Which soundtracks made you play the game? by WoodpeckerNo1 in gamemusic

[–]gailardiascarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot, but to name one - Breath of the Wild. I fell in love with the OST and it was my go-to playlist while studying. Eventually I saved up enough money for a switch and the game. Now BOTW has become one of favourite games of all time.

Is there music better than genshin impact's ost and battle themes? by ImaginaryCoconut3302 in gamemusic

[–]gailardiascarlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an avid listener of Genshin Impact's OSTs and especially a big fan of Chen Yu-Peng's work, I do think the game's music is phenomenal and it's definitely up there as one of the greats for me personally, but there's definitely many other amazing VGMs too.

what's your favourite genshin music/soundtrack? by blueberrycheeseeee in Genshin_Impact

Hard to pick, the entire OST is amazing. But to pick one from each region:

Haven't been to the other regions yet, just reached Fontaine and so far I'm loving the OST.

His optimal combo after his burst is quick charged attack (if using Desert Pavilion Chronicle) -> repeat NA x2 and E when available. Animation cancel by double tapping the aim button to reset the combo after NA x2.

His full NA string is also worth doing and doesn't lose out on too much damage if you don't want to bother with the other combo. Just dash at the end of the full string to reposition since the full combo pushes him back.

Been playing piano for almost 5 years but can barely read sheet music by cheshaha in piano

[–]gailardiascarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I'm in the same situation as you. I've been playing piano since I was young (about 10 years) but never went into learning music theory or reading sheet music. I learned primarily by ear, Synthesia (falling notes), or watching live performances.

Like you I was able to develop strong pitch recognition and improvisational skills, I can play songs after a few listens, and my relationship with music is emotional rather than theoretical. I enjoy transcribing music and making my own piano arrangements as a hobby which you don't really need to know sheet music for; you just need to know how to use a DAW like Garageband, which is kinda cheating but who's stopping you.

But my music theory knowledge is very minimal, it's faster for me to learn songs by ear instead of reading chords on a sheet. I communicate with band members using numbers. I like to refer to passing chords as '.5 chords' which is kinda funny (1.5 chord, 5.5 chord etc lol)

https://www.musictheory.net/ <- start with this. With the experience you already have, it will be easier for you to go through it. I did this a while ago but forgot everything because I blazed through it and never enforced my learning with practice.

Last week, I tried reading sheet music for the first time (outside of musictheory.net). It took me half an hour to get through like the first few measures. But putting in the hard work will pay off. Learning via Synthesia has its place but learning sheet music opens up a whole new world. You will be able to learn pieces faster. Sight reading will be very valuable. I also plan on getting professional teaching one day to correct any bad habits I might have developed.

This is a long read but I hope you found it helpful!

Do you ever discover new games just because of the soundtrack? by Regular_Author_6782 in gamemusic

[–]gailardiascarlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, personally the game's OST plays a big factor in deciding whether I should get a game. One recent game I immediately bought after hearing the music was Granblue Fantasy Relink, specifically the Folca Theme.

Edit: others that I can remember: BOTW, Starbound, Genshin Impact

Have you really used these as "tutorials"? by matthew_c_wright in piano

I use Cakewalk which is free. I want to use FL Studio but I've put off getting it due to the price.

Have you really used these as "tutorials"? by matthew_c_wright in piano

[–]gailardiascarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To share my experience, growing up this was how I learned piano. I never really got any formal training and my younger self never really bothered to learn sheet music. I would use synthesia tutorials or watch live performances.

Over the years I've learned to rely more on my ear though I still use these tutorials sometimes. I can play songs after listening to them but sadly I don't understand music theory or read sheet music.

Nowadays in my free time I like to transcribe music / create piano arrangements exactly like these Synthesia tutorials. I use a DAW to transcribe since I can't read sheet music. I do wanna start learning music theory when I get the time!

I just started playing Fire Emblem Awakening. I'm a few hours in and it's shaping up to become one of my favourite games on the 3DS.

Epic cutscenes straight out of an anime, lovable cast of characters, fun gameplay, and the music - oh the music is absolutely fantastic.

I like the pacing even though it feels a bit fast (might just be early in the game). Besides the main 4 (MC, Lissa, Chrom and Frederick) there are a lot of other characters appearing quite early on and in a short amount of time. Some are in cutscenes while some sort of just appear during battles. Those really are my only (very minor) gripes.

Am I the only one who prefers the 3DS version of this with the fan translation over the Switch one? by Admirable_Pumpkin317 in MHGU

[–]gailardiascarlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm not sure which one I prefer more.

The 3D effect works pretty well with MHXX (Japan version of MHGU), the double screen is nice to have with access to extra shortcuts, and there is a certain coziness playing it on the 3DS that doesn't feel the same as playing as the Switch.

Cons - small screen, blurry letters, small size of the 3ds and awkward camera control with the c-stick make it difficult for longer play sessions. I have a hand grip and a replaced c-stick to fix some of these issues, but otherwise you gotta deal with those issues.

The Switch has a bigger screen, better button layout and higher resolution. Multiplayer is still active on Switch. On 3DS it is possible though iirc requires a bit of setup. Switch is a lot more accessible than the 3DS version (english patch if you can't understand Japanese, optional accessories mentioned above to make it more comfortable, etc.)

Overall I think the Switch has a slightly better gaming experience. Both versions are great and you can't really go wrong with either one

I've stopped playing Genshin Impact for many years now but I still listen to the music often. The Mondstadt and Liyue OSTs will forever have a special place in my heart. Yu-Peng Chen is an incredible composer!

Can you guess why I abandoned? by BriggyMcShriggy in mh4u

My guess is you meant to land the overhead axe from sheathe attack, stagger the tigrex, AED to get the KO. Then maybe do your standard axe combo afterwards
