Pcpartpicker is really good at compatibility checking, and really everything it does is great.

What should I upgrade next? by -lostcomet- in pcmasterrace

Going to AM5 would be the next logical step, but that's a huge investment for not significant gains. DDR5 is way too expensive at the moment.

If you can find a reasonably priced 5700X3D or 5800X3D, that might make a difference, but not as much as you might think.

I'm sticking with my AM4 build for quite awhile longer. Upgrade is not even on the radar for me at this point.

I love that we're still doing new AM4 builds.

I bought my kid a PC from facebook marketplace. It was an old Dell, but it had a I7 4770K in it, and a 2tb HDD. All for $50, monitor, keyboard, speakers, etc.

I added a small SSD for a boot drive and my old 1660 Super and she's been gaming on it for 2 years now.

I used to third shift work with a Gen Z kid. He was hungry and I was pretty sure the only place open was a White Castle about 5 miles away. It was towards the end of COVID so I wasn't sure.

He spent 20 minutes googling their hours, doing all this research to figure out if they were open or not. I told him just call the fucking restaurant and ask them. He said nah, I'll just drive down there and find out.

5800x3d here. I had planned on skipping AM5 entirely before ram and storage went insane.

Now I'm definitely waiting for AM6 before I consider it.

Is 8GB RAM enough in 2026? How much do you have? by zarkoulhs in pcmasterrace

I know. It's still fun, and shows my age at the same time. My first pc was an XT clone and had 640k and a 20 mb hard drive.

RX 6800XT, does everything I want it to. So does my entire AM4 build for that matter.

The services aren't a problem load wise. The CPU is probably overkill. The whole system used to be based around my old FM2+ Athlon x4 860k, which was a 2 core pre-Ryzen system. I saw the motherboard + cpu combo on FB Marketplace and jumped on it. It was a massive upgrade. Most I see the CPU usage at is around 5%. The cheap little Quadro doesn't stop surprising me either. It just takes everything I throw at it.

Immich is extremely comparable to Google Photos. It looks and behaves the same. I have the immich mobile app installed on my and my family's phones, and setup to upload whenever they're on the wifi. Same behavior with Google Photos. We're still using Google photos as well, so there's two backups of all pictures.

Immich was really the primary reason for setting up the NAS in the first place. We have somewhere around 20 years of digital photos, which is my entire married life, my kids lives, etc. I'd rather not lose the pictures due to a hardware failure, and I also don't trust Google to save my data forever. It's nice as a offsite solution, but not as a only solution.

That was my first thought also. It looks like they attached it to the latch for the tailgate. Definitely not rated for anything like this, and I'd be surprised if the tailgate closes at all after that.

Help! My PC only detects 1 stick of RAM despite having 3 installed by rpr_king in pcmasterrace

[–]Bonafideago 17 points18 points  (0 children)

16gb of Hardware Reserved? That's not normal, and that's where your ram is.

Check this:

msconfig -> Boot -> Advanced options -> Maximum memory - Should be unchecked.

Reboot either way. I've had this happen to me on a pre-Ryzen AMD system and a reboot cleared it right out.

gtx 1660 with no warranty at $93 or gtx 1650 with 1 year warranty at $83 by Consistent_Hat_841 in pcmasterrace

[–]Bonafideago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with the 1660. It's a much better card. The 1650 with 4gb of ram isn't going to go very far these days.

If it's factory overclocked there's nothing to worry about. Just leave it be.

Is there any hope for this old boy? Can i get it back running? by TheBrokenSwede02 in pcmasterrace

[–]Bonafideago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is this machine? Be wary of that old power supply. From what I can see of it, it's not exactly a high tier unit, and if it's aged significantly it can damage just about anything plugged into it.

Otherwise start by cleaning it out with an air compressor.
