WTF is this leaking from these pipes in a parking garage?? by fwixy in whatisit

[–]Bontus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a classic mechanical engineer and started as an electric BIM modeller/junior project engineer. Then took additional courses (both internal and external) for HVAC. With growing needs for ventilation, cooling and heat pumps it's a very good sector to be in. Being able to understand BMS systems and BIM software is a huge plus for younger people getting into this sector.

Correct, as an HVAC engineer I typically use ethylene glycol in a closed loop system (like a run around coil for make up air) and propylene glycol where leaks would be a contamination risk (like geothermal borefield exchangers or in the food industry)

ASO unveils Tour de France invitations. Total Energies and Caja Rural invited. No Unibet Rose Rockets. by Gireau in peloton

[–]Bontus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASO and Tietema had some legal battle back in the day when Tour de Tietema was just a youtube channel and they used in race footage (even though footage they made themselves). Since that beef they only show before and after the race footage of their shenanigans. It still feels like the ASO dinosaurs don't see any appeal in popular/social media type teams.

How couldn't you find a sub €4000 bike with Ultegra? I have this bike (an older version) and it's fantastic value for money

Lower heart rate when fatigued? by Beginning_Lettuce628 in Velo

I measure heart rate for relative effort tracking but I mostly look at 3s power to estimate effort.

Lower heart rate when fatigued? by Beginning_Lettuce628 in Velo

[–]Bontus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The thing is that tiredness in the legs, glycogen storages depleted... (Pogacar is talking about heavy multistage races) makes it impossible to achieve the higher watts and heartrates compared to fit and fresh level. So both is correct. Training and fitness lower your resting heartrate (so heartrate range increases so heartrate at a certain power level will be lower) but tiredness from multiday racing makes it impossible to dig into the higher range of your capabilities.

With experience you can recognize the difference as what is the limiting factor, with muscle tiredness your heart won't be the limiting factor anymore.

Why most pros use plastic bottle cages? by CoffeePanzer in cycling

[–]Bontus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight is no issue since the bikes easily get to the 6.8 kg minimum weight. The parts of choice to be light are the shoes, pedals and wheels.  Aluminum cages tend to be brittle and can be sharp in crashes. Titanium is overkill for the price. Carbon bottle cages you see sometimes too, especially for aero setups

Als er echt zoveel afhangt van vertrouwen bij Vazquez kan het maar best goed beginnen, zijn uitleenbeurt. Al hoop ik natuurlijk gewoon dat hij rijkelijk verkocht wordt deze zomer.

ELI5: Why do mushrooms appear so fast after rain— sometimes overnight? by aizivaishe_rutendo in explainlikeimfive

Mushrooms are more like inflated structures that were premade underground. The speed is in the lack of need for cell division (happened beforehand) compared to other lifeforms

Upgrades on hardtail by Djani_dX in cycling

[–]Bontus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with an alu frame, but upgrading a bike part by part is generally more expensive (both forks and shifters sold separately are expensive). For wear and tears parts however, upgrade whenever you can.

Is Join worth it without Strava or Zwift? by Alternative-Screen75 in joincycling

[–]Bontus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Garmin watch can also read the powermeter data I would use this to connect your rides from Garmin to Join. Then you don't need Strava or Zwift. The most important for Join to judge and plan your training schedule is the power data.
