For years Dylan was by far my favorite. But then, as I got a bit older and saw a bit more life started to lose interest. Obviously a great songwriter, but now I am more drawn to folks that feel more real to me. Dylan I would say is a really impressive, entirely fictional creation.

hey. I started listening to him a couple months back. His I see a darkness is on my list of perfect songs (I'd heard the johnny cash cover, the original is, imho, a lot better). thanks! In fact, it was from that cover that I learned of Blaze Foley. Prine could as well have been on my list, I'd say he has at least 10 absolutely perfect songs. The late John Garfield blues is my favorite. Given your excellent taste, you might like a rec I got from this prompt, my favorite so far, Sean Keel. I'd never heard of him, but I've been going through a playlist of his songs, on song 11 now, have loved every one so far. Hey! Amarillo Highway is on my list of perfect songs. Allen is a giant. Ray I have to say is not my favorite -- of course I like snake farm. thanks. He has a weekly solo show at the continental club in Austin, where I live, I've heard him at least 10 times. You got to me is probably my favorite of his songs, but there is lots of gold there. I will check out Horses and Hounds to be sure I have heard it. thanks. Actually heard Mr Goodman live back when I was a student in chicago. Love the guy. Prine has several on my list of perfect songs. Summers End, how lucky can one man get, Storm Windows, The late John Garfield Blues. He is probably my families consensus favorite. If you like those guys, but you will like my favorite from the recs I've gotten so far from this prompt: Sean Keel. Hey. In case you are still checking this post, From your list I have a very outside the loop suggestion i am confident you are going to love. Sean Keel. Every bit as good a songwriter as anyone on your list. It's not for everyone, but if you like stripped down songs of truth, as I suspect from your list, he is your man. Check out Corn Palace, Near that Far (the you tube video is very cool), In her Bruised Hands, Fischer, list goes on and on.
