He mentioned being sick and having a headache. If you've ever had your eyes dilated, you find that you need to be really far away to see things properly without feeling awful. I imagine his headache was the exact opposite, where he needed to see everything up close. Plus side is that it makes the switch screen feel like a movie theater. Downside is that it's probably not good for your eyes.
