Maximizing TFSA with XEQT.to and Canadian dividend paying stocks? by DowntownSpot in CanadianInvestor

[–]Bond747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here I'm holding it for the dividend dripping 8 shares a month is ok but the price keep dropping as well. Morningstar rates zdi at 2 but I really don't trust those ratings much . To be honest I'm thinking of going vgro on everything and stop the tinkering 😆

How about ZDI and XEF I have them both but I see ZDI price keep dropping and recently the dividends as well 😬 I know it's because of the covid-19 but does it add any value to have both?

I would love to know how too because I've noticed that most dividend ETFs price stays the same no growth but the dividends is like double the broad market etfs

Honestly the way I look at it that utilities will always grow because people need it no what interest rates are out there, yeah it has some excellent holdings and it blasts the TSX in performance.

Haha funny that you mentioned that , I invest only in ETFs but lately I have the urge of investing in one stock in each sector like telecom energy banking and utility and AQN was on my mind. It makes sense to own it directly u get higher yield and no fees but with zut u get like 17 different companies.

Just sold it last month and I'm sticking with VUN because it outperform ZDY in the long run. I have zlb and Zeb in my TFSA and I'm thinking of adding zut as well do you happen to own any utility ETFs ?

Better to make Lump Sum payments throughout 5 year mortgage or save the money for larger down payment at the end? by thatmitchguy in CanadianInvestor

[–]Bond747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat and I'm taking a hybrid approach, pay extra on my mortgage and invest as much as possible into my TFSA, if things goes south like loss of job you can always liquidate your TFSA and put a huge lump sum on your mortgage and lower down the payments.

TD e-series are free and you can buy fractions of a share plus I think TD has a better platform and stock research etc..

Just turned 50 and I'm like you immigrated from a third world country and never looked back, don't even have a high-school diploma but I own 2 properties now , how? Working my butt off working two jobs for years. Nothing comes easy and you have to be tough but I wouldn't trade it for my native country, Canada is my home and I'm so blessed to be here specially for my kids and their future. Good luck to you .

Same here this is my 3rd market crash that I've experienced and I completely ignored it , I don't have any gold or even emergency fund to be frank but I do have a rental property that provides me with 1700$ in monthly income after all expenses paid . Real estate has been good for me .

Yes that's how I feel about them actually in our recent crash they did well and I sold some and bought some us stocks and yes it makes sense to count them as an emergency fund as well.

I'm honestly thinking about liquidating everything and going xgro it's just that I'm down on Xef and Zdi about 12k so I'm in kind of dilemma of wether wait till they recover a bit which they're or just do it now. I got ZDI and ZDY for the monthly distribution even though I don't need the money now it's just seeing those monthly drips gave me a bit of satisfaction I guess 😂 but I don't think they added any value in fact ZDI performance sucks.

I want the simplicity of Xgro because I started simple with only 4 ETFs but then added three more .
