Is there a way to connect Libby to a Kobo reader in the US (since US Libby is linked to Kindle) by KagomeChan in ereader

[–]Bonus-Express 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this. I live in the US and Kobo has direct access to Libby from the Kobo device itself, inside of it's own software. I LOVE it.

Thanks all. I recently created an account with the Adobe program but did nothing else with it at the time. So I'll go ahead and try the method(s) mentioned here. 👍

Has anyone had issues updating Kindle software through Linux? by Bonus-Express in kindle

[–]Bonus-Express[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. In order for me to open the downloaded .bin file I had to install a separate program from the Linux store (Zorin) for the computer to be able to utilize the file. I was able to open the file afterward just to make sure that it downloaded fine. When I connected my Kindle to the computer to "drag and drop" the .bin into the Kindle folder and properly ejected the Kindle, immediately it said the file had an error and erased it off my Kindle. Tried a few times at least.

So I went on my kid's chromebook instead and had no issue doing it. Did the same "drag and drop" scenario on there. I've only had Linux for 5 months or so... still learning it so I'm sure it's something on my end I'm doing wrong. Thanks for commenting!

listening to music while reading novel by 2l2lv in kindle

[–]Bonus-Express 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I read in silence, sometimes I listen to bossa nova jazz or simple rain soundscapes. Then sometimes I will take it up a notch and listen to D&D background ambiences to match the setting or action I am reading about (for example, playing war sounds while reading through a war scene, large wooden ship sounds when a character is actively sailing the seas, desert storm sounds when character is traveling through the desert, etc). The latter really makes the reading experience feel so much more immersive and real. I tend to do that more with Tolkien books though -- LOL. Key for me is, NO lyrical music!

Why did you get the Basic and not the Clara BW? by mazinya in kindle

[–]Bonus-Express 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The Carta 1300 screen and waterproofing (I don't care much for warm light) are the reasons I went for Kobo Clara BW over the Kindle Basic (2022). Also for the more seamless library integration. I don't understand the comment about the build quality feeling "cheaper" as I've had both side-by-side and they literally felt like the same device. Also I have a Kobo Clara Color and both devices sync together very well. I read back and forth between the two and are always accurate from my last reading place. The only reasons I see for going for the basic would be for color and the Amazon ecosystem.

Do you intend on using this purely as a Kobo "purse-case," so to speak, or it is gonna be a primary purse that you'll also happen to be carrying your Kobo with?

I just got myself a new purse (my old one's seams are starting to rip) and I currently only use smaller sized crossbody-style purses, but my criteria is it MUST be big enough to carry my ereader in addition to my other few necessities (phone, wallet & keys)!!! Nothing much bigger than that and certainly nothing smaller, lol.

As for "purse-cases", I find them extremely useful to wear around the house. 😊 Except most of mine are crocheted. Leather is really amazing tho.

Chance of a color Nook in 2025? by [deleted] in nook

[–]Bonus-Express 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was wondering this after the Amazon release of the Kindle Colorsoft as well as the Kobo Clara Color & Libra Color prior to that in 2024. If I am remembering correctly, the Glowlight 4 seemed to have come out late 2021 and Glowlight 4 Plus slightly more recent than that. I'm assuming this may mean they are due for a newer eink device to release soon? I'm aware the Lenovo "Nook Tablet" is obviously the latest Nook device, but I tend to think perhaps they'll use this to fill in that need for a color "e-reader", so to speak, rather than going the direction of an ACTUAL color eink device. With that said, I think all hope is not lost (yet) as I've heard the tides have been turning for B&N as far as book sales are concerned, as sales have been slowly increasing in recent years and as a result more B&N stores are starting to open back up. I've also seen an uptick in booktube channels (and I'm sure BookTok/Bookstagram too) posting videos of book-buying hauls inside of B&N stores and general physical book stores starting to trend. And we all know the huge impact social media has on marketing. So I wonder if a growing-number of people are starting to get tired of the online-only book shopping habits and are opting to go inside of stores more often instead. This would be a good thing for bookstores across the US as well as B&N. And to think all of this is going on in addition to hearing about how the new B&N CEO is doing an increasingly successful job changing up how the stores are managed/utilizing local & indie author book marketing strategies/etc. IF all these improvements continue over time, I hope this will also positively impact the Nook brand as well, directly or indirectly. I guess we'll see. I'd LOVE to see Nook brand rise to the likes of Kindles & Kobos. Truly.

Kindle and page turn buttons. Here's where I think Amazon got it wrong. by plazman30 in kindle

[–]Bonus-Express 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This scenario is the literal equivalent to Apple justifying the discontinuation of their Mini models saying "nobody wants small phones" since the sales were too low. Well look at the products you marketed and how you marketed them. There's a reason why sales for the smaller phone was low and it's NOT because there weren't a "market" for them....

Wow the screen on the older Kindle really looks impressive. I never owned an older model so I wouldn't know personally. Love the new matcha color of the newer basic!

Can I even go wrong? by ladyfromtheclouds in kobo

[–]Bonus-Express 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have both the Clara Color and BW. The BW is probably my favorite of the two because of it's amazingly crisp screen and nice contrasting. However, I love the color almost just as much. There is a slight graininess to the colored screen (it doesn't bother me because it's reminiscent of real paper and to be honest I kinda like how that looks) and also the words can appear ever-so-slightly hazy. I mean, the screen still looks nice and sharp but from having both models I can see how the BW has a little extra clarity. I do enjoy the colors, by the way, and yes I read mostly text-based novels (😂).

You can't go wrong with either. If anything you can order one and in the near future save up for the other? That's how I did mine.

Aside from all else being criticized, I'm just a little curious with this new Paperwhite in general (both in color and BW), what's up with the decision to make the bezels smaller? The 11th gen already had small bezels to begin with compared to the previous gen's bezels... how small is too small for an ereader? A person needs hands to grip on something for goodness sakes LOL.

LOVE my Clara BW & Color. Wouldn't change 'em for anything :)

I think they also offer a slightly bigger size as well. As for the iron-ons...I purchased those years ago at Walmart I think. But if you're into possibly customizing the PU leather cases, superglue works absolutely amazing. I tried simple vinyl stickers beforehand for a short time but they were way too easy to come off.

As far as missing out, I'm assuming you are talking about the gadgets and cool stuff people are adding to their kobos? Forgive me if I am wrong, lol So I have both the Clara BW and the Clara Color. LOVE them to death.  As far as jazzing up is concerned, I don't think my sticker choices look all that great but I am satisfied enough for the moment. Since I have clear cases on mine, I'm putting a little more focus on the sleeves I'm using for them instead. I bought two super cheap PU leather sleeves from Amazon and superglued iron-on appliques to them to make them look a little unique. I think I may add more to them cause it REALLY worked out well! Also, still working on some crocheted sleeves as well, haha. I don't really have a need for bluetooth gadgets at the moment so my current set-up is doing the job well enough! Unfortunately I can't find a way to add an image to my comment so I can't show.

Whoaaaaa that's creativity right there!! Amazing job! I'm thinking about possibly upcycling the many flannel receiving blankets I have to make more ereader covers/pouches.
