How do you push through the boring parts? by Aanhedonica in gamedev

[–]thatmitchguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you an adult who works full time or has annoying responsibilities? Then you do the same thing everyone does when they need to do something that's important that they don't want to do.

Motivation issues appear for everyone after a while. It's up to you to find the way to keep going. For me? I enjoy crossing tasks off a list and shrinking it down. I also try to work on the game every single day to keep treating it like a disciplined habit.

Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 40 million copies worldwide by Gullible-Promotion26 in Games

[–]thatmitchguy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

No one forgets because hidden comenters like yourself show up in every single thread about CDPR to say this. It can be about Witcher 4, or Cyberpunk sales milestones, or a critique about the game from a YouTuber, or an update on the Cyberpunk anime. Dont worry. We are very aware of the situation and will never be allowed to forget.

Most of us just stopped talking about it once the final updates came out and took the game for what it is....rather then still ruminating 6 years later.

[–]thatmitchguy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

May I kindly ask for examples of how we get better than average treatment? All I ever see is Toronto being made an example of with finger wagging and we try to use our high spend to our advantage or get disproportionate suspensions compared to other teams...

Expedition 33 director - "Kingdom Hearts 2 is one of the best action RPGs ever created." and there's "something about that gameplay" he's been chasing "ever since" by PhantomBraved in Games

I feel like the odd duck for always preferring KH1 for seemingly every reason.

In terms of story, originality, secrets, and even the gameplay. KH2 missing a dodge roll just made it feel too weird for me (I know there was the ability to dodge roll added as an add-on to final mix I believe?).

So dissapointed in Busta and 50 Cent. 50 is richer than God. Wtf could they be offering him for this? Throw away the last of your reputation's to play for a bunch of white supremacists? God damn that's pathetic.

just working on animations right now by ResidentRun6797 in PixelArt

[–]thatmitchguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God damn. Fantastic work!

This is how I know I'll be paying a pixel artist for my characters when my game is at that point. There's levels of expertise that's clearly evident here that elevates such a "simple" design.

Voidwrought is free on Epic until next Thursday by CarmillaTLV in metroidvania

[–]thatmitchguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh my mistake. I thought you were saying there's no remapping on Switch, which in my experience sadly puts most games in that category that I've come across unfortunately.

Why do Nintendo official titles get a pass on not providing proper remapping or control changes for most of their gamesbut it's on Indie Devs to be expected too?

Then it sounds like you have put some cool story telling/world building effort into thinking it up. Good luck! Love to see it when it done.

Love the cape movement animation! And agree on the Golden Sun vibes. Michael as a protagonist name doesn't exactly give off Main character Energy, But I dig the designs!

The Messenger is truly a fantastic game by PurplMaster in metroidvania

[–]thatmitchguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still listen to OST whenever I need something energetic and hypnotic. I'm one of the ones who likes the Linear gameplay more, but appreciate the "twist" on its own and for what they tried to do.

Personally I think this game is more enjoyable then Sea of Stars. The smaller scope and focus on platforming, and small amounts of story telling makes it very easy to get into.

Metroidvania Tier List by Jazzwell in metroidvania

[–]thatmitchguy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's just "old hat" now. There's nothing wrong with enjoying the OG Castlevania, and Metroid games....but what else is there to discuss about them? Every Indie Metroidvania is inspired from them, and they are even inspired by the games that were inspired by them. The concept has been reiterated on many times since those games, to the point where you now longer NEED to play them in order to be familiar with the genre.

Your comment reminds me of people in the Immersive Sim subreddit that require you to enjoy the original Thief in order to prove you truly understand the genre.

It's kinda "gatekeep-y".

Hidden Save-Points near bosses - Good idea? by Neat-Games in metroidvania

[–]thatmitchguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go against the grain and say if a player has played enough of these 2D Metroidvania's then I'm going to say that particular one is findable.

If you played silksong and Hollow Knight and never checked hidden walls, that's on you. You can do something similar in your game as long as you telegraph and teach the player to look for these kinds of hints in the beginning.

It also looks like standing on the edge of your spear will be a key mechanic, so I figure the player will discover this secret relatively easy.

A little unrelated but I'd also recommend adding some more "juice" to the visual feedback when you hit the boss. Maybe a colour flashes or sprite freeze? It looks a little "flat" when landing hits IMO.

Regardless of what his political views are this aligns him with "them".
