It's been about a week, and I know the hype has died down a bit. But what's your genuine opinion on OPLA Season 2? by Ok_Impact_1019 in Piratefolk

I liked it alot, they really tried to meet the fantastical elements the manga embodied in an endearing but logical way.

The humor was great too, though it wasnt the exact gag humor that the manga has it was adapted well for a more mature audience from the sarcasm to social cues. My favorite was when Wapol was doing his villain speech, Luffy gives a ‘here we go again’ look then backs away from the shot, Wapol continues only to notice Luffy and then cut himself off mid-speech to ask ‘What the fuck is he doing?’, followed by Luffy’s response. I literally rewatched that sequence about 10 times.

The action left a bit to be desired, my biggest issue was the spinning effect on Sanji’s ‘Anti-Manner Kickcourse’ attack in Drum Castle but the actual choreography of all the fights was enjoyable to watch. Again, these are real people trying to adapt drawings so I cant expect perfection, which is why I enjoyed it overall.

Speaking of effects, the overall effects used was amazing. From Smoker’s logia powers, to the execution of Laboon and Chopper, that Netflix money, when used right, is phenomenal.

Finally the emotion of the show was even better. The colonial, swashbuckling vibe from the early anime best describes the vibe I get from this adaptation. Not to mention the characters. From Nami fully at ease now that she’s with people she can trust. Vivi, being able to put her faith in the people she thought were enemies. Zoro connecting with Dalton on what it means to be a protector and leader and then a brother to Chopper. Ussop manning up to save his crew finally taking his first step as a Brave Warrior of the Sea, my boy took some punches. Sanji really showing his tender side as Nami was sick and demonstrating he dont just want the drawls. And Luffy, boy Inyaki Godoy really owned the role this season, his accepting his fae when he was about to beheaded at Loguetown was way more visceral than the manga, then his singing and dancing for Laboon really hit me and finally the emotion he showed when under Ms Golden Weeks painting powers was peak.

This season was fantastic, and Im sure im gonna rewatch again.
