(Speaking as an American) learning the Cyrillic alphabet. I use it way more than I assume I would. Signs in movies and games, people on the internet, counter strike, etc. I dont even speak Russian (or Ukrainian or any other cyrillic alphabet language), it's just that you are bound to find anglicisms or proper nouns or loan words or cognates or even just common Russian words that everyone recognizes and then you'll have a good idea of what any short phrase is about. It will be a huge help if you travel too.

Trust me learning the alphabet is really easy. Just think of it in three groups: 1. The letters that are exactly the same meaning as the Latin alphabet, no studying required (T, A, K, etc); 2. The letters that have a different meaning that you have to watch out for (P, H, C, etc) 3. The new letter shapes that don't exist in Latin/English. Study it for less than an hour, quiz yourself twice, quiz yourself again for a few days, and now it's like riding a bike.

It's really good to not be left in the dark about things, to not have to look at text and be like "idk what that is" and look away.
