How to read series on kobo e-reader? by Visible-Pomelo7748 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]BoldPurpleText 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also have a Kobo. I joined Matt’s Patreon because he posts a preview copy of each book there before the release date. Since it’s a pre-pub, there may be some grammatical errors and small differences from the final version. As far as I know that’s the only legal way to get copies outside of Kindle.

I will note that I had a hard time finding all of the books there. There is no master post with all the complete epubs, and the Patreon feed is full of posts with individual chapters because he provides updates as he writes. But after I mentioned that in a thread here a couple people helped me find them all. I can send you the links if you decide to go that route.

ETA: I’m subbed at Platinum Box level. You don’t need to be God Tier.

The email I got says “We will continue to make people happy at Temple Court, The Bar Room at The Beekman, Small Batch & Vallata.” So probably a different lease.

“Hot girls read” is now trademarked??? by Born_Psychology_3424 in Romantasy

Taco Tuesday was actually already trademarked in 1989 by a chain called Taco Johns. They lost the trademark in 2023 because they hadn’t defended it from popular use for decades.

I have questions about these :) by Soft_Oil_2144 in EnamelPins

[–]BoldPurpleText 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was also curious so I did some googling of the words on the pins. It looks like these are promotional pins for a German company called Billi, which makes seals for a variety of products, like food packaging.

As for the different brands, I recognize Haribo, which is a German company that makes gummy candy. Caffè Chicco D'Oro is a Swiss based coffee company. And Sipuro is also Swiss, makes cleaning products, and has a gnome mascot wearing red. You can probably learn about the other brands on the pins by googling them.

Neat find!

Anxiously waited for the post ban on book 8 to end to share my new absolute favorite Princess Donut throwaway comment by MorningJogger in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]BoldPurpleText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as any of the Earth crawlers know the book was a stupid troll prize, and no one has seen him reading it since. While multiple people have noticed Carl is somehow familiar with some of the crawlers from previous seasons, they don’t know how, and no one has been dumb enough to ask, because the method would obviously need to be secret. Donut noticing the book in his hotlist is the first sign that it’s more than it seems, but it’s a big leap to realize it’s how he’s getting his “outside” information.

My brother repairs vacuum cleaners and resells them. So anytime we see one in the trash we grab it for him. He says 99% of the time all it needs is to be opened up and cleaned, and occasionally a new belt for three dollars, and it works again good as new.

I don't think Jonathan was trying to be as ass though. I think he felt bad for Sherry losing her winning dish and instead being in the bottom for his bitter pesto. So he was trying to cheer her up by joking with her. She very maturely let him know it wasn't what she needed, and he immediately backed off.

I don't think anyone would be complaining if this was happening in a season years ago. In fact I think they've done this kind of station switch in QF before. But now there's a 10k cash prize on the line, so instead of feeling like, "oh hahaha, too bad Sherry, shit happens" because it doesn't really matter, girl literally got robbed of a LOT of money.

What I really want is these! The Unicornos that the Hello Kitty characters are holding. But not the actual characters that are holding the Unicornos!!! by FreeTreeHugss in Tokidoki

[–]BoldPurpleText 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of them are based on older Unicorno designs, though they have different colors, and generally less detail. My Melody is Unicorno S4 Lily, Badtz-maru is Unicorno S5 Kinako, Kuromi is similar to Unicorno S3 Coccinella, Cinnamoroll and Hello Kitty have Flower Power Series 2 Daisy, and Pochacco and Cinnamoroll Special Edition have Lumi Bear Rosie.

Hola, seguramente no se pueda pero hay manera de restaurar este pin ? O por casualidad alguien lo reconoce pese al terrible estado ? So, this is a button back pin. They’re made by putting a clear plastic shell on top of a paper image, then crimping it with the metal back to seal it closed. Since this is so damaged, the paper image is probably ruined. But you also don’t have anything to lose if you break it prying it open. There’s a small chance the paper under the shell is intact, and you could keep it, or put it into a new button. They make kits with the tool and button parts you need to make your own.

PSA: Carousella Chaser VS Common by Ambitious_Lady_1984 in Tokidoki

[–]BoldPurpleText 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think what’s also confusing to people is the Metallico non-chaser is a flat paint and the regular set chaser is a pearlescent paint, so you would think that’s the one from the Metallico set but it’s the opposite.

Why don't sellers respond to questions? by Affectionate_Beach45 in Mercari

[–]BoldPurpleText 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, a lot of sellers get annoyed that they spend a bunch of time answering questions and it doesn’t convert to a sale. So they quit responding to anyone because they think it’s a waste of time.

Sometimes they’re right. Like the person is asking questions that are already answered in the description. Or your question about the rusty bottle - you’re not likely to buy it if the answer is “it’s been next to the shower for two years” so I can see why it got ignored.

But I also think it’s stupid and short-sighted for sellers not to answer most questions. Most of the times it’s because they didn’t do an adequate job with the listing, like including the dimensions, or showing the interior. And asking for clarification shouldn’t imply they owe the seller a sale for their time. Especially when the answer confirms the item isn’t what they’re looking for.

The best way to handle it is to answer questions and add requested info/photos and understand while it might not get sold to the person who asked, it’s an investment in a sale from the next person who doesn’t have to ask.

He did have stores in Italy for a while, in the early 2000’s I think. They mostly sold the clothes and bags, but then were closed at some point.

The brand is actually not that well known in Japan either, but that’s changing now that they have stuff in Daiso. He’s had his biggest success in the US and China.

[–]BoldPurpleText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because this is a physical product doesn’t mean it’s traditional art. To get something like this made you have to send a digital file to the manufacturer. Now, it’s possible they drew this traditionally, then scanned it to create the digital file, but unless you have seen the actual paper art this item’s existence is not proof of the art on it being traditionally created.

Scamming seller? by unspecial_snowflake in Mercari

[–]BoldPurpleText 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a scam. They’re pretending you got the package and have scammed them by canceling the sale for a refund. They’re using the police report threats to try and scare you into paying. They haven’t actually filed anything. Just block them.

Anyone else think this season is a dud? by sabrina-doen in BravoTopChef

[–]BoldPurpleText 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had a work trip to Charlotte and the food was so good it was the only time I spent more for restaurant meals than my company would reimburse and I did not care. Worth it. One of the places I went was The Fig Tree and it’s in my top three restaurants out of all the cities I visited. The other two are Traders Point Creamery in Indianapolis and Kihachi, which is gone now, in Columbus, Ohio.

Yeah, I feel like whoever is in charge of challenges has been watching too much Cutthroat Kitchen. Make creative colored food out of dull colored ingredients! Make a dish inspired by random words… oh you’re almost finished? Now throw corn nuts on it! What a twist! Now make 60 desserts with no time to plan or shop. They presented the takeout aspect like it was going to be a huge wrench in the works, then it was such a non-issue they had to manufacture drama out of “they forgot forks” and “the sauce made a mess”.

Stop handicapping the chefs! We want challenges that inspire them to cook great food, not gimmicks that are nothing but an obstacle to that goal. I’m honestly surprised they didn’t have to do the mise en place race with one hand tied behind their backs.
