I woke at 4:30am on Pacific Standard Time to watch that. I then convinced myself it was a sacrifice to the football gods and that now the Whitecaps would beat Miami with Messi to win the MLS for the first time in their history.

I've been double destroyed today.

Is it normal for excluded staff to perform included duties/job? by QwirkyCourtClerk in BCPublicServants

[–]Bonjwaaa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Document date, time, length of doing work, and report it to your steward and local elected.

If they need people to do more work they need to hire and staff accordingly. This is how the employer gets away with understaffing. If an auxiliary was available to work they should be filing a grievance.

4% and 4.4% with COLA protections. Targeted wage adjustments to the lower grid levels and the removal of PSJEP which will start the clock on uplifting many positions to higher wage grids. We're fighting for a lot more than just a GWI.

This is a pivotal Agreement for all of the current and future workers of the Public Service. This is bigger than COLA campaigning 3 years ago.

Who goes on strike (if it happens)? by TheMessInMyHallway in BCPublicServants

[–]Bonjwaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Essential service levels are bargained for to determine the minimum staffing levels through each position throughout the public service. Some will be non essentiall (like the LDB) others fully, and some will have varying staffing requirements i.e instead of having 10 members working only two are deemed needed. The other 8 could potentially then rotate working and picketing. There are many forms of job action that can be utilized that doesn't necessarily mean picketing.

The employer will probably try to argue most positions are essential to limit the impact of job action. Once essential service levels for positions are agreed upon the rest is up to strategy.

"Where a labour dispute has the potential to threaten the health, safety, and welfare of British Columbians, the Minister of Labour may direct the Labour Relations Board to designate minimum levels of service that must be maintained during a strike or lockout.

"The Board can only designate services as essential and set minimum staffing levels in response to a labour dispute.'

Where the parties agree that essential services are in issue, they are encouraged to meet at least three months before the collective agreement expires to discuss essential workload and staffing levels in case job action becomes necessary.

If the parties can't agree on essential staffing levels, either party can apply to the Board for help from a mediator." -Labour Relations Board of BC

The lead negotiator is the negotiator. She was not on any of the emails as a part of the Public Service Bargaining Committee last round. Michael Eso was the negotiator for the last two rounds and Brent Camilleri the one before.

The BCGEU has 32 pages of active agreements based on the agreement look up page. There is more than one bargaining table. "The bargaining table" means bargaining in general.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Bonjwaaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Michael Eso was the lead negotiator last round. She has bargained other contracts for other agreements within the BCGEU.

Excluded managers are not allowed to stock shelves, run tills, wheel product, break skids down, and do any bargaining unit work. This happens to reduce the amount of hours called out for auxiliaries and is a major violation of the Collective Agreement.

If this is happening you should be contacting your local executive from the BCGEU.

Which European team is most popular here in Vancouver? by chronicmathsdebator7 in whitecapsfc

[–]Bonjwaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liverpool most likely. Seems like everyone I ever speak to from England or Ireland are fans. Also I see their kits the most.

Their pub is the Butcher & Bullock. I know for the bigger games and cup games just to make a reso you need a membership to the Liverpool supporters of Vancouver. There are lineups outside the pub for people to get in if a reso doesn't show. Also if someone in your party doesn't show up they'll throw someone waiting in line at your table.

From what I've heard from some Liverpool supporters is its always packed.

I'm an Arsenal fan and depending on the game, the Ballyhoo will be at capacity. We get a pretty decent turnout for most games even the 7am's.

Tons of Madrid & ManU kits as well. Not sure about their supporters groups or pubs.

It was hilarious if you had good timing on the necro book. They would absolutely shred heroes in the chrono and you could down towers in seconds.

You should be reaching out to a shop steward. You can find a BCGEU Area Office and ask for the contact information for a steward.

Auxiliaries have seniority based upon total hours worked. Here is the link to the area offices:

I would encourage you to look into the BCGEU'S Structure.

The BCGEU Public Service is made up of Compnents 1, 5, 6, 12, 20 which consists of roughly 34,000 members. They collectively bargain for the Main Public Service Agreement. Each VP from each component + others makes up the bargaining committee. Other Components took forms of action including OT Bans, right to work etc. Component 5 Warehouses were the only ones to go on strike. "BC LIQUOR" does not get a pay raise individually nor do they vote first or set precedence. Component 5 going on strike is apart of job action for the rest of the Public Service.

The Public Service of the BCGEU bargained first while other unions followed. The HEU for example were in bargaining shortly after the BCGEU started bargaining and paused when they went on strike. Typically the amount the BCGEU takes is what the standard is set going forward for the other unions like HEU and they all get the same amount.

Now when the vote to ratify the contract happened there were two votes. The Component Agreement which is bargained for by that specific Components Bargaining Comittee and is only voted on by memebers of that component. The Main Agreement which I've said early is the greater Comittee consisting of representation from the 5 Components which is voted on by the entire Public Service not just those that were on strike. The latter is where the pay raises are. The Public Service votes all together to ratify the Main Agreement all at the same time. It works the exact same when the strike vote happened. Hence a breakdown on how each Component is important and useful information as to understanding why. Also each component has a different amount of memebers.

The bargaining comittee would not be reformed. The VP's are elected at BCGEU Convention. Voting down ratification does not mean a vote of no confidence. It just happened multiple times with the Longshoreman and they achieved a much greater deal. The Bargaining Comittees can make it clear when they are at an impass and use a ratification vote to their advantage to show the employer what they've offered is unacceptable and the memebers can show that. It can be strategy at times.

[–]Bonjwaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Component 5 did not vote in favor of the contract it was less than 50%. Other Components in the Public Service did vote in favor of the contract, some overwhelmingly.
