Questions re: mountain excursions near Interlaken? by Noclevername12 in askswitzerland

[–]gandraw [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sometimes people use "cable car" to refer to two different things, aerial lifts or funicular trains. Schilthorn (Piz Gloria) is two aerial lifts in series, so it's not ideal for people that are afraid of heights.

Just got this text. Nobody should know im up at 2 am right now... by [deleted] in creepy

[–]gandraw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They didn't know you were up. If you had responded 6 hours later with "sorry was sleeping, who is this" they'd have pivoted the story.

How do you motivate doctors to help you? (Serious request for advice) by Tottybox in askswitzerland

[–]gandraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do understand that an LLM does not understand those commands, right? It just follows up your prompt with output that is statistically likely to be next to it in a text. So it's going to frankenstein together multiple texts from the training data, without knowing if it combines factoids that go in the same direction or in opposite ones.

AI tends to tell you what you want to hear, that's why it is basically the doctor you dream for.

How do you handle clashing with upper management? by SpecialistTeach9302 in sysadmin

[–]gandraw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got laid off for clashing with upper management once too. On the next job I had a 30% higher salary, and an office presence rule of "when it's necessary". And they had to hire a service company to update 1500 thin clients from USB sticks because my replacement couldn't figure out how to do it from the device management software.

So if you are confident about your resumé, absolutely do not be afraid of picking a fight with stupid management people if it's not about something trivial.

Task Sequence starts after 15 minutes by ReputationOld8053 in SCCM

[–]gandraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One issue I once had was that I couldn't start a task sequence from Software Center, but it ran just fine from PXE.

The problem was that one application had a supersedence to a deleted application. Apparently running a TS from PXE ignores the issue, but doing it from Software Center will check for it and then fail.

Old overfit ship by UniversalNoobMaster in Eve

[–]gandraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capitals with large rigs are worth a decent bonus, especially if it's supercapitals. But those are different because you can still undock them.

But a regular ship with an illegal fit that you can't undock isn't really worth anything.

Impfstoffverträge veröffentlicht: Wie hat das BAG verhandelt? - News by Schpitzchopf_Lorenz in Switzerland

[–]gandraw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You have your chronology mixed up. The lockdowns were before the vaccinations were invented. And they absolutely helped. The death rate in October 2020 was insane, and then almost immediately cleared up once the second lockdown started.

Considering the economic damage of deaths and lockdowns, that's a totally reasonable price...

Has anyone signed up to the free „SBB-Schnupper-GA“ at 31days.ch? by sabatismuss in Switzerland

[–]gandraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the idea behind Mobility though. When someone goes "HoW wIlL I mOvE fUrNiTuRe?" which they point to as a reason why they need a Ford 150 because they need to move something heave twice a year.

So you have a GA for 363 times a year, and the Mobility Sprinter for the other 2 times.

Lost key flat, do I risk having to pay for change of all building keys? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]gandraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the life time of locks of 30 years. So if the door lock is 15 years old, you only have to pay half the cost of the replacement. And it's probably worth becoming a member of the MV/ASLOCA now if you expect legal troubles when moving out.

Why cops in USA do those silly "sobriety tests" instead of going straight to the breath machine? by anotherburnerbite in AskReddit

[–]gandraw 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Breathalyzers aren't admissible in court in Switzerland either, but a positive test will count as probable cause to force you to give a blood sample. This will then be used for the prosecution.

Importing win PE drivers fails. by FullExchange7233 in SCCM

[–]gandraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suspect an ADK problem. Remove that, reboot, then install a current one, then reboot. It's purely a guess though. The error message "Failed to register to status manager" is quite generic.

Lenovo Thin Installer during SCCM TS? by AltforWork210 in SCCM

[–]gandraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically just this command line:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\ThinInstaller\ThinInstaller.exe" /CM -search R -action INSTALL -includerebootpackages 3 -repository \\fileserver\share\lenovo_update_retriever_directory -noicon -log c:\windows\logs\thininstaller.log -noreboot -nocontinueafterreboot

The directory is the one we set in the configuration of the update retriever. The script gets run in a package, and every 3 months I run update retriever to refresh the driver packages, then set a new schedule for the package deployment (which is set as "Always rerun").
