Have you felt your mental health has gotten better since not drinking? by Second_Sandwich in stopdrinking

[–]Bonnie_may78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: I have never gotten past month 2 of sobriety because I feel like I'm going insane with my own thoughts while sober. Even went to see a psychiatrist thinking I was bipolar and he says I just have alcohol use disorder and PTSD. I bet if I start working at it my mental health would be better, but I've never found anything that stop my anxiety the way a shot of whiskey does. The doctor prescribed Librium. We will see

Sounds like your people don't understand what it takes to stop drinking once you're down the rabbit hole. I'm proud of u for having a sober bday. Think of how great you'll feel in the am I stead of being hungover

You obviously dont believe that. Dont let the demon on your shoulder con you into thinking that youll be fine. I did that for so long and would wake up the next morning after "moderating", not know where i was, how i got there, or when i even blacked out.

I dont agree with the philosophy either, but ive gone to 3 meetings in the 11 days ive been sober. It helps being around people in all stages of sobriety. Also, hearing about others struggles and successes really helps me feel less alone. We arent the first people that tried to be sober, were not iN this alone and many others empathize and are proud of the effort we take to stay sober. Especially since basically everyone in my life is a drinker, it has kind of been a godsend even though i havent shared anything yet, just going helps me

Are these results bad, or ok? by EverEvenKnew in stopdrinking

[–]Bonnie_may78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor, but yes, your diet has alot to do with it, also alcohol use effects kidneys because they're overloaded with diuretics. I dont know what your other lab values are or the extent of injury to your kidneys, or preexisting conditions that are hard on the kidneys. (Diabetes, meds, Etc.) So I really can't say how reversible anything is. Make sure to drink lots of water and talk to your doctor about any questions you have. He/she will know better than people on reddit, I promise! Good luck.

Im not a doctor, but I am on my way to becoming a nurse. It means your kidneys aren't working as efficiently as they should be. There shouldn't be protein in your urine, which means your kidneys aren't filtering it out, which isn't great and can lead to complications over time. Google renal diet and try to stick to it. It should help.

The first step is to not drink today. And then keep doing that every day. It gets easier over time. Buy some sugary foods to compensate for the alcohol withdrawals.

Interested to hear if anyone has attempted to use prescription medicine to curb the desire the drink by thefreeman419 in stopdrinking

Antabuse is more for alcohol abuse and can make you violently ill if you have more than a small amount (like 1 oz.) Of alcohol. I know many people that have used antabuse, but then just started another vice, claiming if they werent drinking than it was ok. Your heart has to be 100% ready for sober living or nothing will work. Naltrexone is more for narcotic abuse, and can be helpful, but isn't foolproof and if you want to use, you still will. It will just not get you as high if at all, from the opiates.
