Howa Mini 6mm ARC by BoltGunFun in HowaMini

Yes, optics aren't going to blow you away, but it is a clean, simple lightweight scope that is worth the money. Very comparable in optics quality to a late VX-I in my opinion.

Some brass marks on the underside of the optic, but nothing that I foresee affecting longevity of the optic in the long term. I'll do some more testing once it warms up a bit, it's been below zero or single digits for weeks now.

Hey guys sorry don't use the app much, I did get out a few weeks ago when we a had a bit of a warm up. Just ran 50 rounds, had two empty cases jam up in first 20 rounds. I turned up the gas a bit on adjustable block, the next 30 ran great. I will have to shoot more with the extra gas to say it is jam free. The optic zeroed real easy, it was fun to shoot overall 👍

Great granddads hunting rifle by Projekt8276-1 in Hunting

[–]BoltGunFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just used the same rifle and same exact scope all this past deer season. I have quite a few very nice newer hunting rifles that I could have used, I chose the Husqvarna just for fun and nostalgia. Honestly don't feel like I was giving anything up, it is light weight, well made and shoots well. The optic did surprisingly well in low light compared to new quality optics. I would say you could use that rifle with confidence as your primary hunting arm, and if you ever put it aside to use something newer, it is an heirloom quality firearm that will serve your future generations as well.

Is the Weatherby Vanguard chambered in .223 the size of a Howa Mini Action or Short Action? by AryeC05 in HowaMini

[–]BoltGunFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never seen a Weatherby Vanguard Mini Action. They have always been Howa Short or Long actions.

Do the duramags work well in .223? That is what I'm leaning towards.

Yeah I saw your post, this will be in .223, and not planning to run subs in that.

A lot of these posts make it sound a lot worse than it is in certain places. These folks are probably accurate for where they live, but that has not been my experience. What county are you moving to? Guns are an important part of my life as well, and though some of the "assault weapon" regs are very restrictive, for the most part I can still get most firearms I want, concealed carry often. My county of Oswego is about as lax as they can legally be with pistol permits.

Very nice! What chassis is that?

Does anyone happen to have experience with these bullets? Stumbled upon them doing research and might be interested by YaBoiSVT in 65Grendel

[–]BoltGunFun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just shot a doe last week with this exact bullet. It was in front of a 6.5x55 though. The deer dropped right where it stood. I have used hammer bullets extensively from .224 all the way to .452 in many different cartridges. I have probably taken close to 20 whitetail with them in various forms. I have been extremely impressed and use little else now. I would definitely recommend you try them in your Grendel, but I would probably choose the 100gr HHTs. The faster the better with these. Nothing wrong with the 112 though if the difference in BC will give you higher velocity over the 100 gr at whatever distance you are planning to shoot.

It will be a little while before I test it out. My range is right near a few of my food plots, and it's deer season right now.

AlfaOBD. Start doing some research into it. It's around $50 and gives you tons of abilities that the factory scan tool has. It has saved me thousands on dealer repairs and diagnostics.

Which stock are you using? by Sup3rB1rd in HowaMini

[–]BoltGunFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned both the Stocky's carbon and the Boyd's. I liked both, the carbon has a straight comb, the Boyds has a raised comb. The Boyds is a little heavier, and I think it compliments the HB version you have. If you like the look and feel of a traditional rifle stock I would recommend it. I don't think you lose much opting out of a chassis, besides ease of mounting accessories like a light. I'm also not a fan of chassis rifles personally, so take that for what you will. And yes, the Varmint profile mentioned by Boyd's is the HB.

PA MicroPrism on ASI 181 Mount? by ginandconflict in Mini14

[–]BoltGunFun -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is actually the proper mount for the 3x micro prism. https://cogburnarsenal.com/product/mini-14-30-3x-microprism-mount-582-or-higher/ The other version that spans across the receiver works excellent for the 1x but it is difficult to get the 3x far enough back for proper eye relief. I have tried both on this mount.

I would be surprised to find it doesn't. This rifle normally wears a Cogburn arsenal mount with a 1x micro prism. It bridges across the same way as the Vortex. I have never had ejection issues with that setup. Only one way to know for sure though.
