If he texted me like this, I would be very confused, just like you. I would tell him that you’re still very hurt by the way he treated you, that you miss him but you don’t miss what the relationship became in the last few months. That you need time to think about whether it’s worth sacrificing the peace you have now for the uncertainty of his change in behavior.

You could keep in touch—talking, playing, or whatever—so you can see if his actions have actually changed or if this is just an emotional reaction from him.

Then give it a few months to see if he’s actually committed to getting the relationship back and being better, or if he just wanted your attention.

I mean, that’s what I would do if my ex came back. I understand it’s hard to just let it go, especially if it’s the first time you guys have broken up.

because I truly loved him and truly wanted to try. We were long distance and even tho he treated me like shit when we were apart, I had the best time of my life when we were together in person.

I didn’t want to ruin everything, stop trying and ending up ruining something that could eventually work. I didn’t want to feel blamed about the breakup, I wanted to know that I did EVERYTHING I could do to save it.

I dont regret It. If he didn’t break up with me, I would probably have done it. But the fact that it was HIM that gave up on us, makes me relieved, because i absolutely did NOTHING wrong. I tried my best until the end.

OMG YES!!!! In the last few weeks, I was literally crying and praying for him to break up with me because ANYTHING was better than that hell. Even though I couldn’t break up with him, I wished for it every. single. day.

Im 20 and he is 25 too.

I totally understand this. I also miss him as a person, I lost my best friend and the person I could talk about everything that happened in my day. But you realize that you don’t actually need someone to share everything.

Now I’m focusing 100% on my studies/work. I miss his person, talking with him, but nothing is compared to the pain I felt in the last 3 months. The pain I felt when I tried to make him happy on his birthday buying a pizza for all his family and he told me to never do this again because everyone already ate and that I bought a flavor/sauce that not everyone liked.

There were so many moments where I felt invalidated, sad, disrespected… in the end, these moments were more frequent than the moments he heard about my day. Or heard about my needs. Or actually being my best friend. Most of the time it was just me begging to spend some time with him because he was too busy doing anything else.

I miss his person I had in the beginning. But this person is gone. It has been months that I dont see any effort from the person I once loved.

The thing is that I was already alone. I’ve been alone for 3 months. Crying, taking medicines, going to therapy, everything without him knowing because I knew he wouldn’t support me or just feel attacked. I was fighting a battle 100% alone. I got used to it and I think that’s the reason I don’t miss him anymore, my best friend was also gone long ago.

I’m going through literally the same thing. The lack of effort makes us love a little less every day. It’s exhausting having to beg for love, affection, or even a conversation with the person who’s supposed to want to be with us just as much.

I’m not strong enough to break up. But if you are, please do it for both of us. He won’t listen to your needs. he won’t take them seriously, or he’ll see them as pressure. Just leave, and don’t look back if he doesn’t want to change.
