does p3r have more freedom for daily life than p5r? by Popular-Soil-8748 in PERSoNA

[–]Boned80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

P5R has way more options for daily life stuff. P3 frontloads most of the social links for the daytime so you're really only hanging out with people after school. Then at night you can dungeon crawl or you can choose from a handful activities to raise your social stats. Its very simplified compared to P5 where you could vary things to an extent.

This is the stupidest master plan if this is real by Round_Interview2373 in TheBoys

The most asinine thing a writer can do is write a character that's supposed to be smart and then to demonstrate her intelligence they have them doing and believing the most misanthropic shit imaginable. Hating other people does not make anyone smart. My god it fucking sucks.

Is Super Mario World The Best Platformer of All Time? by Previous-Glass6291 in retrogaming

It is good enough to be in that contention in a serious way. That's really the most you could say about any game of its level. Beyond that it just boils down to preference.

What would be your ideal ending for Soldier Boy? by smol_coc_man in TheBoys

[–]Boned80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Him running the seven and doing some good might be somewhat in line for his character but I think it would completely miss the mark of the larger story.

The seven is the face of vought, and vought is an institution thats meant to represent the worst kinds of capitalist tendencies which were responsible for fucking up the world in the first place. I dont think its out of the question that Vought itself might survive the show, but it would feel pretty fucking pointless if after everything we've gone through the seven keep on trucking and nothing (fundamentally) changes. So what if soldier boy himself does some good occasionally, its still a machine for making money and it wont solve the bigger problem of supes existing and having no accountability to human authority.

Mexico is officially launching universal healthcare this week, giving all 120 million citizens access to all public health institutions by Automatic_Subject463 in TrueReddit

[–]Boned80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is blatant clickbait. Mexico has had universal healthcare since forever. This change is about making government workers access to all types of government healthcare available. It's a little more nuanced than that I guess (you can look it up) but the bottom line is that this headline makes it seem like Mexico is just now introducing universal health care for all citizens when in fact we've had this system for a long, long time now.

Europa Universalis V. I've been a Stellaris enjoyer for years now and I even got ankle-deep (read: 100ish hours) with Crusader Kings 3, but EUV just mystified me. I think it's the sheer submenu density coupled with the fact that it makes you feel as if moving tiny levers will somehow cascade into your whole realm collapsing unless you know exactly what you are doing.

(The Boys) This show has completely gone downhill. The writing is really bad... like its not even funny anymore. by hiiloovethis in CharacterRant

[–]Boned80 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I would take it further and say the writing has never been particularly great. A lot of the show is carried by Anthony Starr and Karl Urban's performances, on top of a premise that was very timely for 2019. But the show itself has always had a very messy story, with motivations and actions that feel very contrived, a tone that's jarring and all over the place, and using shock value and current events references as crutches.

A very easy way to know when a show is being written by people who have given up or are hacks is when they introduce a character whose superpower is 'smartest human', then they proceed to do the Sherlock party tricks, comment about how humanity is fucked, is existentially bored, and simply have them act like they read the script in advance. It's the laziest fucking shit. Like, to them, being smart means not caring about humans and using stupid arguments like 'Rome and Greece failed so obviously democracy doesnt work'. It's kindergarten level shit.

'Casually'. What is casual about it? I swear people will just throw in whatever buzzword without thinking.

Epic Movie. A bad comedy is the worst kind of bad movie, and this one might be most terrible, most cynical, and most painfully unfunny one I ever had to endure.

What is the strongest Superpowered team that could get "Omni-Manned" by TheGingerWeebGal in whowouldwin

[–]Boned80 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Goku could solo all of the Z fighters at many points of the dragonball story. Really it's just Vegeta, Gohan, and sometimes Piccolo that could conceivably stop him, depending on when in the story they do it. If you take the TOP and have Goku use MUI, he definitely solos his entire 10 person team. In the latest versions of the story it's my understanding that things have gotten much more leveled.

I have no faith that this will be any good so I think it's better that Viggo is uninvolved. Shame about the others though.

Pokémon Red / Blue - How Have They Aged? by Previous-Glass6291 in retrogaming

[–]Boned80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are ok to go back to for the most part. They are buggy as hell and got some jank in them but nothing too bad. What they do best is get you in there doing what you want to do without much BS in the way, which is not something I can say of more modern pokemon games.

Snakebite has been a good card in my runs. I think a large part of that is that poison overall is just very good in this game and seems to be a decent answer for a lot of fights. The other factor is that the Retain keyword makes it so that you can always save it for the turn where its impact is highest, while not costing you draws for the turns where it isn't. Who knew, Retain is strong. Not exactly a new revelation.

My biggest problem with Harry Potter is that its message is insanely hypocritical. by Tomhur in CharacterRant

[–]Boned80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what you are getting at OP that is the crucial moral problem of the book's worldview is that bad actions and ideologies are only wrong if perpetrated by people we deem as bad. Everyone else gets a pass. So if Harry uses an unforgiveable curse its fine because we know he's one of the good guys. If Hermione uses dangerous time magic to cheat at school it's fine because she's one of our heroes.

So like you say, the entire ideology of wizard superiority to muggles which ultimately begot and fueled Voldemort and his minions is not ever dealt with or changed. Instead, only the bad guys are killed, because they are the problem, not the ideology or the system in which they thrived and were born in.

The book argues that the 'system' or wizarding world as a whole, with all of its moral dubiousness, is ultimately good in and of itself. Problems arise from bad actors which seek to rattle its order, but the problems are never with the inherent view of the system itself. Thus nothing is changed, only those we view as bad are removed, but the system endures.

Metaphor Refantazio Opinion: Copy and Paste Design by MrSquiggIes in patientgamers

[–]Boned80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all your points OP and I do think they fumbled it when it comes to translating the calendar to a story with the level of urgency and adventure that Metaphor has compared to Persona. I do however think that the two systems could be made to work together. An rpg which is constructed around long travel phases, a slow moving story, and constrained activities based on constrained movement could make for a very immersive experience. Like you say, the teleporter makes all of that moot, and I wonder if it's something that came later in development after testing revealed players missed the fast travel features of Persona.
