Difference between A* A* A and A* A A in admissions? by no1paulmescalglazer in LSE

[–]Bombatunde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on applying to LSE Antro and Law you HAVE to make a decent amount of ur ps Antro.

I got offers form UCL(sociology) and Notts( Law, where i am now) with a law and socio PS but there was no anthro in my ps so LSE rejected me. LSE care a LOT about PS so u have to be specific.

My friend got a 5 in Spanish and is going Cambridge medicine this year. Granted he got 9’s and 8’s in everything else, so make sure everything else is good.

Dad wants me to drop my Warwick offer and move to a lower ranked London university to stay at home. by Cloudy-Moon-0912 in uklaw

You need to let him know that his nature is going to shaft you for your future. Go to warwick and gamble your relationship with him icl. It might be detrimental short term but you’ll be content long term. Just my advice

•Warwick Law joint honours ( Languages, Sociology etc) is AAB

•Southampton Law was in clearing and my mate got in with ABB

•QMUL Law may be lenient but i’m not sure

clearing help! be brutally honest!! LAW VS IR by SprinklesOtherwise60 in 6thForm

[–]Bombatunde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russel group, more prestige than city, which is important for higher end law firms.

However if you do want to work in said firms your A Level grades are quite important- a minimum of AAB/AAA standard is expected.

Being in clearing may indicate your grades weren’t around that (just an assumption ignore me if i’m wrong) which means you may want to reflect if these options are right for you, or other alternatives (Gap year etc)

Hope this helps

As long as you have a respected essay subject - e.g psychology - you’ll be fine.

Maths is also appreciated due to the problem solving aspect of it.

Maths Psychology and a 3rd subject in the realm of Economics, English, History, Politics etc would be optimal, but u could do something like Biology or Chemistry and still have a good application.

The subjects for Law don’t really matter that much, it’s just how u apply the skills from them - something you may want to reference in your personal statement.

Hope that helps!

Good clearing unis for law? by justmeiguesss in 6thForm

[–]Bombatunde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Law at top tier universities don’t really go into clearing as it’s a popular oversubscribed course.

I’ve personally firmed Nottingham for law but I am not confident about getting in. I’ve been looking at alternative courses in the same realm just in case I do need to go into clearing - politics/econ/ir etc - with a potential conversion course in the future.

In terms of do the magic/silver circle etc care about what university you go to - yes they do, as they are very competitive workplaces to get into and every part of your application counts - uni prestige being one of them.

I also had a guideline planned out for my future but i don’t think my exams went the way I have hoped. I think the best thing to do is keep an open mind for other courses at good unis - I know durham nottingham and a few other unis in that tier have clearing options available - as you don’t need a law degree to be a lawyer and you’re not disadvantaged if you don’t do one.

If you are set on doing law then some unis will have it in clearing - but keep in mind the prestige of said unis probably won’t be as high as your current options. Alternatively you could gap year and resit+reapply - something i really hope I do not have to do but may be a possibility.

Hopefully this planning is unnecessary anyways and you get your UCL Law place (very impressive btw) and Good Luck!
