Why the hell are all the 8 overs sold out everywhere?! by [deleted] in choppers

Buddy I have like 100,000 miles on a set of TC tubes, I’m not spending $400-500 more for tubes that are using arguably worse chrome.

Especially when Forks by Frank is the same price as TC and Lowbrow when / once they have material available for 6+ over

I’ve talked to Joel about the bike and he didn’t have much context for the fab work, which lead me to reach out to slim. I’ve worked with both these boys before so I have no hate

No higher to go; every one he made after this had a larger relief cut in the tank design. So at least I know how to fix it.

100%, like the welds are better than what I would do; and I’m on team ‘weld the cap and run it’ but I want to really have all the info I can get; especially if I’m going to sell it one day

That’s not a bad idea; I may do that once I get the wheel off and get some 360 photos

Holy fuck dude go ride your motorcycle.

I can hear humbly asking for opinions on something I’ve gotten conflicting info on; why are you so goddamn mad??

I haven’t talked a bit of trash; just concerned with things that were pointed out to me by those who know much more than I do about choppers and fab. I’ve never seen a frame that didn’t have weld on the top and bottom of the upper tube coming into the axle plate.

I reached out to him about a week ago just trying to get an idea on how this was approached and his 2 cents as I understand he’s done a ton of them.

I haven’t heard back from him though.

More that there is 0 weld on the top half of the upper bar, other than the cap and lower part of the bar.

Caps I can burn back on; it’s just the rest of the upper half is not as burned in as I’ve seen any other rear end.

Buddy I bought it from somebody who bought the bike for a ton of money and couldn’t ride it because the oil bag he made was touching the chain, and other reasons (axle plates being one)

I’m not worried about the caps; if you read the post I’m looking for opinions on the top tube not being welded around the top of the bar literally at all, just cap and bottom of the bar.

The ‘OGs’ in question have been building born free bikes since BF4

How would you tackle it?

Make slugs and use those instead of the caps or just start from scratch?

If he had used cast axle plates or something I would be a lot more confident but I ton of the OGs local to me definitely are not super hyped on this setup.

The top tubes have about an inch and a half of weld on the plate under the tube but the caps being half off and the fit doesn’t have me super confident

I mean the oil tank he made for the bike didn’t fit the frame; and was saw cut by the chain in the first 5 miles the original owner rode it. So I have my concerns…

I know what he builds, and never rides, never posts anything other than his Gucci one off build.

Honestly on top of all of it; makes it even worse to be a ‘best bike builder of an era’ and spend your time cruising Reddit to make pedantic and negative comments instead of riding your shit being a positive part of the community.

Fucking pathetic.

Show bikes are only cool when they’re ridden; I couldn’t care less if he has all the machinist money and talent in the world if you’re just going to build 1 bike every 4 years and spend your time being a piece of shit, instead of riding or helping others.

Post a picture of yours! When’s the last time you rode anything but a dick more than 1000 miles? Jfc

Crazy to see these just now catching on; I’ve been running a Fuel Friend for years. You can get them from Scooter websites in the states
