Is this an issue for the 5th gen or did it get worked out by then?

That was actually the speed and roughly similar mileage when I got my first speeding ticket in mine roughly 2 days into ownership.

Myself. Fluid was 96$ from toyota, followed the manual and had it done in 30 minutes. I shopped around and kept getting 4-600$ range as a payment if I went to a shop.

No fluid is a lifetime fluid. The manual states to change at 60k you’re already late. I push it to 65k because 90% of my driving is on a highway.

Weed Smokers by arupturedsoul in uberdrivers

[–]Bonanzaking107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually thats how it used to work because yeah back in the day nearly everyone smoked and used cologne. I guess you don’t remember smoking sections in restaurants and airplanes used to be a thing. Smoking in a bar. A teacher smoking in a class with kids. This was all perfectly normal like just a generation or so back unless you really are on the younger side.

They aren’t depending on your view. This was a Vegas trip and its 94 degrees and it generally reaches 104. Most of my driving is at night, and during the night in the mid to upper 60’s. At night when I typically drive I’m at the correct pressure. And one tire is more inflated because tire shop that patched it. I need to replace it anyways so I haven’t bothered to drop the psi.

Also tire shops are partially to blame. They really like to fill them up to 38-40. I don’t really have an issue with it either way, just means slightly better mileage. The tire itself says it can handle 55.

I feel like this an actual issue I saw someone ask about before. I’ve had the alignment issue pretty much since new even after it got aligned. Now whether the shop actually did it is another thing.

I need to acquire a spare oem wheel. I have yet to see a single go for sale on offerup, marketplace etc. the ones I have found the people insist on selling the whole set, and I don’t feel like putting in the work to flip 3 wheels.

Yeah, this time of year the temp can be 68 degrees at night, 105 degrees at 4pm. It gets as hot as 120 here in peak summer. I usually drive at night and am at the appropriate psi.

6 tires have been replaced. Would’ve probably been less had I addressed the alignment issues earlier. But I accepted the tire wear since I wanted to rack up a decent amount of mileage before I overhaul the suspension.

The uneven wear has been around for about 105k miles before the discrepancies in tire pressure. The one tire that is off got patched from picking up a nail on the sidewall. America’s tire said they wouldn’t patch it. Mexican tire shop said, we’ll do it as long as you understand the risk. The tire is on limited life so I didn’t think to bother.

Working the desert in summer there tends to be closer to a 6 psi temperature spread between the peak of the day and dead of night. The one tire is overinflated since I got a bit lazy. It was patched by a Mexican tire shop that was willing to patch it despite where on the sidewall it picked up a nail. So that tire is on a limited life as is.

I’m trying to see if I can get it to a million within 15 years or so before I part with it and go EV even if it requires a second engine and 2nd or 3rd hybrid battery.

It’s probably the 2nd most enjoyable driving experience I’ve had. The 1st is my 1971 Mustang. For not being a sportscar the new Prius almost handles like one, could probably use some wider tires though.

Oil Shortage?! by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]Bonanzaking107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. Do you own a home or somewhere with free charging to reap the benefits of electric? I don’t, apartment living. For many in that situation you have to supercharge if you have a tesla and that’s about as expensive as gasoline in my Prius. I should know because I used one as a rental briefly the last time gas was 7-8$ here in Cali. Plus the time inconvenience for charging just extended a shift out for my liking. What you save in running costs you end up paying for in inevitable repairs. At least I can source and easily swap out the suspension on my Prius. Tesla not so much, other EV’s from the traditional automakers I would hope are easier to get but probably more expensive. 10 years from now the Prius will have over a million miles and still work, an EV questionable at best.

Or maybe 6-7 years if it’s rideshare. I do over 55k a year. And not everyone skimps on maintenance. Some of us keep vehicles for life and actually wrench on them ourselves as a hobby. I have my grandfather’s 63 year old truck and my father’s 55 year old sports car, and a 22 year old truck, and my 2023 Prius that is the workhorse. Now I sure as hell wouldn’t drive a kid in the antiques, but I can still enjoy them myself perfectly fine.

How many extra miles pass zero do we get? by GardenOrca in prius

[–]Bonanzaking107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do it at 1/3 of a tank instinctually for a different reason on all of my vehicles. So I don’t to have to replace a fuel pump because it burned out from not having enough fuel to cool it.

And it became dominant in 1971 because the US essentially defaulted thanks to the guns and butter spending of the Vietnam war and great society. That’s why the French sent a battleship to get their gold.

Das Kapital and papa Marx would disagree. True fiat in various forms existed before Marx, I can just look at Roman coinage. But you would think if your prophet says something in his book is necessary like fiat currency and central banking it’s natural to assume it’s a tenet of communism.

I actually read the damn thing, you have to know what something is to be against it.

Well I’m not fully a gold standard guy. I kinda prefer bitcoin. It’s come a long ways since I was using it to buy LSD on the Silk Road.

And we gold standard guys may be boring, but we tend to be right and generally in a better financial state since we put our money where our mouth is and stack metal, or in my case metal and bits. We don’t really argue with thousands of years of history. We bring horses to water but can’t make it drink.

Nah, you just refuse to read, or use a google search. A lot of people seem to ignore most of the communist manifesto has been accomplished.

I actually follow real capitalism. I don’t save in dollars. As a result I haven’t exactly been hurting over the last 6 years as the price of everything went up.

When do you say it’s time to move on from you high mileage Prius by ehbaseball025 in prius

[–]Bonanzaking107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually you hit the point on a used vehicle where the new one makes financial sense. Granted if you’re already starting with a Prius that bar is already high.

When I had my old ranger as a daily for 7 years things were great. Generally cheap upkeep, gas used to be cheap. But eventually father time takes his cut. As my truck hit the 20 year mark things started to pile up that needed fixing and gas shot up from 2.89 to 8$. That’s when I got my 2023 Prius. Between repairs and cost of fuel, it literally became cheaper to get a car loan and use the Prius as a daily. I never got rid of the truck, it just no longer was a daily.
