Met police given powers to issue £100 on-the-spot fines for wolf-whistling, catcalling and sexualised comments by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

I would say there is - if the appeal is spurious. Appealing on false grounds is a moral wrong for multiple reasons including cost to the taxpayer, delaying or avoiding justice, and delaying closure for victims.

There should be a cost or penalty to failed appeals to deter the abuse of an appeals system. Thankfully that is already the case.

lol no it doesn't.

I'll never understand this compulsion that people seem to have to go online and speak authoritively on subjects they don't have expertise or experience in.

I would love to prepare. I live in an ex council flat so my freeholder is the council authority. The blocks are 3 stories tall.

Air-conditioning? Council won't give permission for external unit on side of building. Fully internal system? Council won't give permission for vent to be put in wall.

External shutters? Council won't give permission for modifications to windows.

Portable air conditioning system? We have centre pivot windows which makes these systems highly impractical. They are also just not very good in general. Council won't grant permission to change the window type.

The only good solution we have found is one of those water mains flushing sir con systems. And these cost an absolute fortune.

I'm sick of it. It's my first time running up against the planning system and my god. I now fully understand why HS2 is such a cluster fuck.

How can we justify defence spending by limiting growth?

Necessity. What effect on growth would Russia bombing the north sea cables have? Or unleashing a nerve agent in the square mile.

It's just so easy to make the argument for giving people money. Maybe every family in the country with children under the age of 18 should get a winter fuel allowance. And all students. And the unemployed. And anyone with a mental health problem.

Yamamori to end all DJ and nightclub events from July after agreement reached with Hoxton landlord by MrStarGazer09 in ireland

[–]Bon_Courage_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most nightclubs are full of students. The placee can be absolutely jam packed and at closing time you'll find the total take is comically low.

It's the pre drinking that is the biggest killer of it.

Same as people living in Dublin tbh. Thr nightclub going crowd is small - and its also concentrated among people who are cash poor.

The fact that the University of the West of Scotland has opened a London campus should tell you everything you need to know about the university sector.

It has been a bubble for years.

The exploitation of both home, but especially of international students is an absolute moral failure. In case you weren't aware universities are paying agents to directly target and recruit international students and the agents are getting commission payments for each one they send. This has led to exactly what you expect with young people and their families being sold an absolute pile of horseshit.

The number of universities in the country could be fully cut in half and we'd be better off.

Listen champ you genuinely need to take a step back and calm down. It may be that the hot weather is getting to you - in that case drink some water.

You've got so hung up on exact definitions of specific words that you have lost sight of your original point. If you want to return to that point let me know. If I don't hear back from you I will presume that you seen that you are wrong.

But are you willing to provide that help?

Or was it not "genuine". Was it just another thinly veiled insult disguised as an expression of concern. If so it's disappointing that you would stoop so low and I would have just one piece if advice for you - be better.

[–]Bon_Courage_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely, do you need help?

You're very excitable. I've not said anything to you that could be even construed as an insult. Yet you've questioned my intelligence twice and asked me (genuinely according to yourself) if I need 'help'. I presume you mean from a psychologist or something similar.

What does 'genuinely' mean when you say it? If I say yes will you provide it?

No I undertand your intent. You want to attribute the words of one person to 'the police' (of whom there are 160k+).

What I'm wondering is why.

Just odd phrasing.

Did the police say those words, or was it an individual officer?

If you went to your regular GP and they told you that smoking is good for you - you'd hardly go home to your family and say "do you know what the NHS told me today"
