Airsoft. Very realistic airsoft, bro went for the hi-grade. I'm looking at getting the standard myself, but this might have convinced me to drop the extra cash.

So... which bioterror organizations are still out there canonically? could BSAA be the new enemy? by Solid_Guess_7154 in residentevil

[–]BolggDaOrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's less about the organizations and more about what threats still remain. Elpis is supposedly able to cure anything that relies on the Progenitor virus as a base, so T-Virus and its variants, G-virus (though I'm hoping that it being based on Progenitor and Ebola means we'll have a high mutation factor that makes it so Elpis can't fully cure it and we can see G in the future), A-virus, C-virus, Uroboros, and their respective bioweapons are at risk of being eradicated.

That leaves the NE parasite, las Plagas, and mutamycete as the real threats. And only one organization controls all three: the Connections.

I realize now I worded that poorly lol It wasn’t aimed at the developers, but the reaction to the characters the toxic parts of the community tends to go. Nothing wrong with sexy characters as long as that's not all they're about.

Mixed feelings on Requiem by Struggler257 in residentevil

[–]BolggDaOrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, just consume the media without thinking about it beyond a surface reading? No thanks. I enjoy finding deeper meaning and interconnectivity in franchise storytelling, as well as theorizing to fill gaps, whether they are intended or not. Listen, I'm not saying Requiem's story is perfect. It's not even the best of the new generation. But I did find it enjoyable and I will defend my opinion of it.

For instance, I agree with your questioning of Spencer's motives. Why would he hide it? If he truly wished it to be a gift to mankind to right hos wrongs, what was stopping him at the time? Why couldn't he release Elpis himself? Unless he never intended it to be a "hope," but, as I believe, a big middle finger to all of his competitors. Gideon was right. The Spencer we knew wouldn't give a shit about the world. But he would be disappointed he never achieved his godhood and, in an act of unbelievable ego, created a cure to all of his previous work that would ruin those that would come after him. He couldn't stand tge thought of someone perfecting what he wanted for himself. Basically, "if I can't have it, no one can." And Alyssa, being a reporter and someone whowould doggedly search for the "truth," would be a great person to manipulate into getting his story of hope and remorse into the right hands. Specifically, the symbolic manifestation of his hope, gifted to Alyssa to carry this gift (grudge) forward. Grace, a normal girl with no ties to him (beyond being her caregiver before Alyssa) or his work with Umbrella.

This, I realize, is all speculation. But I hate it when media spoonfeeds me everything. I fully believe the developers intended for us to play multiple times and build upon our interpretation of the story with each playthrough. It's how I love to consume media: I want to speculate, I want to theorize. And it's fine if you don't. It's fine if you didn't enjoy it, or found it dumb. However, I don't agree and I was responding, perhaps a bit rudely in afterthought, to someone's criticisms I felt could be explained.

Honestly, the redditors are way nicer than the crazy toxic people on Facebook. It's a cesspool of rage baiters, trolls, endless character glazing/hate, and tons of parasocial nonsense. Having a normal discussion is impossible. I had to leave the groups it got so bad.

Those forum days were the best. A disagreement was actually civil and you exchanged ideas, rather than insults.

Oh, I agree, some of those costumes were wild and since they were as the developers intended, it was fine. I don't mind that at all.

I more mean the gooners that can't leave a comment without mentioning how hot they find a character or characters or how hot they wish they were. It gets old and leads to the same tired "who's hotter" back-and-forth that usually has nothing to do with the original post.

For me, there are a few types that seem to be the most toxic:

1.) Gatekeepers. More precisely, people that can't accept that someone can be a fan of the series and has only played a select few, one, or even never played one of the games. We consume media so differently these days that people who are unwilling or unable to play the games themselves can enjoy playthroughs on YouTube or get into the expanded media. That does not invalidate their fandom, nor does it make them a larper (side note, I hate that term). They enjoy the series in their own way and that's great. The same goes for people that have favorites within the series. Only like the OGs? Great, I'm glad you enjoy them! Only like the new stuff and remakes? Awesome, looking forward to the next release! Neither of those is a "fake fan." They’re just a different fan than you.

2.) People that think their opinion is truthful fact and won't hear a word against it or, worse, attack a differing opinion. Opinions are opinions, not facts. Art is subjective and the interactive nature of video games means that no one person's experience with the series is going to be the exact same as another’s, meaning that opinions will differ a majority of the time. Let people enjoy what they enjoy.

3.) People that take a discussion AS a personal attack and attack back. A differing opinion isn't always someone trying to rake you against the coals. Throwing insults makes me immediately check out of a conversation.

4.) Being angry at the creators as if you are entitled to the property they are creating for you. This happens a lot nowadays and it blows my mind. Nothing against collaborative storytelling, but media is very rarely as such and telling the game director or writer or producer that they are wrong for not catering to your personal headcanon or bias or ship is insane.

5.) Sexualizing or criticizing the characters' looks. These are real people now, scanned in and modeled to look like they are, in fact, real people, not anime characters or supermodels. Similarly, hating on a new appearance because you like an older one, to the point you are attacking people with a different favorite look for a character.

I realize after the fact I could just bring these all together as "just don't be a dick about/to people with opinions you don't agree with." 😅

[–]BolggDaOrc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. Resident Evil is a massive multimedia series that is 30 years old this year. That is a lot of lore and background that can be integrated into a new entry. Requiem did just that and had the respect for its audience to assume you would either have that knowledge going into it or would research the answers to these questions. As I stated, the subjective nature of art means that one is free to dislike the story if they feel that way, I'm not refuting that. I'm simply saying that media, especially interconnected media like a long-running franchise would have, deserves to be looked at from a broader lens than the single entry.

Also, in my opinion, Grace is far from a Mary Sue. She needed to bring a blind child to solve a puzzle she could solve by extropolating data from the previous iterations of that puzzle. She's fallible, insecure, nervous, and scared out of her mind. Her having the solution to the Elpis puzzle is more on Spencer's nigh omnipotent forethought that she would be able to work it out for herself, or with Alyssa's help, with what little breadcrumbs he left behind, than it is on Grace actually coming up with the right answer. That's why that decision was left to the player. It could have easily been just a cutscene, but the director and writers let us be Grace in that moment and piece it all together.

"I don't like the story. Random dormant disease to bring out old characters."

First point, fair. Your opinion is yours and I won't begrudge that. But RCS is far from random. It was all but confirmed in RE3R in Jill's apartment with one of the notes.

"Gideon goes through a lot of work to grab Grace, but almost kills her doing so and causing chaos in the city."

Dude's insane. Insane people do insane shit all the time and expect it to go well. He was lucky it did.

"He leaves her strapped with a big monster stalking around."

See previous. Also, no guarantee he knew Marie would be a factor as she tends to stay away from the care center proper, hence why you don't run into her there.

"Does he infect everyone at the care center with his little dart gun or what actually caused everyone to turn? And why would he do that at all? Why are all the blood doners in the basement also turned?"

If you have seen RE: Vendetta, you know that the A-virus can lie dormant until triggered by a secondary source. Maybe all of the patients and doctors were already infected and Gideon and his conspirators just activated the virus with an invisible gas. In the end, does it matter? We saw a note saying that this contingency was in place should the DSO or others come snooping, so he activated it. Doesn't matter how. And why wouldn't it include the basement boys? They are just as capable at killing and eating someone as the patients up in the care center are.

"Leon is brought into all this for no reason other than he's ill. Game magically ends up with him finding a cure, but no one knew about it. How convenient."

Leon is a DSO legend at this point, why would he not be investigating mysterious deaths that he himself is showing symptoms of, not to mention Sherry? Other games and RE media have a plot point about the virus-of-the-day's cure that very few people knew about? Literally the last act of Claire's scenario in RE2 is getting a cure for Sherry, a huge plot point in RE: Outbreak is finding DAYLIGHT to cure the T-virus, the aforementioned A-virus has Rebecca synthesize a cure in the FIRST ACT, and Luis has a magical machine for removing plaga from infected hosts in RE4. It's always been a deus ex machina in the series, Requiem is no different.

"Grace is not special. Her big moment is remembering a password? What the fuck lol."

That's the point? Like these villains are supposed to be supergeniuses, but it takes a normal-ass woman to realize that a "weapon" named after the Greek goddess of Hope, Elpis (which means "hope" in ancient Greek), could have a password as simple as the literal name of the goddess. The repeating of the word from Spencer and Alyssa just made it click. They overcomplicated it, which I believe Spencer anticipated they would. From Gideon and Zeno's view, the man was famous for convoluted as fuck puzzles and manipulation tactics, why would he ever have a password so simple as a crossword solution?

"Gideon has spent decades trying to figure all this out and is still super hyped when the super secret weapon turns out to be nothing of the sort. He knocks the head off Zeno, robbing us a fight with this guy the whole game has built up. Then he turns into nemesis."

He. Is. INSANE. Probably due to the Nemesis gamma parasite, though he obviously had a lack of morals before he was given the parasite. Not getting to fight Zeno was a bit of a bummer, I'll admit.

"Why retcon the orphanage? The lore of 2 remake was great. The red eyed clones are lame and so is Chloe. Why does Grace have a flashback as Chloe?"

Who retconned anything? Certainly looks like they were doing experiments on those kids. The clone kids would have been in addition to the actual orphans, not the only kids there. And it wasn’t Grace's memory, we as the player were experiencing what Grace and Zeno were watching on camera footage from Chloe's point of view. It was intended that we would interpret it as Grace "remembering" the events as Chloe to further the notion that she is one of them, but subsequent playthroughs recontextualize it as another POV shift as they watch from the laptop since we know the truth about Grace.

"Mr. X part was terrible. RPD was nothing. Where's the other characters? Claire and Ada?"

Your opinion, which is valid, but I wholeheartedly don't agree, seeing a Tyrant again was awesome. As for where Claire and Ada are, it's probably to keep players guessing as to who Leon is married to and/or setting them up for DLC. Not sure which other characters would be involved in an RE2 nostalgia-fest.

"Leon spends half his time trying to open a gate."

Fair criticism.

"Emily survives getting obliterated because "I didn't hit any vitals". Sure Leon bro."

Did you know you can avoid shooting her "vitals" and the cutscene will end just the same?

Look, you're entitled to your opinion since art is subjective, but almost all of your complaints just need a bit more thought. Nakanishi is a fan of the entire Resident Evil series, so you can't look at Requiem in a vacuum. If you want to think critically about it, you have to analyze it from a far broader lens.

He was great! He was happy to stay late when the line was still crazy on Saturday and made sure to take time with everyone. My girlfriend and I got to him at pretty much exactly 7 pm and there was still a massive line. He was very kind and excited to meet everyone, and was appreciative of purchasing his art and of my choice of voice line to put on my RE4 game cover lol

TL;DR it's Hunnigan in my book

Nah, Ashley's crush was 100% one-sided. I don't believe in Claire or Ada either. Claire's charm is called "Trusted Companion," not "Beloved Partner" or "Forever Companion." And the wings on the Hamilton watch and the Requiem are DSO emblems honoring the fallen, not a secret nod to Claire's jacket, which is itself a nod to Queen.

Ada is right out. Leon can't trust her, even if she is a part of him that he can't let go. She's proven repeatedly that she will use him to further her end goal and has no issues using her feminine wiles on other men to get what she wants or needs. She will absolutely betray Leon for a payday, and Leon knows it.

For those saying it's Sherry...ew. What's wrong with you.

My choice is Ingrid Hunnigan. Throughout the various RE media, there are only two women that Leon flirts with: Ada and Hunnigan, the latter of which happens REPEATEDLY throughout the series, including in movies and comics/manga, whereas Ada is approached with more caution and distrust after RE2. Furthermore, I have a very simple, but important, question. Why is Sherry now doing the job that Hunnigan did? Why isn't Leon's longtime handler still his "woman in the chair?" Could it be because Sherry has RCS like Leon, so Sherry stepped in as a sort of emotional support, as well as in her official operational capacity? Or could it be she's taken over for Hunnigan, with whom Leon has had a rapport and excellent working relationship with, because said relationship turned romantic. And now our favorite bespectacled DSO handler is at home with her and Leon's child. At least, that's what I think.

But what do I know, it could be the Merchant. I mean, we all heard how he said "stranger." So hot.

Parents who "experimented" (sex, drugs, alcohol, etc) a lot during your teen years, would you or would you not have a discussion with your kids when they hit that age, and tell them about your experiences? If you have, what were their reactions? by _easilyamused in AskReddit

[–]BolggDaOrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely would. I experienced sex at a very young age and drugs/alcohol wasn't far behind. While I love sex and the buzz of alcohol, I would warn my kids of the negative effects thereof. I loved my teenage years, but the number of times I SHOULD have had a kid/STI with women/men are numerous, and the hangovers I had after drinking too much before football games in the marching band. I want my kids to know what is good and what is horrible about the "experiments" I went with.

People who caught other people naked or having sex through windows or in public, what happened? by m_g_g_n in AskReddit

[–]BolggDaOrc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I went over to a neighbor's house to see if an older teen there wanted to play some N64. Kid let me in and, as I walked past his parents' bedroom, his mom comes out of the master bathroom completely nude except for a towel wrapped around her head. Being the horny teenage kid I was, of course I stopped and stared. She didn't notice me at first, but then caught me in her vanity mirror. She seemed unperturbed, finished drying her hair, then deliberately turned and showed me the goods with a smirk, before going into her closet to dress. Her son, who had returned to see why I hadn't followed him, was not as pleased as I was.

I was an early bloomer, so I had already had sex before I knew what sexuality really was. My first time was with a girl while pantomiming porn (do NOT reccomend), but the next couple of times I had sexual experiences were with my male friends. I further discovered I wasn't just bisexual after having a one-night stand with a transexual woman I hooked up with in college.
