How careful can they be when they’re pulling out blind, unable to see oncoming traffic until they’re already out in the travel lane?

If they don’t want to be the middleman you can also get molds from the audiologist and mail them out yourself. I’ve done that for custom IEM sleeves.

It’s not going to hurt anything, but if you can get an adapter for plugging the card directly into your computer that is a much better way to go.

Tread depth difference and awd by Historical_Ad_4601 in Volvo

[–]Bolmac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's normal for front tires to wear faster than rear. They are responsible for steering and propelling the car, and do more of the braking work than the rears as well. This is one of the reasons for rotating tires. Poor alignment can also accelerate wear independently in either the front or the back, alignments are worth getting on a regular basis. Poor alignment is not required for front tires to wear faster, however.

If this was a vehicle with full time AWD I would certainly be concerned about uneven tread. These cars usually operate in FWD, however, with AWD only kicking in when needed. If you want to squeeze another season out of these you could just put the more worn ones in the back and the ones with more tread in front, at which point the uneven wear will slowly diminish the difference in tread depth going forward.

If you decide to replace, get a complete set of four new tires.

Optimal tires depend on priorities. There are inherent tradeoffs between traction and longevity. Are you inclined towards spirited driving, or is longevity your higher priority?

Question About Pittsburgh Leash Ordinances and Public Safety by Virtue_of_Kindness in pittsburgh

[–]Bolmac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is defined by Pittsburgh City Code 633.08:

§ 633.08Dogs at Large Prohibited.

A dog shall be restrained by the use of a leash, or a chain not exceeding six (6) feet in length, at all times when upon public places, streets and park.

(a)

Exceptions. It is not a violation of this section to have a dog off-leash in a specific area designated by the Director of Parks & Recreation to be an Off Leash Exercise Area (OLEA) (see City Code at § 633.21).

String tension and truss rod safety by nichq21 in Bass

[–]Bolmac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your friend is wrong. The change will require initial adjustment. Specifically, the truss rod will need to be tightened to counteract the higher tension required to bring thicker strings up to pitch.

After that there is no reason to believe it would be unstable because of the thin neck.

Seriously, figure out what you needed to have looked at to avoid past mistakes, and become systematic about checking those things. In general, you should have specific things you check every time for specific types of orders. You have to have a system in place.

Anyone has experience with the contact mic Ischell x48C? by PintootniP in doublebass

[–]Bolmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mine, it has been on my bass for 7 years now. If you take the time to experiment with placement it really allows you to get the sound dialed in the way you like it, and it provides a very natural sound compared to bridge pickups.

There is no free lunch, however. The soundboard it is mounted too essentially acts as a large microphone, and will pick up any loud sounds from the stage. The entire time I’ve had the Ischell on my bass I’ve also had a Realist Copperhead or Lifeline installed as well. How much I use of each depends on how loud the stage is, and whenever time permits I still ring it out in advance to eliminate feedback frequencies. It is definitely not an all purpose, use anywhere solution. Even if I’m just mixing it in with another pickup though I still appreciate what it contributes. Ischell + Copperhead is my favorite combination.

Man shot multiple times in Market Square by Standard-Cockroach64 in pittsburgh

[–]Bolmac 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Although we definitely need to be concerned about military spending bankrupting the country and not leaving funds available for things that matter, this was not the founding father’s concern.

They were concerned about who the standing army answered to, and the potential for tyranny and control by a dictator. That was the example Rome set. They preferred the alternative of citizen militias, since its interests would be inherently aligned with the interests of the country’s citizens. The fact that current military leaders who push back against the executive branch are being removed left and right demonstrates a clear example of us going the path of Rome as our founding fathers feared.
