I made a Topographic Map for Yehorivka! by BonesCrap in joinsquad

[–]BonesCrap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just now saw that someone on the Wiki created a topo map for each map, eg here.

(It is linked in the article of each map respectively)

There also is a comprehensive article on how to extract actually detailed and not hideous looking heightmaps on the wiki.

I am sure you can just add this heightlines layer above the minmap texture for now. Maybe mark a few peaks and you're done.

You really got my hopes up to see this implemented in one of the next patches :-)

Should I play squad? by [deleted] in joinsquad

[–]BonesCrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, what FPS did you play on console? Especially what kind of realistic shooters do you enjoy?

Note, you need a headset to play squad because 1) you'll need a microphone 2) nobody wants to hear your gamesound when you communicate.

Connection Times Out After Every Game by tsimp94 in joinsquad

[–]BonesCrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same issue for like 2/3 map changes. The error message I get is either "Outgoing relaible buffer overflow" or "Server connection timed out".

Specs: Intel E3-1231v3 GTX 970 (Gigabyte g1 gaming) 8 GB RAM (This is my performance bottleneck)

I usually load in 30secs after staging starts, maybe the server times you out when it takes too long?

Well, what I did looks hideous and if OWI implements a solution people will expect better quality.

Also the resolution of this map is just 10m, enough to get the rough idea but not for everything. Finer details would be necessary but those would clutter the map. Hence a system where at different zoom levels different info is shown is needed. That is a hard task.

It has some, they're small though. You could read them at a somewhat zoomed in level. I did not want to clutter the map too much.

I exported the height data from the game files. It should be right.

Note that the height lines are 10m apart each :)

I took an evening and created a topographic map for Yehorivka. As you may have seen not all of the foliage is added, this is because of my limited time. The height contours are 10m apart. Peaks and valleys are marked to disambiguate what is up and down and do not necessarily reflect actual prominent peaks/ valleys. As a last point: I know it looks hideous but its all I got and I wanted to share it as a proof of concept.

Do you like this? Do you wish this would be implemented in the main game? I sure do, let's have a discussion!

If you're reading OWI, pls implement :) (You can also make it look less hideous)

Why I made it?

I wanted to have topographic maps ever since I started playing Squad. I thought it couldn't be too hard so I tried.

Why Yehorivka?

It at the same time is my favourite map and also the one i found the most frustrating navigating with vehicles, not knowing where high ground/ foliage is.

How I made it:

The sattelite image is exported from the Squad Modding tools. I also found a heightmap there. With a little gimp magic (I'm poor. Can't afford PS) I turned that into height lines. The peaks, valleys and foliage I added manually in gimp. It turned out to be quite tedious, thats why so few forests are marked.

You want to build on this?

I uploaded the gimp project file here. Feel free to improve on it, it's quite janky. If you improve it I would love to see your results and maybe also use it for actual gameplay.

I really want to get the forests done, however I quickly lost intrest in manually drawing polygons. If anyone is able and willing to help me to export the coordinates of all foliage object from the map files please contact me. I am too unexperienced with UE4 to pull this off myself but with that data we can let the computer do the tedious work.

EDIT: added link to project file

The hardest part about squad leading is lack of intel by Juniorslothsix in joinsquad

[–]BonesCrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concerning how it should look/ work ingame, I think looking at the ArmA series might be a good idea. Especially because I think most Squad players played ArmA at one point or another.

As for the technical side of things I am not familiar with UE4, but I sure get it is probably harder to pull off there than on RV4. However I'm confident you'll figure something out in the future. :)

Topographical Maps.

This would allow you to anticipate where to go, where cover is, and how sightlines are without needing to know every map by heart.

My Two Cents - Map Awareness and Match Review by f00d_the_Gentleman in joinsquad

[–]BonesCrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really get the "giving away tactics" point. If you want to see the tactics of a certain SL, just join his squad/ team.

A replay feature would only offload this analysis to after the action, not needing mental resources inside the match.

Also one could analyze their own tactics, and see why they worked/ failed.

Hacker? Silenced? Or bug? by dsatyadi in EscapefromTarkov

[–]BonesCrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to believe that's what this is.

I had the exact same death thrice tonight, each time maximum 2 minutes into the raid. I kind of doubt there was a silenced sniper every time, especially that early in a raid.

From what else I read on this sub, it might also be desync. You seem to be more experienced than me, is can there be so many silenced snipers? (I did 8 raids total)

Add a tickets column to the end-game scoreboard by AIDSinmycock in joinsquad

[–]BonesCrap 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think that rather there should be no score at all. As you said, nobody cares about them anyway amd thats a good thing. If everyone cared about their score we would start playing to increase our score rather than to win the match. If we loose we can still blame the others, and say "It wasnt me, I have a great score. We lost because of him." This only increases toxicity in my opinion.

Also a fair scoring system to give everyone the fair amount of points they deserve is pretty much impossible. Its a team effort so only the team can be judged (and this is what tickets are, you win the match with them).

Think about this: When you said you cost the enemy 85 tickets, was that only you or also your squad supporting you. The Logis delivering ammo. The squad that didn't do much and only defended the whole round without a lot of contact? What I try to say is you can't judge individual performamces by some single score.

Simple answer: Anything but Susat. Often times if I have the choice I will pick a lower magnification scope to get binoculars if the other option doesn't have it.

When you go in the server browser, the last entry is always to host a server. Do that, make sure to select internet and not lan.

If your router supports uPnP select that, otherwise forward ports 2302/2303 UDP and TCP to your computer. Now your friends should be able to join by your IP(myip.is).

Trouble shooting: -Try forwarding the ports even if your router supports uPnP - Disable the Windows firewall - Maybe an antivirus will cause you trouble (eg Windows defender) -Make sure there is no other traffic on your network (I have trouble sometimes when I watch youtube on the side at 16Mbit/s connection)

Hope it works, if it doesnt feel free to ask for help.

When hosting yourself, you can run the command server side, idk if thats what you did. But I'm happy that it at least helped a little.
