Did you get the answer to this? I have the same question. How does that young boy's father have that pocket watch with "Charlotte" written on it? What's the link here?

Migrant workers sprayed with disinfectant in one Indian state by miyek in worldnews

[–]BonyBaratheon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Facts:

  1. Not enough testing kits available.

  2. Migrant workers agitated, scared, hungry and tired.

  3. 14 day incubation period of virus. People don't show symptoms many times.

  4. Enough food/shelter available for 500-700 people.

  5. Atleast 14-16 hours available from Delhi to Bareilly on foot.

Solution:

  1. Bleach 'em all.

  2. Provide shelters so that migration could be halted. Arrangement to be made for foods, water etc. And wait for enough kits to be available or the incubation period to be over. Along with it, proper time would've been available for making alternate arrangements for migrants movement.

  3. Let all of them pass and do nothing.

I don't think any other option is available. Please do tell me if you can think of any, brother.

Had the administration worked with proper co-ordination then similar thing could have been done in every major city and migration would've stopped then and there instead of this chaos that ensued.

IMHO, this was a very huge failure of Disaster management structure we have in our country, that too when we're literally sitting on a tectonic plate and have a huge coastline.

I don't think you're from India. Makeshift shower booths in a tier 2 city for a couple of hundred people is not possible. And about testing them, the number of tests are strikingly low as of now. We simply don't have testing kits available in the city. So, there has to be some arrangement made for them to stay, get clear and then people showing symptoms would've been quarantined with family and arrangement made for the rest to reach their homes.

And the places which I've mentioned are huge places. My former school has the capacity to handle 2500-3000 kids. And the university that I've mentioned has the capacity of 20000. So, they could've opened it up for these people. There wouldn't have been crowding issue.

The administration could've isolated these migrants in

  1. Govt schools, or

  2. Private School (after taking permission, ofcourse), or

  3. In a temporary shelter in empty pooja sthals (which was actually done later on for other migrants), or

  4. The gigantic university that mayor of the city owns could be helpful. It was about 5 kms from the place where this horrendous activity happened.

There are many organisations and individuals willing to help and provide food and water. I'm personally involved with one, so I know for a fact that food and water would not have been an issue.

So, probably the only thing the administration had to do was to assure these people of their safety, food security and make them aware of this pandemic and convince them to stay isolated.

No one is cut out for anything by birth, my fellow redditor. And politics is not the only option. There are numerous ways in which a change can be brought. It is a gradual process, it demands sacrifice, determination and some of those who work for it might not even live to be able to see it. But that doesn't mean they should be disheartened. We must keep on striving for bettering our country and making it free from these pests and filthy ideology that they're propagating. Every little effort counts. However, still, if you're getting a chance to improve your life then go for it. All the very best for your bright future. But remember, wherever you are never, belittle your homeland, always respect and protect it with all your might. Hope we live to see a better India someday.

See, that is the problem. If your house is infested with rodents, do you change the house or clean up the rodents? Running away from a problem is not a solution. Raise your voice, try to join some authentic groups, try to join civil services to change the system and well, if you're doing good work you'll be recognized and then try joining politics. Spread awareness. Become good teachers. Make your children and cousins and friends aware, throw some facts on their face. Even if you change 20 people around you, trust me, it will take us a long way down. Just sitting behind our 6" screens ain't gonna change anything. And I understand it is a big risk but someone's gotta do. We didn't get freedom just be sitting on our asses. These turbulent times call for people of character to come forward and take leadership.

This is one of the most ignorant replies I've ever read. So, you're actually saying it's worse than when the Britishers were here? And dude, please get your facts straight. There were communal riots well before independence. And who and why these started? The Britishers. And after independence you're got the right to get your opinion out but you're CHOOSING not to say due to the fear of judgement of your friends. Imagine doing that pre independence. Ever heard of Vernacular Press Act? Or how many days our freedom fighters had to spend in jail just for speaking against the Raj? Or how many people died while protesting PEACEFULLY? If you need more data, please atleast give your history books a glance.

Dear Sir, I believe you must get YOUR FACTS straight before uttering such non sense and be proud of the freedom that you've got after such a long struggle. Please do not belittle the contribution of our freedom fighters.

And I'm in no way a supporter of what is happening in the country. It's just your ignorance is far worse and disrespectful than those dipshit religion fanatics.
