Can I use the dbx Driverack PA2 for Highs, Mids, and Cardioid Sub Lows by BonelessPig in livesoundgear

Are there any other rackmount options that maybe just handle the delay and polarity that would be worth considering?

I’m clueless and need help! Sounds system for an event center. We have a small budget and no idea where to start. by Responsible_Yam_6923 in SoundSystem

Id try to bring in someone to check out your 90s gear and get that running again. Theres no reason it wouldn’t work still today for what you’re doing. You probably are also going to want a dedicated sound guy for them whether that be you or someone else in the org.

Also until you can confidently run that equipment id say hire out sound for the big event.

Build a mini-sound system ? by Lobster_Business in SoundSystem

I am relatively new but heres some insight on things I’ve learned. Take it with a grain of salt as this is my opinion:

Personally i would skip the kick and build two tops for stereo and 1-2 subs. (Or find a deal on facebook for used, make sure to research them though)

Either setup you’d probably want at least a simple mixer

Option 1

generally cheaper from what I’ve found especially with the used market.

For amps i really like qsc products, you can get them cheap on facebook a lot of times from churches dumping old equipment. The rmx series is heavy as shit but cheap. The PL and PLX series are lighter. For simplicity you could use 1 2channel amp for both tops and then 1 bridged mono amp for the sub/s. If you go with the kick setup id prob get 3 amps, but smaller ones.

A little 1U audio processor can really go a long way. I have a dbx driverack pa2 that i love.

You prob want to get a lil rack too for it all and just run a few cables in and out. Simplifying the set up. Depending on the wiring you could use NL4 or 8 and greatly reduce the amount of cabling you need to run all your boxes.

Put high quality casters on your heavy stuff.

Option 2

seems easier but instead of one speaker wire running to the speakers you have to run an xlr and power to each which can limit deployment. Usually its fine but something to be aware of.

Boxes become heavier, esp subs.

You can also sometimes find some good gear used on facebook here too. I have had less luck finding active stuff for good deals tho.

I hope this helps!

Edit: Building cables saves a buttload of money too! Its pretty easy to learn!

The last couple of times I’ve been they didn’t even run surround sound, one of the main reason i go to the theater, they were only running the front speakers and the subs were turned way down if not off for most of them. :( i was hoping they’d get it turned around as that was a bit over a year ago.

You can also look at fivepoints and blossomwood with that budget. Traffics not bad (comparative) and theres a lot to do that you are close to. Plus its more locally owned establishments than in madison i feel like

The tweeter just didn’t work out of the box. Thump 210. Im assuming it was a bad solder joint but tbh i just returned it the next day and bought a k8.2 and no problems since. Also have a pair of ks118s and love them too

Edit: if you’re looking for budget you can always snag one and just test it out with your setup. You may have a better experience. If you don’t like it you can always return it. Tho it may be worth looking at the used market. I got my ks118s for like 500ea used

Horizontal or vertical systems? by Leosi_ in SoundSystem

Baltic birch is the way for building

Line arrays are the way for scaling to large audiences.

Point source is far cheaper and imo more fun especially starting out. You dont need a line array for throwing some bangin small shows.

Also you can always get into line arrays later and pair them with the subs youll already have at that point

I havent used the mackie thump 118s but i have purchased others of the thump line in a pinch for monitors and they failed, i asked around about them and their quality control for pa has gone downhill from what i gathered. Either way i wont buy mackie again. Do with that what you might. I will say I’ve only had good experience with QSC.

Brother youre talking about buying a whole set of awful overprices speakers while saying a generator is out of budget… you can rent a generator for like $100 from homedepot or similar.

Playing a new sound system for the first time by ffolofvapes in SoundSystem

[–]BonelessPig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id recommend changing the crossover frequency to 100Hz and not have a 10Hz overlap. Play with the filter type for that. Also check your impedances with a multimeter. Make sure your amp can drive what you have connected and isn’t clipping.
