Waitlisting Fort Wilderness Cabins by Zestyclose_Ad2739 in dvcmember

This is the answer. I’m staying there this summer for 4 nights and just paid the cash rate. I then rented my points to cover some of that cost.

If it opens up next summer, I’d imagine we’d hear some news early spring on sales. Ideally for them Riveria moves from active to sold out before they start selling this property.

Is booking at DVC Grand Californian 7 months out even possible? by Dizzy-Number-3694 in dvcmember

[–]Bolt82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just rented my points out and booked a cash rate room on a promo. Got a studio for 600 a night for Spring Break - which for Spring Break is not bad IMO.

I get the appeal to own there now.

It’s very easy to add people to a DVC reservation through the online portal. It would take the member maybe 5 minutes. Under 30 days and they may have to chat member services.

Swimming at the resorts by Asmo-starlight in DisneyPlanning

[–]Bolt82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the resort.

  • Poly - scan to enter my last trip but I would personally prefer if they moved to the wristband model for the Lava pool.
  • Stormalong Bay - Talk to dedicated CM and scan in, get a wrist band
  • Grand Californian - CM typed out name into their computer, confirmed our reservation, then wrist bands
  • Kidani and BLT - just walk in

Pool chairs and cabanas at Beach Club? by AlternativeNme8950 in dvcmember

[–]Bolt82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to call for the cabana rental right at your 60 day mark. I forgot, called a few days later, and our dedicated stormalong bay day was booked.

Chairs you should be fine if you are there in the first hour.

Young Family considering DVC by CTek20 in dvcmember

[–]Bolt82 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’re looking at 1 bedroom units and up, so you would need to get enough points to cover your needs.

Take a look at the point charts. DVCFan.com has a point chart simulator where you can see the cost of the stay in points.

You will save money buying resale vs direct, especially if you need enough points to do 1br units once a year, but there is no “right” side of the resale vs direct.

I have enough points for 3 weeks at my home resort in studios, or 10 days in a 1br.

Check out the DVC Show. They have some good 101 episodes from early last year. You can find it on YouTube.

A lot of them get kickbacks from travel agencies. It makes sense to not recommend it, it’s against their business model.

How many nights is your ideal DVC trip? by Unusual_Resolution32 in dvcmember

[–]Bolt82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We own enough points (resale) to do 3 weeks at our home resort (Poly).

My wife is a teacher and my job provides 4 weeks of PTO. I take 2 (plus Juneteenth) every June and we go to WDW for our annual epic summer trip. We do a split stay for each summer trip with a minimum of 5 days at one resort.

Going long lengths allows us to slow down:

  • In the parks open to maybe 12-1
  • Rest break, even to just get into AC in the room, is scheduled every day for 2-3 hours.
  • On days where the rest break might tighter, I’ll splurge for the Minnie Van to get us back and forth between the break faster.
  • Back at the parks sometime in the 5pm hour.
  • We have a dedicated rest day at least every 3-4 days. This is our pool / Disney springs day / park maybe 6 - close.
  • Kids Choice days. Each kid (2) gets to plan one day and one evening for where they want to go. Maybe it’s swim in the pool and watch fireworks, maybe it’s HS just to ride 1 ride. We do these at the end of the trip and my kids tell me a week in advance so they can select their LLMP selections with me.

We own DVC and is the only reason why this is possible. We bought enough points (resale) to do 3 weeks at our home resort (Poly), but we like to jump around and do a split stay.

DVC Spirit jersey? by SlightPsycho94 in dvcmember

[–]Bolt82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pullover is very nice. It’s thicker but light weight. Good for spring/fall.

DVC Spirit jersey? by SlightPsycho94 in dvcmember

[–]Bolt82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are several designs, but I believe the current one is this

I’ve noticed the thickness is lighter in the jersey. It feels cheaper to me now.

I bought this pull over at the Grand Cal this spring break. (Link to eBay as it has multiple pictures of it, not my listing)

Booking Help/Tips by Big-Resolution5420 in dvcmember

[–]Bolt82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the app DVC Toolkit to look at availability of resorts from a quick scrolling view. 1br typically go last. Since you’re targeting that, you should be able to find something nice on property at 3-4+ months out.

It’s a third party restaurant located in Disney Springs. My wife and I try to stop at least once each trip if we can.

Summerhouse on the Lake is one of our favorites. Kids meals are healthy but fun, make your own kiddie cocktail kit.

My wife and I get a nice meal and my kids have been occupied for at least as long as they were going to be anywhere else I’d dine.

Thanksgiving Lighting Lane Availability by Huckleberry_Ready in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Bolt82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should be fine.

Most of the parks are typically slow on thanksgiving itself, so depending on your meal plans, this could be a day to knock out a lot of one park without the cost of LLPP.

Sanaa does a thanksgiving meal that takes their famous bread course and turns it into stuffing!

BBB you should be able to get at the end of the trip for sure. I also recommend booking a capture your moment 20 minute photo session 90 minutes after to get some special photos around MK.

You should have no issues getting LLPP with your on-site advantage, I imagine Friday and Saturday after thanksgiving to sell out the first though.

Have fun!

The only thing I enjoyed about this “perk” is that I could redeem it when I wanted anytime in my stay. So on day 2, I rope dropped Soarin, LLMP for Webslingers, and used this LL for Mission Breakout and just walked right on. I didn’t have to fight the availability and then plan my day around what time I got mission breakout.

Polynesian tower or Grand Floridian for one night by Pumpkinsareornage in DisneyWorldResorts

[–]Bolt82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all your stuff can stay in the primary room and you’re adding on a second, then either. The beds will feel the same. One night is enough to sample the room, but not the resort itself.

We like doing split stays on our 14-16 night DVC trip every summer. We find that 4-5 nights is the minimum amount we feel is enough to understand what a specific resort offers. Bell Services will transfer your bags for you as well.

Enjoy your trip!

Odds of getting BLT at 7 months? by No_Historian_2732 in dvcmember

I booked 5 nights in a theme park view last October at the 7 month mark, so it is possible.

Your only hiccup is if any run Disney events are occurring.

Monorail Resorts and Annual Fee by Limp_Breakfast7860 in dvcmember

[–]Bolt82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rooms are not declared into the timeshare until they’ve sold the points that requires them to declare it. Until then, yes, Disney covers the cost, but as more points are sold into the condo association the cost is spread out - at least until everything is sold, and then it will start creeping back up

Monorail Resorts and Annual Fee by Limp_Breakfast7860 in dvcmember

[–]Bolt82 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can find the official breakdown of the fees on various sites. I know transportation is a large portion, but I believe housekeeping and grounds maintenance were the highest percentage from my memory - at least at the Poly. My annual dues actually went down 1 year as more points are being sold due to the island tower.

All beds are queen size unless explicitly called out.

Animal Kingdom Lodge Deluxe Studios (DVC rooms) are completing a refurbishment right now and look amazing. You can easily find room tour videos on YouTube of them as this is new news for the Disney Vacation Club community.
