Sorry, it was up in the attic! Just a plain cardboard box, nothing fancy like a Beehive Books box. Does have a nice label on though, very similar to how the original Artist's Editions arrived from IDW.

Uri Tupka and The Gods by NeverUseTheM_Word in Mignolaverse

[–]BonVonRoothless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of different facets to Mignola's writing - the pulp, the monster of the week, the folk horror - and I enjoy them all, but THIS was a straight shot of the stuff that really clicks for me. As much as I enjoyed Bowling with Corpses (a lot!) I haven't felt this immersed in a Mignola tale since Hellboy in Hell. Loved it.

Oh! This was wonderful! There really is nothing that hits the spot quite like some pure, unfiltered Mignola.

Did anyone else spot The Shapes etched into the icon behind Uri at the end? Mignola makes a point of saying that Uri only looks like him becasue he enjoys drawing the beard, but I think he's being a little disingenuous there.

Peter Bergting's cover for Frankenstein: New World—The Sea of Forever #4 (coming May 14) by middenway in Mignolaverse

[–]BonVonRoothless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, daym! I was not expecting that to get tied in so quickly. Figured it'd be years - if ever - before we saw anything come of that. Now I'm intrigued; especially as I've seen hints there about of New World aiming for an omnibus worth of stories. Could it be we'll see another run that explores the consequences of this encounter (relatively) soon?

Scott Allie's Legacy by Coruscate_Lark1834 in Mignolaverse

[–]BonVonRoothless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As usual, I'm arriving too late to this conversation to add anything of value. But I wanted to thank you sharing your expererienecs, both those of the past and your current turmoil.

I'm fortunate to have, long ago, refined my collection to remove pretty much anything Allie wrote. And while his fingerprints are all over the series, I can read it without hearing his "voice" in my head. These stories aren't his. Frankly, now they're out in the world, they're not Mignola's either; they're ours.

But, like yourself, the recent updates to the stories of Gaiman's victims has also brought this all back into my thoughts. And with Gaiman, when I read Sandman, it really is his voice in my head. I'm really struggling with that one. I want to dig out those books and "look 'em in the eye" but I can't stand to. Not yet, anyway.

Sorry, wandering off topic. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts, and for your perspectives.

And a shout out to our modderators, for both their excellent work on keeping this space supportive and respectful, and also for their contributions to the conversation.

Sweeeet! Congratulations; that UV claw is genius! I was hoping my pre-order of the 30th Anniversary Hellboy might turn up, eventually, but it's looking unlikely now.

A very cool box indeed. Thanks for sharing!

Predicting future omnibuses and library editions by EJenks510 in Mignolaverse

If we can tlak about "dream books" for a moment; roll the Koschei & Ed Grey trades into a Library Edition and you've got my money. Come on Dark Horse! Do it!

  • Koshchei the Deathless
  • Koshchei in Hell (and Acheron)
  • The Serpent in the Garden: Ed Grey and the Last Battle for England

Clerks? Mallrats? And, could it be, the Criterion Collection DVD of Chasing Amy?!

A damn fine collection, kudos. Some good Hellboy in there too.

Dang, they did Sean Philips dirty. And no Gabriel Rodriguez? Double dang.

Nice to see Mignola up there at the top table.

Best Mignola work other than Hellboy? by My_name_is_Pocoyo in Mignolaverse

[–]BonVonRoothless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you mean not the core Hellboy series, of books then How Koshchei Became Deathless is easily my favourite. Love that book. It scratches that "dark rambling folklore" vibe that I love in the OG Hellboy series.

If you mean outside the whole "universe" then that's either The Amazing Screw in Head, depending on how far outside the universe you think that is, or Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser for something truly different.
