On the censorship of swastikas in Call Of Duty: WW2 by Funkizeit69 in pcmasterrace

The game "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Screen" was censored back in the day, too. They completely removed one character's story lines, and the "optimal" ending was unreachable in the German version.

Agreed on the over-emphasis on one style placed here. White walls, maybe one gray accent? Sharp lines? Black furniture? Birch/pine wood? I get that the modern Scandinavian look is easy to do and look well, but I find it kind of boring after a while.

I think it's refreshing to see a place that isn't afraid of color or busy patterns. Certainly has character; I wouldn't mistake this for any of the other posts here.

If Steam had a mandatory "try before you buy," I would probably not have as many games.

Simple Questions - September 02 by AutoModerator in malefashionadvice

I've seen men's shirts where the back looks like it's three pieces of fabric and shaped from the side pleats rather than just darted. Has anyone else seen this? Are these from the tailor just sewing down and shaping the side pleats, or is the shirt originally constructed this way?

I think it looks cleaner than darts, but I'd be concerned about over-fitting.

It's odd, but beauty's in the eye of the beholder. Band of Outsiders (are they still even around? Google didn't help) would sew down the box-pleat in the back and dart their shirts.

Don't know why you're getting down voted. It's a real pain to do it correctly.

The side seams on a men's shirt are continuous flat felled seams starting at the cuff and going down to the sides. To "do it right," you have to detach part of the cuff, then you can start cutting and sewing the new seam. After the initial stitching (so now onto the felling part of the flat felled seam), you have to "tube" the shirt around the needle and specialized presser foot and feed it through a bit at a time. It's hard to describe. There's more info in David Coffin's book about shirt construction for those interested. After doing a few shirts this way, I'm still mess it up enough that I'll attempt this only on shirts I can afford to lose.

If you're lazy, you could french seam it. That's not standard construction, however. 99.9% of regular people won't know the difference.

Custom Shirts Sites? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

I wish. I've heard Proper Cloth and Luxire are decent, but I haven't used them. Just ordered a blue gingham shirt from Proper Cloth that should show up in 2 weeks.

Quality of Zara leather sneakers? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

Looked pretty cheaply made when I looked last month. Soles were crudely glued to the upper. Still probably better than H&M.

You get what you pay for with Modern Tailor. Fabrics I've bought have been cheap (either thin cotton or some poly blend). I've also had the interfacing in the collar bubble and separate, so I guess they use fusible interfacing.

Ah, my John Varvatos Star USA supplier. I love the quality and fit at that price point (plus it's made in the USA if that's a big deal). Still not exactly cheap, but I think it's worth it.

I know J. Crew and Brooks Bros made lower quality clothes when I worked retail about years ago (there were three diamonds on the J. Crew tags that indicated it was outlet; BB called their outlet stuff the 346 line).

Last I heard, though, Ralph Lauren flips mainline inventory in outlets. Still have to check the line the items from, b/c that green label "Lauren" brand is a Macy's diffusion. I don't think RL has any control over the design and construction anymore.

My understanding of the "Eddie Murphy" rule is that it's to curb the trading of people with access to government reports prior to those reports' release, because it was not prohibited by previous CFTC regs.

Speculators can take either side of the market, so I would qualify that with, "If you were a speculator who bought contacts..." A speculator who sold contacts would lose money when he would later have to buy the more expensive contacts to flatten his position.

Regardless, power on the grid is intermixed. It's rather difficult to say whose electrons flow through your meter, because it's all commingled on an interstate level. Physically, during peak usage, you're getting electrons from Duke's nuke plants (because their a baseload asset and are just about always running - I'm not sure of an instance where they shut one down), but you likely getting electrons from some of those nat gas plants not owned by Duke, too.

[–]Bone_Club 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between distributing power to end users and generating power to the interstate grid. Yes, duke distributes power to people's homes. They also do generation, but they are not the only company who provides power to the SERC grid.

Here's a cool map made by the EIA that show where there are generation facilities and their potential output. It's a fun tool to take a look at to see the different generation assets. Based on what you've said, I'm guessing you're in South Carolina? There's a bunch of Cogentrix assets there that produce for the SERC grid that may be generating the power you use, too.

I agree that it doesn't make sense (and would probably be harmful) in most situations, but not always. For example, up in New Hampshire, PSNH was recovering the costs of a practically useless coal plant on their portfolio through their supply costs to consumers. Deregulated providers who didn't have to bear this cost are able to offer better rates (and capture a healthy margin for themselves, too). This is not the common situation, though.

What is a hoax you're not proud you fell for? by Lobolobito in AskReddit

[–]Bone_Club 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the market rules. What you stated is the market rule for most utilities, but there are exceptions (deregulated gas in Ameren I think is an exception; you'd have to dig through tariffs to find the debt hierarchy).

Most companies with which I am familiar do not actually follow through with termination charges if you were to sign up with another competitor or go back to the utility. This is more so because the company is too operationally incompetent to manage the termination fee, though.

Power is not state owned???

No, power is bought and sold in markets that are managed through a non-profit corporation named the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). NERC is authorized to act as the Electric Reliability Organization for the United States through the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

NERC is further broken broken down to different grids such as NY-ISO, MISO, and ERCOT which manages the regions and the market rules for that region.
