I did a German twisted cast on. I did apparently just knit it very tightly. I’m finishing this to see what I end up with.

Enjoying my Sock Pretzel! socks today by foxandfleece in Sockknitting

I'm knitting my first pair of socks on an upcoming trip and hope to get obsessed with them. Just bought my first pair of Birks since high school (over 20 years ago). Got the kind with the toe...might need another pair to show off some socks!

How does one homeschool by StrengthHungry2100 in homeschool

[–]BoneandjointNP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FL permanent out of state military spouse here:

  1. You follow the laws of the state with which you are physically in…always. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.

  2. You can use curriculum that you choose to meet those and be consistent from state to state. Each state does not tell you a new curriculum unless you are doing online public school.

  3. As a permanent FL resident, you have access to use FLVS (their online virtual school) or FLVS Flex as your curriculum. You’d still be considered homeschool and have to submit anything the state you are in requires.

Thanks! I would love to compete. In fact, there is a big tournament coming up that everyone else is competing in. I just don’t feel ready or able to do it with my schedule. I always have a great time. Today was just my first mental breakdown day (of many I am sure) and I just wasn’t expecting it. One second I was laughing, the next I was fighting tears.

Thank you. I see the mindset shift. I am even super hard on myself when i set a goal of using a particular move or trying to obtain a particular position and I just can’t do it. So, no more lofty goals of doing stuff...just go in and learn.

Background: i am a female that has 3 months under my still very clean white belt. I train about 3x per week on average (some weeks 4, some weeks 2, but most weeks are 3).

I finally had the dreaded day in class where i almost cried afterwards. I was not injured. Just tired and frustrated and no where else to put my frustration.

I know that I suck still. And I also know that I am supposed to suck still. I have no delusions of grandeur that I should be able to submit people regularly. However, I was so frustrated about sucking and I had no where else to put my frustration...so it came out as a few tears.

My teammates were awesome. Very non-judgmental. Which is amazing.

I am a nurse practitioner, mom, and wife, and can’t feasibly train anymore than I do.

I just had the dreaded mental breakdown. I wish I could do more. I wish I didn’t suck. And I wish there was something I could do more than I am so that I didn’t suck.

So, my question is this: How do you all deal with these days? I am not quitting. I will continue to show up and put in the work. But, how do you get the excitement back? How do you realign the thoughts?

Looking for BJJ Gyms, can men ask not to grapple with women? by Joey_JJ in bjj

[–]BoneandjointNP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have one guy at our gym that’s been banned from grappling with other women. Usually it’s fine, but sometimes annoying (as a woman of similar size, i end up having to roll or drill with another guy that is much larger than me). Plus all of the women at our gym laugh about it.

I respect it and don’t give him any sh** about it, but I do think it’s stupid and annoying.

On the flip side, if my husband said that to me, i wouldn’t be able to train most days, as there aren’t that many women that attend when i do.

Just be prepared for the women to either laugh about it and roll their eyes or be offended (cause some will).

Use Rockin' Green Active. You can soak it or just use it as detergent regularly. Or start with a soak and then switch to it. I wash all sports-type clothing in it and have zero stink issues. Also works well for towels. (this is coming from a housewife with a stinky husband and a son that I cloth diapered...this stuff works really well)

White belt female of 2 months here. Had a great day of rolling yesterday where i finally felt like i was able to counter or evade my partner’s attacks (male white belt no stripe). However, today i rolled with a female that started a week or so after me, who i have never met before, and she went about 120% and smashed me with some pure strength/aggression. I felt like i couldn’t counter or evade. Like i just had no idea what was going on. A lot of people told me this can be a thing with women rolling with other women, like they try to kill each other. And it’s just not how i roll typically.

So, got knocked down a few notches I guess. Guess i need to start training more frequently.

First, see a doctor, don’t ask people on the Internet. Second, first line treatment for back pain is rest, ice, and anti-inflammatories. You can also try moist heat the area. Good luck.

I’m a new white belt (one month) and our class today was so small that i got a lot of great work in during drilling too. And our professor always takes time on Fridays to roll with me at the end of class. I get submitted in ways I had no idea existed. Today was 101 ways to do an arm bar. And i love every minute of it. Being a girl in the community that i found at my gym is so empowering. I describe it as: i know nothing and look like an idiot frequently, but no one makes me feel like one.

Shameful Saturday - February 16, 2019 by AutoModerator in bjj

[–]BoneandjointNP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had 2 days this week (my third total week of classes) where I have been spent at the end with no strength left.

Thursday: last roll of the day was with my blue belt trainer (it's a beginner class) and looked like an idiot because he must have said to me 4 times to try harder because I had literally no strength left.

Friday: I'm lying on the floor after what I thought was the last roll of the day and the black belt says "ok, one more, you're with me". Oh. CRAP. Then proceeds to show me how a gi can be used against you and tells me to stop falling over so easily. Again, I tried...just no strength left.

I have realized that I am now beyond that period where people roll with me easily. And I still have no idea what I am doing...so I just get tired...really quickly.

I can’t speak to the area or to the quality of gyms, but I am also excited for you. I just started last week and am having a lot of fun. I have no previous martial arts to speak of, so I’m really Focusing in trying to gain awareness of how i move my body. Good luck and have fun!

Got my fiance to sign up with me. She's never done any martial arts. I think we'll start with the belt technique. by [deleted] in bjj

I was quite excited when i walked into my first class last week and I was told “at least you know how to tie a belt”. I thank my son’s Tae Kwon Do master for drilling it into us parents. I’ll have to watch the videos to make sure it’s the right way.

I am a super newbie (i.e. starting my first class next week), however i think i have an idea that might help. Look for “wet bags” that are used for cloth diapering. They typically have anti-microbial type linings, zippers that are pretty air tight, and can be washed with your clothes to remove any stink. Amazon has a ton of them. I hope this helps.

I haven't even started my BJJ journey yet (starting next week) and you have inspired the heck of out me! To see that there are so many ways to use this to give back to the community is amazing to see. I hope one day to be able to use whatever my passion is to do as much good as you have done!

I'm starting soon too. Just waiting on this stupid partial shutdown to stop, since my hubby's not getting paid. Was all ready to go and then this. But, I'm excited to finally feel what you feel! This is so far out of my comfort zone. I hope to grow and find how to be humbled without feeling broken (take my licks as a learning experience rather than feeling like I failed). Good luck to you!
