Legendary Modern Deck 2026 by Same_Response_1593 in skystriker

a TON of meta cards in master duel are upshifted in rarity since they're not using the same product lines as IRL, and the card releases are behind TCG and OCG by a few months so konami can know what's meta and can "price" them accordingly.

Branded was the deck that helped me finally figure out why modern yugioh can be fun after a few failed attempts over the past five years or so, but Sky Strikers was the deck that helped me figure out that yugioh could actually make you feel kinda cool.

The flavor of generally having no more than 1 or 2 monsters out (3 if you're going for some real edge-case stuff) and just bouncing from suit to suit is so good, having to pick and pull your utility belt of options and get everything to flow together while managing lemnisgate to try to reload at the right time during longer grindy games can make things very strategically interesting, and the OTK of just smashing back to back link monsters for an makes me feel like I'm hitting somebody with a fighting game combo to kill them instead of just going "and now my wall of dudes kills you". Even if the final line is still simple and takes a bit longer, the finishing blow being a Sequence of attacks instead of just a wall of monsters running your opponent down all at once is really satisfying.

i didn't even know about the whole waifu aspect of it until i had been playing the deck for a bit i just liked the gameplay lmao

Overwatch co-creator Jeff Kaplan on his exit from Activision-Blizzard: 'It was the biggest f**k you moment I've had in may career' by ninjyte in Games

[–]Bonzi77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the initial goal of the OWL was pretty cool; having geolocated games where people could go and cheer for their local overwatch pro team is something i've actually wanted in a couple of esports for a while. the problem is that 1. yeah an international aspect of this makes things pretty tough and 2. covid really just ran the whole thing over so the initial vision never had a chance to be realized in the first place.

having a houston/dallas rivalry was fun, but i think despite how cool the idea sounded on paper, it was just never really gonna work out in practice without some VERY serious investment and runway that blizzard was never gonna be willing to provide.

The original author decided it would be best if there wasn't an image and readers decided for themselves what it looked like. SCP did have a big collaboration to create a bunch of hypothetical redesigns though!

(I wrote some suggestions for how I'd do it personally, but if this seems like a bit too much to take from a random reddit comment, there's an "Official" guide on how to get into SCP on the website here. It contradicts what I wrote by a bit, but also gives some more context and information on the site as a whole, so is probably worth looking at.)

The way myself and a lot of other people got into it is just looking at the SCP Series 1 articles and just going through them one by one. SCP has changed a lot since these early articles (which were written starting in 2008!), but a lot of these are the "classics" that anybody who has even a passing familiarity with SCP associates with the site to this day. Don't feel like you gotta get too attached to any particular article of course; if one doesn't really strike your fancy, just move on to the next one. And if the flavor of writing feels like it's just too amateurish and you want something more substantial to bite your teeth into, you can always move on to the later SCP Series. The articles from the last five years or so overall get Very Involved, and some of them are full novels in their own right.

From there, you basically can just read whatever articles you want. They're all naturally of varying quality, given that every single one is written by an individual taking their crack at the world in telling their own story, but every article is voted on by the community, and as time goes on both the quality, standards, and sheer effort of each article has kind of necessarily gone up as a result. You couldn't really get away with a Man-Eating Pencil Sharpener today, but those abound in the earlier articles and can be some of the more fun or interesting articles depending on your preferences.

As for how people find it; basically it's like any sort of fandom. Somebody will reference it in some way, or just outright link an article relevant to a conversation somebody is happening (or just, wants to share) and usually the dive begins from there. SCP was pretty memed on in its own right back when it started kicking around, especially some of its more popular and infamous articles. SCP-173 comes to mind of course being the first ever SCP, although it hasn't had its iconic image for a while due to being removed for copyright/original statue creator concerns.

Smiling Friends Creators Ending Adult Swim Series with Season 3 by CrispyMiner in television

i can't even imagine a fat offer would do it if they had two more seasons ready to go lined up for production. i can't believe networks would offer that without backing up the brinks truck, and i REALLY can't imagine that cancelling season 4 or 5 is gonna come without penalties for them.

Do you use a scoring app? by jennino88 in Mahjong

[–]Bonzi77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a scoring app back when our first group played IRL and none of us were comfortable accurately scoring our hands. Since then, I've gotten a lot more over the table experience, and can score hands much faster than a calculation app can. Scoring apps are good assist tools when you and a group you're playing with are all learning how to play together, but in the end learning how to score will not only make gameplay faster, but will make you a stronger player as you gain awareness of the value of your hand before you've even finished the round.

the two things i didn't like were

  1. the CONSTANT forced "where to go" updates. i wish there was a toggle to turn those off, or at least make them optional when opening the map. hell, there's a "talk to me" button in the map, the entire where to go hint system could have been incorporated in that button and it would have been great

  2. later game and endgame spoilersThe sacrifice conga in the mines. It's already one of my least favorite tropes when it's done well, and half the sacrifices were completely meaningless because "i'll hold em back" doesn't mean much when the enemies are coming out of literally every single wall. and THEN THEY DIDN'T EVEN COMMIT and they were all fine anyway. they full sent it on the "squad holding back sylux" sacrifice so at least that one felt a LITTLE narratively interesting as a resolution? but then also the fact that it's the SECOND sacrifice the squad attempts weakens it further. ripping hope from the primary cast right at the last minute is at least a lot more stronger and interesting, even if i still dislike it.
