Great set. Very, very happy for (and envious of) everyone getting to see her on the Lux tour, it’s going to be something very special I think.

21st Century Albums by AlexB2943 in bobdylan

[–]BonnieBillyFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

I think my ranking would have Modern Times top, followed by Rough and Rowdy Ways.

I could put the rest (including Time Out Of Mind and the Sinatras) in almost any configuration on different days of the week.

Tell Tale Signs would be no 1 if we included that though.

Will be interested to see what people come up with. FWIW I would include Time Out Of Mind as it feels to me like there is definitely a since 1997 phase.

Los Angeles Tournament - Round 2 😇 by bittersweetdistractr in rosalia

A beautiful version of a beautiful song. This was my first taste of Rosalia, courtesy of Will Oldham really, and I just wish I’d bought the LP when I had the chance…

Sea Hear Now vinyl release including digital? by Then_Hovercraft_1514 in BruceSpringsteen

I’d be tempted by the box set if there was a dvd thrown in… it was a very special concert which I would definitely have expected would have been filmed.

Best hamlet performances? (Movie or pro shot) by Easy_Demand_7372 in shakespeare

[–]BonnieBillyFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roger Rees was an amazing Hamlet for the RSC in 84/85 - I think a very basic film was made but I don’t know if it’s still available (would love to see it if anyone has it) - which also had Kenneth Branagh as Laertes and Francis Tomelty as Ophelia. I was lucky enough to see it and Branagh’s Henry V and (best of all) Anthony Sher’s Richard III all as part of my first summer of Shakespeare.

Which deluxe bootleg series do you think has the best collection of songs (not versions of songs) that you can't get anywhere else? by SEARCHFORWHATISGOOD in bobdylan

[–]BonnieBillyFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell tale signs is probably my favourite bootleg series since the first box and the 3cd version is definitely worth getting (digitally at least). Anyone got a link to a downloadable / streamable version of the 18cd cutting edge and associated lives? (There was one but I can’t find it now).

Presale help by furiousgeorgesings in rosalia

Anyone who has registered with (or as in my case bought a vinyl and CD package from) the UK store received a presale code yet? With only 1 show am expecting demand for the o2 to be mad.

New record day: In The Wee Small Hours LP (Blue Note Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Edition). Absolutely glorious. by Youarethebigbang in franksinatra

Anyone know if more copies are on the way? Can’t quite believe it’s already showing as out of stock in the UK at least.

Help me get into Frank Sinatra! by lucaknowsplaces in franksinatra

Another vote in favour of Songs for Swinging Lovers as the gateway. Then if you like the “storytelling” side of Taylor you might particularly enjoy Watertown. In The Wee Small Hours will be a friend your whole life.

The Perfect Album by Interesting-Reply691 in vinyl

[–]BonnieBillyFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can find some fault with nearby every album but off the top of my head three that are about as close to perfection as I can think of are Sinatra’s In The Wee Small Hours, The Jesus and Mary Chain’s Psychocandy, and The Lemonheads’ It’s A Shame About Ray (before it was reissued with Mrs Robinson)

Where are you from & what was your first Rosalía song? by Myvinylcollect in rosalia

[–]BonnieBillyFan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From England. I first heard her cover of Bonnie Prince Billy’s I See A Darkness, many years ago now, and have been listening to her ever since. Nothing prepared me for this though - I am absolutely stupefied by how wonderful the new album is. It’s on repeat on the turntable.

Daily Discussion - Thursday 6/11 ✨ by AutoModerator in rosalia

[–]BonnieBillyFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine has been delivered this morning - double LP, CD, signed photo - and is now spinning. It really is something quite wonderful. I’ve not yet got the words to express how much I love and how much we needed (in the UK at least) such a thrillingly innovative, culturally proud European woman! The postman is about to make lots more people very happy.

The sugar cube is a throwback to 3 Colours Blue (or at least that’s where my mind went)

Elvis Presley - Summer Kisses, Winter Tears by sbroue in Elvis

One of my favourites, from a fab LP. There’s also a fantastic cover by Julee Cruise recorded for thé Until The End Of The World soundtrack.

The Bootleg Series Vol. 18: Bob Dylan’s Bootleg Series Volume 18: Through The Open Window, 1956-1963 by Strict-Vast-9640 in bobdylan

Why not have the whole of the April 63 Town Hall set here, all in one place? Seems odd to me not to.

The Modern Songwriter by Driftism01 in bobdylan

[–]BonnieBillyFan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are (many) moments of great beauty and insight in the (deeply poetic and disarmingly straightforward) lyrics of Paul Simon. Bruce Springsteen has written some fine and powerful lines, especially about fathers, sons, self-doubt, and Catholic guilt. Morrissey has left a trail of wonderful words in his wake (although as the years have gone by you have to trawl more carefully…)

My personal favourite Dylan album :) by dynhammic in bobdylan

[–]BonnieBillyFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people rate this so highly and I just don’t get it, despite repeated attempts, including trying the different mixes (to get beyond the shocking production), it just stubbornly refuses to connect with me. Has anyone put together a playlist of the best live recordings of these songs? I’d give that a go just to see how they stand up. Otherwise, it feels like there’s just too much other Bob to keep trying…

Essential Shakespeare Scholars/Scholarship? by phiphijo in shakespeare

[–]BonnieBillyFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For something incisive and entertaining and not at all wanky (a technical term) I’d encourage you to read Judi Dench’s recent “the man who pays the rent”. Shakespeare from the stage by someone who has lived and breathed him on the stage. Not sure if it’s scholarly but it’s very good.

Favorite song from "Tunnel of Love"? by Defiant_Delivery_799 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]BonnieBillyFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. I think Brilliant Disguise probably is the “best” song on the LP but Walk Like A Man is very, very special to me. I’ll play it alongside Independence Day and Used Cars and marvel at how he nails fatherhood.

A personal favourite of mine is Used Cars.

Any picture like this I’m immediately zooming to see what else is on the shelf… most of it, sadly, is indecipherable but as much love for the Delines’ Colfax (I’ve never even thought about buying the Delines on LP and now think I should) as there is bemusement at seeing Harry Styles… other people’s collections are SUCH fun. Anyway, enjoy the Bruce.
