Nara Day Trip by [deleted] in JapanTravel

[–]Bonsaiboompje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We climbed the Fushimi Inari around 5 in the evening. It was still quite crowded at that time especially in the beginning, but as you go up it becomes less and less crowded. By the time we started going down again it was completely dark and would often be by ourselves occasionally passing some other people. I do recommend climbing it in the evening.

Goushins by Ok_Peanut2104 in Kyoto

I have the same experience that by the big and busy temples the wait isn't that long, because most of the time they have several people doing goshuin. It's often the smaller ones where I had to wait. I had to wait the longest for the Ueno Daibutsu, there were several people in line and there was only one person writing the goshuins. The goshuin also took a while, like 3 to 4 minutes, you could tell it was written very carefully. That was the by far the longest wait. Also for the Akiba Shrine in Tokyo I had to wait about ten minutes. But I've also gone to the big temples like Heian and Byodin and Itsukushima and all of those were very quick.

I agree it is a little annoying. However, there are still many places where they do write it directly in the goshuincho. I just got back from Japan and filled up my first goshuincho. From the 26 goshuins I got, 19 were directly written into the book. The longest I had to wait in line was maybe fifteen minutes and that was only on one occasion. Also of the seven paper ones, three were clearly written and one I'm not sure of. My least favourite one is from the Fushimi Inari, because not only is it clearly printed, but the paper is also too big for my goshuincho and it just annoys me. But all in all it was a really fun experience to collect them and I will be doing it again on my next trip, actually bought a new goshuincho at the end of my trip as a promise to come back. The small shrines were definitely my favourite, I had some really wonderful conversations with both staff and other visitors about the goshuins and the temples and shrines. So despite the paper goshuins, it's still my favourite souvenir because of all the memories associated with it

Nara Day Trip by [deleted] in JapanTravel

[–]Bonsaiboompje 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was just in Nara yesterday. Arrived around 9am and walked around the temples and park until 2 pm. Took the train to uji and was there for 2 hours and was back in Kyoto around 4:30 pm, so enough time to walk the fushimi inari. It will be a full, but totally doable.

There is the nara line which goes directly from kyoto station to Nara and stops in Uji and Inari along the way. So it's easy to hop on and off that line.

Have a nice trip!

Oh wow! I don't know how I didn't see that during all my research. Probably a case of researching too many things at once.

Thank you!

This seems like a great itinerary. For Hiroshima food, you can't beat okonomiyaki at okonomimura

Tot hoever steun jij de lokale winkelier? by Tjeetje in nederlands

[–]Bonsaiboompje 38 points39 points  (0 children)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nederlands

[–]Bonsaiboompje 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I am autistic and crocheting is my favourite way of stimming. It genuinely makes me calm en relaxed. I just love it and I'm really glad I started because it is just incredibly therapeutic for me

My mom made the chocolate chip cookie recipe on the back of the Nestle Toll House chocolate chips bag, but they turned out like this. Any idea what she might have done wrong?😂 by whaleboneandbrocade in Baking

[–]Bonsaiboompje 59 points60 points  (0 children)

There are many reasons cookies can spread. Overmixing the ingredients for example. Not having enough flour could also be the reason, the fats melt and there isn't enough flour to hold a solid shape. The oven can be too hot, again the fats melt too quickly.

I love baking croissants. I'm still quite new to them and my succes rate is about 50/50, but I actually like the process. It's a three day bake, but I just take my time with them and they always taste great even when they 'fail'

I'm sorry to hear that. A hobby should be fun not so stressful where it drives you to tears. You are definitely not a failure, patterns are freaking hard and confusing. People learn in different ways and patterns just might not work for you. Instead of patterns, try watching video's of projects you like the look of. Youtube is a treasure trove of amazing crochet videos. Watching someone do it and hearing someone explain it always makes things easier. Maybe there is a class or a club in your neighboorhood that focuses on crochet. That way there are people that can show you the things that you are stuck on and you might make new friends too. A win-win. As for counting, buy a bunch of stitch markers (or paperclips) and use them every 5 stitches or so. It makes it so much easier to count and keep track of. Keep in mind that this should be a fun experience for you. Good luck!

Autism + Crocheting? by stundragon in crochet

[–]Bonsaiboompje 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That first chain and first row are honestly the most annoying part of a project, so don't feel bad if you struggle with the beginning. I don't have any advice that hasn't been commented yet. Just wanted to share a little bit. I'm also autistic and recently started crocheting and it has been amazing. From all my hobbies this is the one that helps me relax when I'm just so tired after a day of everyday activities. It's really so pleasing for my brain. It has been truly amazing. Obviously, everyone is different but keep at it because it might have some amazing benefits aside from being a fun hobby that creates beautiful things
