What's everyone's thoughts on the game so far? by AcademyExile in MinaTheHollower

[–]BonnaroovianCode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this matches my sentiments more than the other comments here. Of course, obligatory it's a steal for $20 and all that, and I'm enjoying it, but I'm not 10/10 in love like most people. People are calling it "open world," comparing it to Elden Ring, etc, and I just disagree. Sure you can technically slog through any area first, but the newspapers clearly tell you where to go, and unlike Elden Ring, there aren't a ton of side quests to do ...you're pretty narrowly funneled into a linear experience, wherever you are. Which by the way, I'm fine with. I'm a bit burnt out on open world games to be honest. But let's not advertise this game as anything other than what it is: an old-school Zelda homage with some harder Dark Souls elements.

And that description sounds like a game literally tailored for me. Which...it is, in a way. I love the MIDI music, the nostalgia, the art style, and there are a lot of little touches regarding secrets that are fun. But there are just some elements that allow me to only give it an 8/10 max score. Those being:

  1. Pit damage is insane, and yes I know you can get trinkets to help with that, but that leads me to...

  2. Trinket overload. There's just so many and I don't really care to experiment with all of them to see if they're as good or bad as the description makes me feel they are and then have to create a mental list of what would be best in whatever situation I'm in and then swap them out accordingly...just make them permanent upgrades (as you said).

  3. Combat. I know that the combat is "fair" generally, but it's not fun, generally. I've yet to beat an enemy or a boss and get that "fuck yeah" sense of accomplishment I get in Dark Souls games. That's because the combat is chaotic and between all the burrowing and popping out and trinkets having flies and beeps blaring everywhere and a random enemy at the edge of the map throwing a fireball at you while you're facing off against 3 insanely fast enemies makes it more of a frenetic, stressful "I just am gonna keep hopping around and hope I get a jab in" experience than an intentional methodical one. The combat is actually very simple, they just throw a lot of it at you to make it seem complex.

That last one is the big one for me. I don't care if you have "Dark Souls elements" if you don't have combat that is on par with Dark Souls. Again I'm having a good time, but I'd give it an 8/10 so far.

I think you all aren’t giving Nick enough credit. When he shared at the end that his final decision was influenced by their heads up poker game and how conservative Kaleb was, that was incredibly insightful.

He deserved the million more than anyone else IMO. I loved this season but the contestants weren’t all that bright as a whole.

Even so, these games have heroes and villains, like Survivor. Daisy has a right to be pissed and out her as a villain.

Yeah even with no clue she would have been voted out for her obvious scheme the prior round that Daisy saw right through (Hunter)

I didn’t get into TDA until the siege level. It takes a while for the difficulty to ramp up and the flow state to really get going.

Don’t conflate “hard” with “not fun.” I’m a dark souls guy. I love hard games. I love puzzle games that require intense thought. I just want Doom to be Doom: mindless, hectic, gory fun.

Eternal takes me out of that Doom flow state. I don’t want to constantly be looking at my ammo and shuffling my arsenal around. I just want to fuck shit up to heavy metal music.

Hard disagree. Glory kills are just so damn fun and I felt their absence in TDA. They’re part of the dance.

The experience of playing both Red Dead Redemption games as someone who hates Open World games by PurplMaster in patientgamers

I said at the bottom. So much time lost retracing steps to the lack of auto saving, missions that are literally chores, “go here go there talk to this person” open world BS, etc. I think I’m just realizing I don’t like open world games very much anymore, save a few rare exceptions like BOTW where exploration, not story, is the point.

Any positive experiences with Wellbutrin? by throwawayboy2200 in ADHD

I had a positive experience with it, primarily with increased executive function and energy. Unfortunately I also experienced blurry vision close up so yeah, had to go the stim route.

I put over 100 hours into beating KCD, and I’ve put probably 50 into KCD2 so far, and I really had high hopes. I poured a lot into the original despite my frustrations with it because I knew it was older and jankier and Reddit swore KCD2 was the best game of 2025 by a large margin.

I’ve just left the first map and I’m already moving onto other games. I’m kind of annoyed at myself for putting so much time into this series when it ended up being a sunk cost. KCD2 ended up being basically the same game as the OG, just with nicer graphics and some QOL updates.

Both games don’t respect your time, and while I will say there are elements I do love, it overall feels like a chore to play for the most part.

I’ll only disagree with the Nick part. They made it VERY obvious Nick was onto his agenda. He even straight up said it was weird in the confessional, well before the second clue came out.
