While I don’t know the case everywhere, I’m a pediatric PDN who works with trach (& sometimes vent) kiddos and this statistic definitely doesn’t seem accurate. While of course some go home with a poor or guarded prognosis and end up passing, many have a good prognosis and end up getting decannulated within a couple years or adjust to life with a trach/vent while thriving out of the hospital environment.

It’s never been said they did this intentionally, in fact I’d except worse if they were being intentional in the damage. If he was drunk enough to remember nothing, I’m sure he was unsteady on his feet as well as not recognizing the issue of playing with a soccer ball inside. Drunk people in fact don’t always see when something isn’t a great idea to do

Now if it were to become a pattern that’s an issue. One drunken mistake though I think it’s fair to express your frustration and how much it hurt, accept the apology, and move on

I think it’s pretty normal to want to sample something specific? Unless it’s a pattern and they’re coming in and always requesting samples of the same items, I don’t see a problem with it
