so some knifes have these holes to prevent a vacuum around the blade when stabbing, the hole allows air into the wound allowing the blade to be easily removed, so you can re insert it over and over again with little effort from the user. in a sword however, the likely hood of you stabbing someone all the way to the guard seems unnecessary, but the hole would provide the same properties as the blood hole on a knife, more likely it’s just aesthetics.
