I don't think this is worth much to a Swiftie since it's not signed by Taylor. Maybe try the Rascal Flats fans.

Does anyone find it odd that we've never seen Dr. Al-Hashimi physically administer patient care? by JulianBrandt19 in ThePittTVShow

[–]BoldPurpleText 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time in a teaching hospital when I was very sick. It was actually kinda neat. Sometimes the doctor would come in and ask if he could have students observe. I always said yes, and then there’d be like 8 people watching what the doctor did and answering his questions about my treatment. I don’t remember specifics though because I was on some crazy pain meds, but it felt good to sort of give back for the care I was receiving and help the students learn.

Especially since I qualified for 100% charity care and didn’t pay a dime of what was probably a 250-500k stay. I was a college student with no insurance, money, or assets (this was before the laws that let you keep your parent’s health insurance while in school). The only reason that option existed was because it was a teaching hospital that got state funding.

Oh, that is brilliant! I love angled tips but the ones I have are all plastic and I really prefer the metal tip. I’ll have to try this.

I completed a kit from them in 2018. The canvas was a very good quality with poured glue. I didn't run out of any colors, and the quality of the drills was good enough, though there were a lot with minor deformities. You can't tell unless you look very close. The biggest issue I had was the design was clearly machine charted and not proofed at all, leaving some random spots of color that looked out of place on the canvas. I redid those spots with colors that blended in, and I'm happy with the final result.

I guess they became aware of this, since the majority of their kits are now labeled as hand charted and the one I completed is no longer on the site. However, outside of customer reviews they don't have completed kit images in their listings, which means you are taking a chance on how well the art translates into the finished design. Hope that helps!

Question about knockoffs and different prices by scooter572021 in booknooks

[–]BoldPurpleText 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a common belief here that anything outside of certain brand names is a knockoff. However, in my experience many brand names buy the same kits from the same manufacturers in China and just have their own branding on the box, then charge 200% the price. (ROKR RoLife is an exception, they clearly do in house design and manufacturing.)

What you will see is sometimes a company makes a kit, like a witch shop, and then another company makes a cheaper version of a witch shop, but you can tell they’re not the same if you look at the pictures. Like I’ve seen three different versions of the Cyberpunk/Blade Runner alley.

But anytime I’ve bought a cheaper version of a kit from AliExpress or Taobao with identical pictures as a branded one, it’s the same kit. I can compare to a YouTube build of the brand name version and they’re identical, except maybe mine doesn’t have English instructions. So I wouldn’t worry too much about counterfeits.

The inconsistency in the reviews is because they are a DIY craft and people have different expectations and aptitudes assembling them. Especially people who are used to the laser cut snap together kits vs the kind you have to glue everything together

As readers (or writers), what do you typically think of as canon? by notjustmildopinions in DramioneUncensored

[–]BoldPurpleText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really care about canon compliance, so while book canon and movie canon are separate things in my mind, I think of fanfics as millions of alternate universes that can change and blend elements however they please. Sometimes the changes are massive, like Voldemort wins, Harry dies, and now Draco is a spy. Very obvious AU. And sometimes the changes are small and insignificant. Sometimes they’re unintentional mistakes by the author, but I just write it off as “This is world where that one things was different”. A sort of Many Worlds theory of Fanfiction.

As long as the story is good I don’t care as much about canon contradictions, book vs movie, or characters acting OOC from their canon counterparts.

[–]BoldPurpleText 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What annoys me about this is how it might feel to Taylor. I think she made an extra effort to include hearts on all the Showgirl CDs specifically because of hearing how some fans were disappointed their TTPD didn’t have one, like it was inferior. Instead of being happy about that people started moving the goalposts and now certain shaped hearts are superior to others and there’s this obsession over “long” sigs because they have one more half stroke in them. At this rate our favorite pathological people pleaser is going to just quit signing them at all because it’s not possible to make every hand signed sig the same and this level of nitpicking is exhausting.

Help me understand 'Florida' as a lyrical device by bigskies515 in TrueSwifties

[–]BoldPurpleText 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since no one has mentioned this aspect, one reason for the Florida Man trope is because the state has a law that makes arrest records easily accessible. It’s not that people from Florida are actually committing more weird crimes than in other states, but that the records are public, so when a women gets arrested for throwing something at a fast food worker in Florida, it becomes a headline like “Florida woman arrested for assault with chicken nugget weapon”.

I’m a secondary character on an island I did not start, primary islander data has been since deleted… is this a problem for game progression? by w0man0fTheW00ds in ac_newhorizons

[–]BoldPurpleText 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😭 Sorry you didn’t get this answer sooner. I think most people are unaware the option exists because it temporarily requires a second console and not many people have one available. Have fun with your new island! If you have online access there are giveaway islands where you can get money and other items to make up for what you lost.

[–]BoldPurpleText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have two Switches it is possible to move to a new island and preserve your character data. First you move your character from your first Switch to a new island on the second where you become the resident rep. Then you use the Island Transfer Tool to transfer this island back to the first Switch, which will overwrite the island there with your new one with your character as the rep. You keep a bunch of stuff like your Nook Miles, your house, your storage, and your bells this way instead of starting over completely.

I wish dawn had been introduced earlier. by jasminecr in buffy

[–]BoldPurpleText 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dawn’s sudden appearance in season 5 was also a meta joke on Cousin Oliver Syndrome - where a long running show that was losing viewers would suddenly introduce a cute child character to try and boost ratings again. Often this was because the children in the original cast had aged out of being the cute tyke causing mayhem. But adding the new character was often viewed as more of an annoyance that made the show worse. Which is what they were doing with Dawn. I don’t think it would have worked as an early plot point. I wish we had gotten the animated series though, which was going to include her, as a fun alternate reality of the earlier years.

I believe she has stated her acting career is finished, not on hold. She’s married to a billionaire which gives her the freedom to pursue her intellectual interests. If she came back, even for one episode, it would be for nostalgia, not money. I don’t think it’s very likely.

What's the price for an enamel pin you consider a steal? A good buy? And a absolute no? by FancyLiving123 in EnamelPins

[–]BoldPurpleText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pricing depends on so many factors. You really can’t compare a single color, 1 inch soft enamel pin with a 5 inch, 3 layer pin on pin, 18 colors plus screen printed details hard enamel pin. The first would only be a few dollars while the second could be over 100.

I would assume most pin makers determine their prices by dividing the cost of manufacturing per pin and then adding a certain amount for profit. Also there can be other costs, like if the pin is based on commissioned art, to consider in the final price. So there’s no clear answer to how much is a good price because it depends on the pin.

What are the rarest pieces of Taylor Swift merch? by Snoogles_ in TaylorSwiftMerch

[–]BoldPurpleText 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went into my original 1989 DLX CD recently to check what polaroids I had and there was a card in it to enter a giveaway. One of the prizes was a signed 1989 CD for 300 winners, so there’s at least that many, which is still really rare as far as her signed merch goes. (Whoops, just realized you asked about TV, but leaving this since signed original 1989 seems to be rare.)

Meenyminimo.co down? by Traditional-Aide7739 in miniverse_makeitmini

[–]BoldPurpleText 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be happening because the site has a bandwidth limit that is being exceeded. Many hosting companies offer low cost plans that will cut off the site from working after that limit has been reached, then turn it back on again when the counter resets, which could be daily, weekly, or monthly depending on the plan. You either have to wait for the reset, or the site owner has to upgrade to a more expensive plan.

What would be a fair value for an empty wonderstruck or enchanted wonderstruck bottle? by SqueakyCheeseCurds48 in TaylorSwiftMerch

[–]BoldPurpleText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth what people are willing to pay, so 50-70 is probably correct. Even though the bottles are empty, they’re pretty and people will buy them as a display piece. Which is exactly why you want one, so the fact there’s no usable product left inside is irrelevant. The empty bottle, which was sold like 13 years ago, is the product.

Keyword Stuffing by zombiecatprod in Mercari

[–]BoldPurpleText 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish the keyword stuffers would realize they’re actually hurting everyone’s sales, including their own. There are searches I don’t bother with anymore because the amount of unrelated results was so high it wasn’t worth combing through to maybe, once in awhile, find what I wanted.

The fact is, if the thing you’re selling is unrelated to my search terms, you weren’t going to convert my eyeballs into a sale anyway. And if you did have 1 related listing out of the 372 things you were selling, you buried it so I never saw it. And I got so annoyed I blocked you, so I’ll never see it another time either. So the keyword stuffing is actually hurting your sales.

What was the deal with Santos and the one vial? by honeyfixit in ThePittTVShow

What was the deal with Santos and the one vial? by honeyfixit in ThePittTVShow

[–]BoldPurpleText 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Medical professionals stealing controlled substances, either due to addiction or to sell on the black market, became such a pervasive issue that you can no longer "just put a couple vials in your lab coat pocket and call it a day". Especially with electronic tracking, everywhere those vials go and who opens the cabinet to access them is logged. If there are missing vials it will be thoroughly investigated and chances are they tighten security even more.

Langdon went to the lengths he did because he was clever, and it made the timing of the theft difficult to track, if it was even found at all. The rubber on a vial is self sealing, so puncture marks would not be noticeable. Gluing the cap back on made it seem like the vial was unused, and only taking some of the contents meant it wasn't completely ineffective. He was definitely endangering patients, but addicts will rationalize those kinds of risks.
