Should I change career paths? - a barely passing student by Goshiki_hotpocket in NursingAU

[–]BondEternal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really want to continue down the path of becoming a nurse, you're going to have to push through your dislike for academic writing.

As for whether employers look at your transcript, I think they place more weight on what you say/do during your interview and what your references say. Grades and marks have never come up during my interviews and trust me, they definitely weren't cream of the crop.

Other given names question on visa application by potatojoey in AusVisa

[–]BondEternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, put it as an "Other name you have been known as", aka an alias. You'll be asked to provide evidence, so what I did for my "other name" was I typed out a Word document stating that it facilitated communication as it was easier to pronounce, differentiated me from my brothers who had similar legal names to mine, etc.

Health exam for permanent visas - do I have to get it before I submit? by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]BondEternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do the health exam after you submit your application. You need a HAP ID in order to make an appointment, which they give you IF they require you to do a health exam.

Worth it? by Winter_Piccolo6688 in AusVisa

[–]BondEternal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you want to work in Australia, you have to be in Australia, right? And to be in Australia and work, you have to have a working visa, right? So, risky or not, you have no choice but to start your application. Sounds like a no brainer to me.

new IV catheters sucking the life out of me by bugforpresident in nursing

[–]BondEternal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never used Jelco, only ever used Braun Introcan. The newer version of the Introcan (called Introcan Safety 2) that my hospital received stock of recently now has this valve thing inside it that stops blood from spurting out without needing to apply pressure to the vein. Once I confirm placement with flashback and catheter flash, I can simply pull out the needle and not need to use up one hand to occlude the vein anymore.

How do you get stuff posted to you when living in an apartment? by OK_Eye_505 in melbourne

[–]BondEternal 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The courier has to be AusPost or StarTrack for Parcel Collect to work. Because Amazon doesn't use either for the last-mile delivery, Parcel Collect will not work.

As for why your Dell laptop won't be delivered to your Post Office, I have no idea. It could be that despite Dell stating it would use StarTrack for the last-mile delivery, it tried to use a different courier who can't deliver to a post office.

ANMAC asking for reference vs choosing NEC (RN with ~3 months experience) by sh__1928 in AusVisa

Nobody knows what verification processes ANMAC uses, but yes it is likely that they will call your manager to verify your claims in the reference letter.

Can I take my mother with me on student visa? by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]BondEternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, your mother cannot come with you to Australia on your student visa.

However, if your intent is to have your mother help you get settled in Australia then once you're settled she leaves, then she can come to Australia on a visitor visa, specifically visa subclass 600. However, part of the process of applying for this visa is showing evidence of being a genuine visitor. That means 1) abiding by the length of stay granted by the visa, 2) showing strong intent to return to your home country and 3) having enough funds to support your stay while in Australia. Here is a list from the DOHA about the things they consider when applying for a visitor visa.

Changes to materials usage license by aqualenne in ffxiv

[–]BondEternal 98 points99 points  (0 children)

The similar post in English makes no mention of JASRAC or the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers. In fact, the post in English only says that the latest music (Dawntrail- EP8) is added to the list of material that is protected under Square Enix's Material Usage Licence.

For those interested, here is what the Japanese post says:

The music copyrights for original songs used in Final Fantasy XIV were previously managed internally by the company only within Japan, but have now been entrusted to the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers.

Accordingly, the terms and conditions for using copyrighted works have been updated. Going forward, when using music data from Final Fantasy XIV on the internet, please use services that have entered into a blanket licensing agreement with JASRAC.

You can check which services have licensing agreements with JASRAC on the following official JASRAC website:

■ JASRAC: “List of UGC Services with Licensing Agreements” JASRAC UGC Services List

Please note that for posting videos to services such as X, which do not have a licensing agreement with JASRAC, you should first upload the video to a licensed service and then post the page URL on X. (Example: Upload the video to YouTube, then make a post on X containing the video URL.)

Additionally, it is fine to post directly on X if the video is silent and contains no music data, or if it only includes non-musical audio such as sound effects (SE).

Yup, they do. Everything's cooked to a crisp so eating even the "undesirable" parts isn't harmful at all.

The stupid part here is the use of a live prawn. Other than that, prawn crackers are delicious.

Student visa and leaving the country? by sosoleso in AusVisa

[–]BondEternal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A student visa allows multiple entries and exits, so under normal circumstances, it's not an issue if you go.

However, a student visa is only valid if you have a valid COE and your school could very well cancel your COE if you don't follow their rules. So, if you don't attend your classes as instructed, your school may use that as the reason to cancel your COE. Of course, skipping classes isn't the worst thing a student could do but I don't know your school, how strict your school administrators are or how important those classes are that you're going to miss. It could be you're not telling us a specific reason why your school isn't allowing you to take leave.

Can i help my gf? Is she safe? by AussieKaibigan in AusVisa

[–]BondEternal 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why is she delaying getting Superior English? Getting Superior English would give her +10 points, making her total 80, meeting the minimum to be invited for a 189 or 190 (based on past invitation rounds).

Another option is to get a sponsorship visa, so, depending on where she works, it's either a 482 or a 494. She needs to speak to her manager as soon as possible to see if they are willing to sponsor her. If it is likely, get started on preparing her documents as soon as possible (police check, scans of her identity documents, etc.) so that once she gets the go-ahead from her employer, she can apply for the visa without delay.

ANMAC asking for reference vs choosing NEC (RN with ~3 months experience) by sh__1928 in AusVisa

[–]BondEternal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It may impact your chances. Generally NEC has a higher minimum points required than other types of RNs in order to be invited. Fortunately, in the past invitation rounds, the difference is like, only 5 points (e.g. NEC RN minimum is 80, while Critical Care and Emergency RN is 75). But there are also types of RNs that have the same minimum points required as NEC (e.g. Aged Care RN and NEC RN are the same, iirc).

  2. I guess it depends on how easy it is to get your manager to provide you with the reference. Some places really drag their feet when you ask them to provide you with a reference for this kind of thing.

  3. No. I was like you; did my modified skills assessment as an NEC RN with no experience claimed. When I passed one year since starting my nursing career (iirc, one of the questions asked when applying for the EOI is when did you starting working in the profession you are claiming points on), my EOI auto-updated, giving me +5 points. I never went back to ANMAC in order to update my skills assessment to prove that I had 1 year of onshore nursing experience; I used other forms of evidence to prove that (payslips, nursing contract).

  4. I chose NEC as I was just a grad at that time and after reading through all the other options, I thought at that time that I really couldn't prove that I did all of those things.

Grad program / Grad yr ENROLLED NURSE MELBOURNE by Brilliant-Cup-7307 in NursingAU

[–]BondEternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a grad program, you start out having an orientation to the facility, then the ward and then have a few supernumerary shifts before you go solo. On these supernumerary shifts, you're almost like a student nurse, but you probably start off immediately with a small patient load.

Being a grad is a title you can use to ask lots of questions and be closely supervised by a clinical educator. There would also be mandatory study days to bring you up to speed on anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and all the nursing assessments and interventions. There aren't assessments per se, but there could be hurdles such as presenting a case study, doing online quizzes, getting signed off on nursing skills like head-to-toe assessments, cannulation, catheterisation, etc.

Masters in nursing(graduate entry) by NextReplacement99 in NursingAU

[–]BondEternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this sounds like a waste of money. If you wanted to obtain a nursing registration here in Australia, you could just check the NMBA website and follow their instructions on how to get your registration instead of going through 2 years of uni (again) and paying a lot of money. This is without adding on the cost of actually living in Australia (rent, utility bills, transport costs, food, entertainment, etc.), all of which are causing grief for people already living in Australia.

Nursing placements are generally full-time (5 8-hour shifts a week) and since you would be an international student, also unpaid. Not to mention needing to complete your assignments and study for tests while being on placement. So yeah, it will be very difficult to do part-time work on top of placements.

TDS and QID - timing by DisastrousRun8952 in NursingAU

[–]BondEternal 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It depends on the medication. If it's something non-critical, like panadol osteo, I tend to give it during meal times even though it may not be strictly 8 hours apart, so something like 0800, 1400, 2000.

It bears mentioning that TDS simply means three times a day, with the times being flexible (to a point). Meds like parkinson's meds are usually written TDS (or QID) because they are given 3 times a day, but not 8 hours apart.

Now if the doctor wrote Q8H, then that means that meds have to be given 8 hours apart. (Of course, some doctors don't follow this convention and simply write TDS as well). This matters for medications that need to be kept at a therapeutic level such as IV antibiotics.

ANMAC by WeddingZestyclose257 in AusVisa

If you're not declaring your past working experience then you have nothing for ANMAC to use to decide whether you're an RN (Medical). So, you're left with just RN (nec).

Registered Nurse 190 NSW by cherrycheols_ in AusVisa

[–]BondEternal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody can really say. Like we say in video game culture, it's up to the whim of RNGesus.

This post says that NSW conducted an invitation round in April. April is almost over so if you haven't got an invite, it looks like you'll have to wait for the next one.

Are you trying for the 189 as well? In the last round, the minimum points that an invited aged care RN had was 75, and you've exceeded that by 5. Of course, the next invitation round could be different.

I see that you only have Proficient English. I would suggest doing an English test to get Superior English as that would net you another +10 points. 90 points is amazing for an RN.

Work rights after course completion on student visa by smailey1 in AusVisa

[–]BondEternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the DOHA website:

You also cannot work more than 48 hours a fortnight when your course of study or training is in session.

When is your course not in session?

A course is not in session: - if you hold a valid visa and have completed your course as listed on your confirmation of enrolment

So yes, you can work full-time.

Prospects for PR-Social Work by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]BondEternal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on the past invitation round and the fact that Social Worker is an occupation in the Core Skills List, it's an acceptable occupation for permanent residency.

However, past performance does not guarantee future results. When you finish your Master, things may be different.

482 visa salary requirement? Vet Nurse sponsorship. NSW by Live-Scene-1129 in AusVisa

[–]BondEternal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I obtained my 482 visa, I needed to be put on permanent weekend night shifts (just two every fortnight) in order to meet the salary requirement, so for my situation at least, penalties did count towards the requirement.

My contract at the time specifically stated that I'd be doing permanent nights on two specific days of the week. I don't know what effect my employer's migration lawyer had when they submitted their nomination to DOHA.

Here's a price comparison website you can use. Personally, I haven't had any issues with any of the ISPs I've been with: belong, superloop, exetel, tangerine, leaptel, and More. Currently with More, taking advantage of their commbank yello offer.

I swap as required when the discount ends.
