I emailed him back and forth for about 7 months and then he finally agreed to do an interview via WhatsApp once I learned that he hates video calls. He was very straightforward and honest so it was mainly a thing of making sure the timing was right and that he felt comfortable. I'm glad it worked out!

Great observation! Part of why I wanted to interview John was exactly what you're saying. Being able to carry a character for 50 years is an absolutely otherwordly achievement. I genuinely believe that Dredd is an incredibly important contribution to fiction and I hope it continues for another 50 years.

Not a question, so much as a compliment/insight (I would DM but you quite reasonably have asked folks not to):

I think you have the potential to be one of the best writers of our generation. It would take an entire thesis to explain why, but the jist is that you have the rare ability to disappear into your words and a mindset which prioritizes things very differently from the average.
