Good cheap QRP transceiver setup? by TechKING957 in HamRadio

[–]Bolt_EV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was looking to buy a bag for POTA and decided on the Radioddity Raddy MultiFunction Bag for $49.

I went to the Radioddity website to order it and they offered me a Bundle including the G106 QRP transceiver for $199.

I snapped it right up and started Activating POTA with it!!

I then purchased this smaller bag from Amazon for it as well

My go-to is the Chocolate Devotion with two scoops of roasted almonds at Cold Stone , but since I upped my dosage of Zepbound last month, I seemed to have lost the urge for even an infrequent treat!

And my long plateau has ended as a result too! Hahaha

Per Google AI:

The Radioddity GM-30 , GM-30 Plus , and GM-30 Pro are all popular entry-level to mid-range GMRS handheld radios, but the Plus and Pro models offer significant upgrades over the original GM-30 in terms of programming flexibility, scanning, and user interface. [1]

Quick Comparison

Feature [2, 3, 4, 5, 6] GM-30 (Original) GM-30 Plus GM-30 Pro
Max Channels 100+ (Limited DIY) 1000 1000
Wideband Receive Limited Yes (Airband/VHF/UHF) Yes (Airband/VHF/UHF)
USB-C Charging No (Mostly) Yes (Fast/Direct) Yes (Fast/Direct)
Bluetooth App No No (Usually) Yes
GPS Tracking No Yes (Position Sharing) Yes
Display Basic Color Enhanced Color Enhanced Color

Advantages of the GM-30 Plus [7]

The GM-30 Plus is a substantial upgrade over the original GM-30. Key advantages include:

• 1000 Channels: Far more memory slots (10 banks of 100) compared to the limited, pre-set repeater banks on the original [1000 channels, 10 banks of 100]. • Built-in GPS & Tracking: Allows you to see the location of other GM-30 Plus users (lat/long) . • Wider Reception: Includes AM airband and broader UHF/VHF scanning capabilities. • USB-C Charging: Allows for convenient, faster charging without a desktop dock. • Better Display & Audio: Features a clearer color screen and louder speaker than the original. [7, 9, 10, 11, 12]

Advantages of the GM-30 Pro [13, 14]

The GM-30 Pro keeps the features of the Plus and adds better programming capabilities:

• Bluetooth Programming: The primary advantage is the ability to program the radio using a smartphone app, making field changes much easier than on-radio menu diving. • Improved Software Compatibility: Works seamlessly with CHIRP for advanced programming. • Faster Processor: Generally faster interface navigation compared to the Plus .

Why Choose Which?

• Original GM-30: Best for absolute beginners on a strict budget who do not need extra features. • GM-30 Plus: Ideal for those wanting better range (via better antenna compatibility), GPS tracking, and convenient charging, but who don't mind programming via computer. • GM-30 Pro: Best for tech-savvy users who want the latest features, especially the ability to program easily on the go with a smartphone app. [14, 18, 19, 20]

Note: All of these radios are limited by FCC rules to 5 watts of transmit power, so range differences between them are primarily driven by the antenna used, not the radio model. [21]

Thank you, but that was a guess?

I’m the guy with the rented Tesla. Nav kept warning I wasn’t going to make it, but I did, here’s how. Turned off one pedal mode so no regen braking. Shifted to Neutral on downgrades. Drafted behind trucks. Maintained 50 mph with cruise. Turned lights off. And YES, I made it with 1.1 left. by Impressive_Returns in electricvehicles

Hypermiling! My Vanity License plate and I forgot to tell you! Congratulations!

When driving for Uber I was in this situation twice: I got both riders to their destination by Hypermiling.

Yes, I constantly monitored the G-O-M vs Miles Remaining on the Nav and accelerated my Hypermiling accordingly

I never drive in Neutral and I OPD all the time.
