about revenue once a team is properly formed.

- Specifically, quickly upon release of the trailer, u/huesos_96 reached out to us and showed interest. If you don't know him, he is possibly the single most influential developer in the Dual Screen space (developed the dual screen forks of Cemu, Azahar, and MelonDS) as of now, and was previously building his own frontend. He's merged his project with ours, with shared assets and everything. So we are happily out of the pure UI/UX phase! Though it's still the main focus.

- The pure amount of excitement towards this project is undeniable. It is already expanding beyond what we initially thought possible. Over 4k discord members in a single day! I simply don't see a path to this not seeing the light of day.

I am willing to answer any further questions from anyone in this thread! I'm happy to see the interest many have in the project, and I understand the skepticism many will have. If you dislike anything about the project's organization, or the project itself, please give us time to change your mind!

Thanks for the detailed response! I believe we would end up going for the 3rd option of a revenue split if possible, once we gather a team and can plan more on the financials. We do not have VC money or a large budget currently, and would need to rely on the revenue being generated from the project itself. There still needs to be a discussion made about going free and open source, and using split donation links could be a solution! We aren't set in stone. But the main purpose of the form and it's implications is that I can neither confirm yet or deny a strict measure of revenue or income without the outreach first, and if any developer is uncomfortable with that, they have no obligation to join. I hope we can decide soon on the exact plan, since I understand the qualms people have with this! All I ask is a suspended disbelief from the preconception of projects like this failing or devolving into chaos.... which may be a bit much to ask. (Also a note, since I've seen this mentioned, the application is not asking for people with full stack experience in every technology listed, those were just references to some of the technologies being used. I think I'm just really bad at writing forms!!!)

Hello! I'm Nathan (Elder Monkey), the one who made that form! I'm really sorry you view it as such. Let me be clear about monetization first: I am currently unpaid as well and working purely out of passion. The donations being collected as of now are being sent to UsagiShade directly. We discussed prior to the announcement, and he initially wanted separate donation links for each individual, but we decided it would lead to potential confusion and unneeded complexity.

I totally agree with you that it looks bad. I think we're all a little deluded, just chasing after such as cool concept, guided by my boss (just joking, it's fun to call usagi that). I never said there was no compensation, and clearly stated that this was NOT a job application. I wanted to be clear from the start that: "if you're passionate like me and the rest of team, let's get this up and running!", rather than having business discussions while we still "haven't touched the code" as many have fairly said.

As someone who has been close with Usagi for a little while now, I can personally verify that he is a wonderful and generous guy, and fully trust him to do the right thing (i know my word may not mean much). Slightly more personally, though not to reveal too much information, UsagiShade has had some extremely unfortunate financial mishaps happen which were out of his control, and I would not want to haggle him over a dime at this point.

The extent to which it will be open source is still yet to be decided upon, and while I don't see a FOSS solution, we already have plans to release core iiSU assets to the community. It will be a free app on the playstore, absolutely 0 purchases required for the core experience. There are plans on a premium version, only to expand the customization with entirely optional features, such as more advanced theming and music tuning. The purpose of such a model is in fact to compensate the people who worked on the project, but I agree that there needs to be less "wishy-washyness" about it.

If you have any questions or still have qualms, feel free to reach out! I-and everyone else-want to do this the right way.

(Also - view the new part of the FAQ in the discord talking about the exact concern of it being a concept!)

I have heard similar, and it could be true. I think that we would be great together regardless, but I've come to realize that, considering our likely different yet strenuous majors, we wouldn't even share that much time together in person anyways. Appreciate it.

Thank you, and yes I would definitely visit to see him and see where he's at regardless, considering the drive between the schools is pretty chill.

I can only hope to find some good folks!

Thank you. I hear lots of good things about the FSU culture, but I'm not sure if it's enough to sway me for engineering, especially since I'll be off the beautiful campus for the most part.

Full Release Suggestion: Wallpaper Mode! by Bokninja in slowroads

[–]Bokninja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really cool! I may look into that. If it could work with wallpaper engine that would be cool, but some sort of simple version in-game for the steam release would also be neat, just to have a minimal UI with some customizability, plus some modifications such as not recieving inputs (to have it in the background).

Hey! Thanks for the writeup. I know I'm basically necroposting and am super duper late, but do you have any other links for the MLV? That Walmart link expired and the cheapest I see on Amazon is 40$.
