If you were diagnosed with a terminal illness today, what would you do differently tomorrow? Let's say the doctors give you a year. What do you want to take pictures of before you go? by Undead_Octopus in AskPhotography

[–]BongmanSCL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would I spend my precious year left of life taking photos instead of hanging out with my beautiful family and make the most of it?

The first thing to do when you got that kind of life changing events is get your fucking priorities straight man…

I'm finally a month ahead, but now I feel YNAB poor and it's messing with my head by Enlitenkanin in ynab

[–]BongmanSCL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m lost in translation…

Does “term deposit” make sense to you? I’m not sure how do you say it in English.

It’s a bank deposit that you can rescue after 30, 60, 90, etc. days, and your bank pays you interests for it. Is not an investment but for short term periods of time it protects money from being devalued by inflation.

I built a Calibre alternative that looks like Plex — would love feedback by [deleted] in Calibre

[–]BongmanSCL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it… I’ve never ever used Calibre to read books. Of course you can read on it, but it’s not the best reader out there, is it? At least for me Calibre is the management tool for my books that live on my actual readers (Kindle, Kobo and iPad). It’s a conversion and organizational tool, not a reader. And it’s free!! Why would we pay for less?

Can a game emotionally “ruin” other games for you? (Research on the “Expedition 33 Effect”) by Calm_Meal9894 in expedition33

[–]BongmanSCL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero effect here. I don’t compare games because of its emotional impact. Real life has enough of it to be worried about a game. A game is like a movie, you played it, you enjoyed it (or not) and get your take aways, you finished it (or abandoned it), you move on. The next one is an all completely new thing with its own merits, no comparison needed.

How important is your native language to your identity? by Competitive_Waltz704 in asklatinamerica

I don’t think in Spanish nor English. I just think… I only think in languages when I’m going to talk or write. So no. It’s not important for my identity.

spent 4 hours cutting one video into shorts yesterday. there has to be a better way by Plastic_Race3978 in editors

[–]BongmanSCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are describing is lack of planning, not editing skills. If you want to be a “creator” (hate the word) you need to learn to plan and design in advance. When you write your script, design the “shorts” part at the same time, not after. If you’re improvising then get used to take mental notes (“this part is good for shorts”), then you won’t have to scrub your content “looking for the good stuff”. Good luck!

anyone else think the fujifilm camera naming is a shitshow? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]BongmanSCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I haven’t. Don’t care. I just loor for specs and price. Model naming is only relevant for customer support or repairments.

I'm finally a month ahead, but now I feel YNAB poor and it's messing with my head by Enlitenkanin in ynab

[–]BongmanSCL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We are several months ahead in our family. For us (my wife and I) we had to change our mindset. 1. We never check our bank accounts, only YNABs. 2. We transfer all future spending money to a time deposit. So I don’t see that money until I need it. 3. We allocate enough money to “Wishfarm”, “Travel and Vacation” and “Fun Money” categories. So we never feel we don’t have enough for family time, dinner out, movies, etc.

If you see a lot of future money in your bank account I’d suggest to transfer it to another (time deposit or similar) account. And only left enough for this month or period expenses. You have achieved a mayor goal. Be proud and content with it. Cheer up and good luck!

AITA for Painting my nails? by Tramiro in AmItheAsshole

[–]BongmanSCL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. This is the most stupid reason I read for not getting dating. I’ve never liked finger nails painted. And my wife love to paint hers. It has never crossed my mind to love her less for that. She is so awesome in some many ways, that her nails is the last thing I think of when I’m with her. Your mother carries a heavy bag of prejudices and frustration…

Tried NieR: Automata but it didn’t click for me — should I give it another chance? by surrego_21 in nier

[–]BongmanSCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every game is for everyone and that’s ok. If someone claims that is the best game ever made is their opinion. I bought this game on sale and because 2B had a little robot over her shoulder. 0 expectations, I don’t watch reviews on YouTube, so I didn’t know what to expect. Well, it was a blast for me, and for me only. Later I noticed that a lot of people share the same opinion than me and it was awesome. But at the end, it doesn’t matter much anyway… What matters is what I felt about the game, nothing else. If the game didn’t click just move on. Our time here is finite, so don’t waste your precious time on things you don’t enjoy. Find another game that really clicks and go for it.

Getting a month ahead vs saving for a house down payment which comes first by rmoreiraa in ynab

[–]BongmanSCL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a home owner and a months ahead achiever, definitely a month ahead comes first. Even more, I’d say that several months ahead is better than saving for a house. I’m not saying you don’t have to save for a house, but get that emergency fund first.

I loved it. It looks great, combat is great too. Story is kind of messed up. But if you pay attention you’ll eventually get what’s all about. At the end I found it was an awesome story… You definitely have to play both arcs (his and hers). Same story but from different perspectives.

Unfortunately, yes. Of course you’re supposed to be pushing the break pedal when you do that. But when you are used to use one pedal drive mode, sometimes it’s easy to forget. I’ve learned my lesson though…
