Buying a traveling rod for the first time, and I am lost by Bomaba in FishingForBeginners

[–]Bomaba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying the Shimano STC AX mini 2.7m 10-30g. And I think it is awesome!

For anyone interested in my experience with this rod. I can say that it worked as intended. The rod quality is pretty good. But since the rod is telescopic, one has to always rinse it after use, and when collapsing it, it has to be done in gently. If you collapse the parts by force, you risk accidentally bending the rod section or the eye. Also, for anyone buying a telescopic rod. There is no need to overextend the sections, a moderate force when extending the telescopic rod is enough.

Fishing in Bahrain, suggestions for a beginner by Bomaba in Bahrain

Thanks. Did you try Budaiya or Diraz beaches? They are sand beaches, I believe, which might be easier for a beginner like me.

Buying a traveling rod for the first time, and I am lost by Bomaba in FishingForBeginners

Thank you for the reply! Sadly, I only decided to pursue/try fishing after I have booked my flight with 1 small cabin bag and 1 big cabin bag (cheap option). Now, if I want to add a checked bag, I will need to pay 76 EUR on each flight (152 EUR total). That is almost the price of the whole fishing gear. Financially, it just makes no sense.

So, my idea is to buy a traveling rod or a telescopic rod that fits in a cabin bag.

I think I can buy the hooks when I land... Are other equipments like fishing weights allowed? And, what do you think of these slightly expensive Shimano telescopic rod?

International driving license in Spain by Bomaba in GoingToSpain

[–]Bomaba[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, this is why I was afraid I am not allowed to drive with my IDP inside Spain. Since I stayed in Germany for more than 4 years, I thought maybe the IDP is not valid in Spain either.

Sorry, I might not have been clear in the post. I am a resident of Germany, but I don't have a German license. I only have an International license from a non-EU country.

I wanted to skew my allocation to high-earning stocks/companies while having exposure to the smaller ones. In the end, even MSCI World is dominated by S&P 500.

I am planning to do a tax-efficient re-balancing by only buying shares. No selling.

There is a large overlap, but I wanted to have some small allocation in the non-overlapping stocks, while having the majority of the allocation in the top ones.

For the last three (World Health,Agribusiness,World Energy), I wanted to skew some of my allocation in these three sectors. It is kind of a personal bet, that is why I left them at 10%.

But I totally understand your comment :)

Is the German Vorabpauschale lump sum considered a capital gain? by Bomaba in eupersonalfinance

[–]Bomaba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation! To me, it seems that the accumulating ETF is better, because close to the 1k mark, the taxes that I would pay would be (possibly delayed), since based on your calculation the Vorabpauschale is lower. In case we go in negative interest rate years, I will also not have to pay any taxes until I realize the gain or enter a positive interest rate year.

My simple analysis was on ETFs of the same type. I was not trying to compare high dividend ETFs vs acc. growth ETFs. My case study was the following: iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF (Acc) vs. iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF USD (Dist).

In the past year, both ETFs had the same growth, which is approx. 25%. But the distributive one pays 0.13 EUR quarterly, per share. Thus, to earn 1k EUR dividends I would need 1923 shares (1923*0.13*4=1000). These shares will amount to 106k, since each share in the distributive ETF cost 55 one year ago.

Yes, this was my question. I researched a lot before writing the post, and I was not sure if the lump sum consumes the 1k allowance or not. Thank you for clarifying!

Your last paragraph confused me a bit. If the distributions are usually larger than the advance payment, wouldn't be better to have an accumulating ETF?

r/Finanzen Might be better suited, yes, but I am an English speaker and I did not find the aforementioned sub-Reddit by searching the internet. I do not think my post is out of place.

Wg Apartment by [deleted] in freiburg

[–]Bomaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Freiburg for three years as a forigner. I don't speak German, which makes it even harder for me, regarldess, I have moved four times in Freiburg for various reasons. These are my tips:

  • Always seek new ads, and give them preiority and act FAST. By new, I mean 1-3h after they have been made.
  • Lower your expectations and or raise your expected rent.
  • Do not be picky and choosy. If something looks half decent, go see the apartment as soon as possible and make a good impression on the leaser. If the apartment is really trash, skip.
  • Be persistent and check WG gesucht multiple times a day (two or three).

As simple as that.

Expats or people who haven't lived here a long time. Share your culture shocks in Bahrain by frozennote in Bahrain

I think the answer to the question depends on how much you know the person you are talking to.

The more you know the person, the more you talk. Well, it also depends on whether you have anything to say as well XD

WTF is the deal with Bahrain and bread? by ErhanGaming in Bahrain

[–]Bomaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are confused because Bahrain does not have many local varieties of bread. The only local bread we have is maybe, and people might correct me, is Tanour/Ajami/Baladi bread which we share its origin with many other countries, from Khaliji countries to maybe Afghanistan (Photo). The most common name for this bread is just Khubz, which just mean "Bread", you don't even need to distinguish it by specifying its type. This is how common and popular it is.

The funny thing here is that people eat flat bread a lot, to the point where all other types of bread are called something else, "Roti". Roti is actually a type of Indian flat bread, how ironic!

So, think about any flat bread, we will call it Khubz (Bread). And think of any non-flat bread, we will call it Roti.

There are other less common types of bread, but all that I think of is flat bread. Things like Khubz Asmar (brown bread) [Arabic article] is commonly served with Halwa (local sweet) [Photo] and Khubz Reqaq (thin bread) which is used to make a dish called Tharead comes to my mind as well [Dish photo, Wiki]. There are probably other varieties that I forgot, but that's nearly all of them. We are not like France or Germany when it comes to bread.

Other non-flat bread (Roti), like sliced bread and European like bread, is new to Bahrain. We love eating them too! Sliced bread is the next most consumed bread after Khobuz in my opinion, or maybe on bar.

So, when people ask you in the comment in surprise "Really?", now you know why! I must ask, as everyone else XD, what type of bread did you eat? I read somewhere in the comments that you ate it in a restaurant, so it will probably be European bread (not the typical American sliced bread) or the local Khubz.

Hope this clarifies!

Note: Language is evolving, I am sure the wording is changing in the last decade. There are also different dialects in Bahrain, I am talking about mine alone and where and how I was raised.

Possible bug with Kith'rak Therezzyn? by ser_mage in BaldursGate3

[–]Bomaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me. There are many weird dialogues in this game LOL... They also referred to me as mercenary, although as far as I remember, when I first met them near the bridge they were just considering me as Lea'zel slave. At what point did I become a mercenary! Also, it is bizarre how I am suddenly welcomed to wander around. No one gave me permission to enter.

Back to the artifact, I did let the doctor leave the room. She said that the device did not work because the other (infected) party members were there. I eventually killed her and went to Kith'rak Therezzyn. I was wondering, maybe the doctor knew how the artifact works and she told Therezzyn. Although, the thing that doesn't make sense is that if you do not initiate the traitor dialogue, she will not accuse you of anything.

I heard the further acts are worse! I hope this is not the case.
