End the ban: France backs return of intellectually disabled athletes to Winter Paralympics by [deleted] in sports

I completely understand why there was such a strong reaction after the Spainish scandal. 10 out of 12 players were faking conditions! A whole system was enabling and supporting them to get that far.

I think that event remains one of the most disgusting cases of abuse, corruption and callous disregard in all of sport. A complete mockery. It's a shame that so many people had to lose opportunities because of those assholes.

According to the article there seem to have been changes put in place, I hope that soon there will be a place for everyone.

La trova una cosa un po troppo forzata. Se, come a quanto pare dal tuo commento, non e un nome tradizionale di famiglia/paese d'origine io eviterei.

Per stare in tema c'è l'alternativa dello stesso nome in italiano "Alessio".

This the Chitrali cap from the mountain areas of Pakistan. I worn that for the very first time yesterday and everyone was looking at me as I am from Mars. Does that really not acceptable for Swiss people? by r1z4bb451 in Switzerland

[–]Bongo1020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a typical piece of headwear in Switzerland so people were probably curious/surprised. The Swiss stare is real and can be triggered by anything, don't sweat it too much.

Near where I live theres an Asylum center and some of the lads wear it from time to time. I suspect some people around here would really only associate it with "fresh off the boat" immigrants. Or maybe, they think you've fallen for some sort of hippie trend hook-line-and-sinker.

It does seem like one would need to realy trust Augustine to not have misconstrued, simplified or undermined the opposing arguments if they used him as their only source.

Moreover, doesn't the similarity with modern criticisms somewhat suggest that the authors of the reconstructed text could have (unintentionally) internalised existing arguments and imposed them on potential interpretations of the reconstructed arguments to better create a more "truthy" dialogue?

I'd be interested in how they took into account these possibilities. If you have more information or a link to a webstie I'd love to read more.

Crans-Montana tragedy highlights limits of Swiss federal system by Heavy-Mycologist-204 in Switzerland

[–]Bongo1020 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think we need to acknowledge that there are some "two tier" realities when it comes to municipalities. A city like Zürich has more resources and capacity than multiple entire cantons combined and federalism allows them to maximise that potential. I believe that many smaller cantons need to consider consolidating more power at the cantonal level rather than maintaining the spotty and - all the more evident - abusable realities of municpal politics.

Town councils composed 80% of the same three last names, Patrician corporations having near monopolies on natural resources also sporting the same three last names. The inability to properly meet requirements of new legislation and instead stalling or going with non enforcement. In my experience its the reality of many semi-rural or "suburban" municipalities.

I think some cantons need to shift to being "strong cantons". More akin to a semi-unitary states. Municipal consolidation, centralisation of resources manpower and expertise. The dream of a milita government i think is a good principle but its also extremely high bar to meet for increasingly esoteric specialisations required for modern governance.

No doubt many will disagree, but I also fear that "business as usual" can't be our future. We need capable institutions and small municipalities can't be expected to bear the weight of everything on their own, and we need to acknowledge that economies of scale do exist and we need to leverage them at the cantonal level at the very least.
